I have an iPhone, iPad Mini and an Apple TV series 3. Several people have said that you can't use the home kit features unless you have an Apple TV series 4. This is incorrect. You can use the away mode and you can lock and unlock your door over the internet. However, occasionally the Apple TV doesn't come out of sleep mode to lock or unlock the door and you have to try again later. You can not program the door to unlock or lock at specific times with the series 3 Apple TV you need a series 4. The app is easy to use and if you setup the home kit you can have Siri unlock your door. The away mode only works if you don't close the August app, leave it open in the back ground. I haven't used the Geo Fence yet.The auto lock is stupid. In this mode the door locks after a specified time being unlocked. if you use this don't go outside without your phone. I watched a youtube install video which made the install very easy.I have had this product for a bout a month and I am very pleased.

I installed the lock in 15 mins. The programming is easy. Works great with just the Bluetooth option; but I ended up getting the Connect and the keypad as well for all the conveniences they afforded. Also, it is a really clean looking product that looks nice and modern.

I have read all of the reviews on the August Smart Lock & other smart locks, finally decided on August. Straight forward install & connected with my iPhone & Apple TV, works great when home & away. This is a great addition to my smart home accessories!

Having the ability to unlock the door remote and then yell "come on in" is the first shock my visitors have when they arrive to my apartment for the first time. Is great to arrive with bags or a box in my hands and just move the door handle and push the door. I change the door handle to one without key (an indoor handle) because I'm not using keys anymore and i was afraid to press the lock inside and shut the door without having my keys since I'm only using my iPhone or Apple Watch to access my apartment. The only bad thing is that it not allow rechargeable batteries, but is a minor issue and I wont take out an star just for that. Is a 5 stars electric lock!

This Smart Lock is Great essay to install and easy to use .

First off, doesn’t seem to work with double cylinder locks. Secondly, if you have any trim such as along a window near the holes in the door where the lock is placed, this probably won’t work because you need to be able to swing the little flanges out on the side to attach the housing to the plate that holds it on the door. While I like the design, it’s huge! Also, it kinda feels plasticky on parts and the battery door was near impossible to get off on the one that I received. So much so that I’m pretty sure it broke from trying to turn the face with pressure applied just as the directions said to. I ended up wanting to throw this across the street. There are better smart locks out there, including the 3rd gen design. However, it still has the little pull flanges along the side so I had to basically take my door’s window completely apart which lead to breaking areas of it due to its age and will probably need a new door now. After changing the lock and going through all that, I ended up returning this. Might work fine on something like a front door with no window and have a quick easy install in that type of application, but for me it was nothing but a useless hassle that wasted a few hours and ruined our door. I wish I had had someone tell me or review this prior to purchase, so I hope this helps someone who might have a similar situation.

The door lock works very well but the app response is a little slow which can be improved.

I have a paper wieght. Do not toss your old lock you will need it. I have no faith that this is any type of long term solution. These work for about 2-3 weeks then start failing. They jamb up and it is a bad design. It does not work well with weatherstripping, you will need to hold your door while locking it, so the auto lock feature is pointless. The motor is to weak or the gears are stripping out causing it to just spin. I have already sent one back and spent a week with tech support asking me to send videos try this try that. They finally just sent me a new lock, but I had to mail mine in first and wait which took an additional week. I installed the new one and after 2 weeks it is doing the exact same thing. It is very annoying when it stops because you can not unlock it without taking it completely off. Wish I would of bought something else this has been a time and money suck. Please look elsewhere or wait till the technology is better. I also bought the wifi adapter so I'm out even more on this useless thing.You can see in the images that the lock is not moving after I turn it. Do not buy this!

