Overall the lock works as advertised, but there are many areas that could be improved. At times the lock cannot be woke from power save through the app, and needs to be through Apple TV or other form. The battery last longer than expected, which is a nice surprise. The lock works well with HomeKit although it would be nice to have some more features inside the HomeKit app. You cannot set alarms, give access, or setup time restrictions in HomeKit like you can the August app. All things considered the lock has not been a disappointment.

I strongly recommend this lock for any front door. It’s Autolock in case you forget to lock. Also, you can access the open and lock feature through your mobile. Incase one of your family members forget their key. You can open the door for them through your phone using WiFi.

I had the 1st generation and could never get it to work properly, so returned it. But this 2nd gen model has Apple Homekit enabled and it works like a charm. My only minor issue was difficulty in mounting it correctly on the door. The inside knob should turn freely and easily for opening and closing manually. Mine did not. However, after a phone call to the excellent tech support line, and a few more adjustments, I got it to work and now it's ideal. Super happy to have it and would recommend without reservations.

This hands down is the best smart lock on the market. Easy setup and works every time.

I researched and talk to lots of people on pro and cons of smart locks and August was the one always in top. If you do have Apple products it gets even better as it works seamlessly with Apple HomeKit and unlike Kwikset it's free to send people access to open the lock.

I bought the August Smart Lock because I live in a Condo community with an HOA and I needed to be able to re-use the exterior deadbolt hardware. This lock installed very easily and quickly, and I connected it to my home network without a hiccup. So far, I am quite pleased. I was traveling and had a dog sitter staying at my home. I was able to see that she had forgotten to lock the front door deadbolt and get that remedied before something happened. So, it has already solved a potential problem.

Wife loves the lock. Set up was easy right to our Apple TV. No bridge is necessary.

Great Product, just as described, however my phone enters energy saving mode and turns bluetooth off, and that prevents lock from opening when I get home.

First, from the pictures and how the item looks overall I was expecting the lock itself to be much heavier, more sturdy and thicker. Although, I'm assuming that they materials used were to save batteries in the long run. The lock seems to be sturdy enough and working great so far. Second, I jumped the gun reading the installation instruction when my deadbolt wasn't in the compatible locks, BUT there is a video on the manufacturer's website that says: "even though your lock may not be in the compatible list it might be compatible with many different locks not on their list". And it was right, August worked with our deadbolt! I did purchase the extended warranty just in case but the lock seems to be working GREAT! We love it. Lastly, since the application update, the auto-lock works like a charm. I have Android and the wife has iOS. August works perfectly with both Android and iOS.

So easy to install , so easy to use. I connected to my home kit on my I phone and said " lock door ... and it did ..you have to have this . Also I set up a geo fence so when I get near my home , it knows it's me and unlocks automatically ... so cool !

Decided to go this route vs having electronics on the outside of the door. Installation is a breeze. What August doesn’t tell you is the August Connect module will only connect to one lock. Two doors...two Connect modules. They also don’t tell you that the “doorsense” module only works with Gen 3 locks, that evidently only come in the “Pro” kit. Save yourself time, trips to the store and added aggravation and purchase the pro kit for all doors.

August has one of the better looking smart locks and jumped ahead of other vendors in the market initially. There are a slew of new options hitting the market soon. However, at this moment, August has the best option. You will be able to lock/unlock your door via your phone using Bluetooth. If you want to remote activate your August lock, you will have to pay another $80 or so to buy the WiFi bridge and it must be plugged into a wall socket within 15 of the lock for best results. Remote connectivity takes close to a minute to connect but works well once connected. Many people complain about the time it takes the lock to sync to the phone. It varies. August has an auto unlock feature that worked great for about 2 weeks. It hasn't worked since regardless of turning it off and on in the app. I don't really feel like having to reset the lock to get it going again but this shouldn't be a issue. August needs to fix this. This is the second gen lock so things like this shouldn't be happening. In total, this can be a bit expensive after spending $199 