This is one of those product categories that you don't fully appreciate until you own and use it. I installed the August Smart Lock, Smart Keypad and Doorbell Cam on the front door of my two-story home four weeks ago. I initially assumed that I would need to have someone do it for me, butfound that I was able to install and configure the Smart Lock to work with my iPhone and Apple Watch in just under 15 minutes, with the aid of well-considered August instructions, and just a Phillips screwdriver. The Doorbell Cam fit right over my existing analog doorbell wired location, and required only drilling a few mounting holes, and physically inserting the low voltage wires from the old doorbell into the new Doorbell Cam. This took another 20 minutes, tops, and the keypad addition rounded out my installation time to just under an hour. The August app configuration recognizing my Netgear router (located on the second floor) and the Lock and Doorbell Cam was as slick as any Apple user has come to expect. My wife and I literally no longer carry a set of keys. We've set the lock to open within 100 yards of sensing our iPhones, and to auto-close after 1 minute. It's a little nervous-making to trust how rock-solid August makes this work, and that's why I've waiting for four weeks to review the products. We've given our adult kids their own access codes, and the August software logs every entry and exit, with each user or guest name, date and time. If I'm away from home, I get a notification on my phone when the doorbell rings, along with a video feed of who is there and an option to talk to the person via the Doorbell Cam two-way microphone and speaker. I can look at a live video feed from the door anytime from anywhere. The August Smart Lock and Doorbell Cam combination is beautifully made, and August has obviously gone to great pains to make installation easy for the average homeowner, and functionality simple and straightforward for any smartphone user. I **highly** recommend this product.

My August lock (Model: ASL-02) didn’t make it two years. The mechanism inside the lock has broken and now the bolt gets stuck halfway through the turn making it impossible to unlock the door. It’s too bad I really liked the product up until this happened. Don’t waste your money on this lock.

If you ask me: what's the best thing about August Smart Lock, I'd say: the feeling of getting home and have your door unlocked automatically. That's the best thing about this (not too) little guy. From inside my house I am able to lock and unlock the door for guests, but I won't be using this feature that much. Although this device doesn't bring wifi capabilities (only Bluetooth), I am still able to use Apple's HomeKit (and that allows me to use it with Siri). So I don't mind not being able to use it with alexa, because when I get home, I will have my iPhone and Apple Watch with me anyways. No one carries "Alexa" anywhere. In the future, if I feel the need of opening my door remotely, I just get the August connect. I've seen people complaining about this smart lock, but I have nothing to complain about so far!

I purchased the August Smart Lock HomeKit (aka 2nd generation) for use with my iPhone. I didn't need to buy the extra August Connect because I already have the latest version of Apple TV. Installation was easy (it took me maybe 30 minutes; print the instructions from the website instead of using the abbreviated instructions that come in the box) Then I installed the August Access App on my iPhone and activated the AutoOff and AutoOn functions. This thing REALLY. works. For example, we left our house today, just closing the door behind us. We drove away and as we left the immediate area, the door locked itself. When we returned home, the August Smart Lock unlocked itself making hands-free entry possible. I am also able to tell Siri to unlock or lock the front door. But the Auto functions make using Siri a seldom used function. If I forget my cell phone, the original house keys still unlock my door because the August Smart Lock uses the old cylinder and key hole. Very clever design. If your door has both a dead bolt and a regular door knob with a locking device, don't use that redundant locking device. The single dead bolt may give you adequate security. I am very pleased with the way the August Smart Lock has worked for me with the Apple Home Kit. I highly recommend it.

Wanting to finally have a lock that could automatically "lock" itself when I forgot, I decided to go with the August Smart Lock. It's easy enough to setup, and has a solid feel and nice, modern design. It is bigger than I expected, and looks a little out of place on the door itself. Not a huge deal however, the main concern is how it works. After setting it up through the August app, which again was easy enough, I tested the lock/unlocking from my phone. It takes a few seconds to register, but it did work every time. I then connected the August app with Homekit on my iPhone. Locking and unlocking also worked through the Home app, but even better, I could use Siri to lock or unlock my front door. One of the issues I have with this lock is that it's Bluetooth-only. Meaning, if you're our of Bluetooth range, you won't be able to control it. This frustrated me when I realized I forgot to lock my door, but was unable to control it while I was at the grocery store. There is an auto-lock function that will lock the door after a set time, but I'd prefer to have full control myself wherever I go. There is another way around this Bluetooth-limitation: purchase the August Connect hub separately. This hub basically just gives your lock WiFi connectivity so you can control it anywhere. But it's around $60 for this add-on. I just couldn't bring myself to fork over another $60 to add on one or two features. Perhaps in the future if it goes on sale. Another issue I had is that Alexa is unable to control the lock without the hub. She can connect to the August app just fine and "see" the lock, but cannot utilize Bluetooth to actually do anything. I can't comment on how Alexa works with the lock because I never found out. There's another function, called auto-unlock, which will automatically unlock the door as you come home. This one worked well enough, and the app notified me that the door was unlocked each time I pulled into my driveway. I do wish it would wait until I was a little closer before unlocking, but I can't complain too much. All in all, it's a solid smart lock that will get the job done if you're willing to deal with it's shortcomings. If you're looking for "control from anywhere" functionality or want to use Alexa voice control, make sure you pick up the hub... preferably when it's on sale.

The August Bluetooth Deadbolt Smart Lock is a good product that could be great. The mechanical operation is smooth and the smartphone app is straight forward and easy to use. Setup was easy and only took about 15 minutes until I got to the last step (see item #1 below). I would give it 5 stars except for 2 pretty big drawbacks. 1- It's really big! I am not sure why it is so large (maybe the AA batteries?). But for me, this created a problem because the door I installed it on has a framed window and I had to temporarily remove part of the mullion to get the lock to "snap on" (see picture attached) and then replace the mullion. This may or may not be a problem for your installation. 2- It's Expensive! For the fairly high price for this product, it really should include the WiFi bridge (think Ring Doorbell)! My wife gave it to me for Christmas saying, "when someone needs to come in our home and we are away, we can remotely unlock the door. We can also monitor who is coming and going when we are out of town (like the dog sitter)". Nope. Not unless you shell out an extra $80 for the plug in WiFi bridge that connects the lock to your home WiFi network. Without it, this is a "local only" bluetooth device which essentially makes it a fancy door lock with the ability to log events. I do like the functionality but August should sharpen their pencil and figure out how to make this a little more cost competitive before pulls the rug out from under them! (also, please shrink the thing a little!)

I bought this because I don't want to change current dead bolt key and it works great. I thought this model is 3rd gen model but this is 2nd gen model so I could not get door sensor. But I could lock and unlock this everywhere by my iPhone because this works with HomeKit is nice. Auto lock and unlock function is convenient also.

After reading reviews on this lock as well as others I decided to purchase the August Lock. After a few weeks its still working without any issues. I bought the August Connect as well for remote access. I just wish it came built in with the lock. It's great that I do not have to change my outside feature and not have new keys.

It’s a great lock and works about 80% of the time. I would still take your keys, and if someone is the last one to leave, make sure it is locked properly. I use it with HomeKit, and sometimes Siri can’t control it. Regardless it looks great and it does have its benefits as a smart lock.

The August Smart Lock is a great product! It allows you to open your door without fumbling for a key. It also allows you to give someone else access temporarily without giving them a key that can be copied. With the use of August Connect (Sold separately) it will enable you to unlock the door remotely. This is handy in cases where you aren't home and you forgot about an appointment to let a trusted service person in, or if you unexpectedly need to allow access to someone remotely.

The lock was easy to install, and it even manages to consistently handle locking mechanism that can be a little sticky depending on the temperature, which was my big concern when buying it. The auto-unlock feature works really well, especially when I have groceries I'm carrying. The actual August software can be a little flakey on my Apple Watch, but I have found that since I have an Apple TV, it is better to go with HomeKit as the primary way to lock and unlock. It even works when I'm away from the apartment, thanks to the Apple TV working as a bridge between the internet and the lock.

It's compatible with most door types and the installation is very simple. Auto Unlock feature works every time.
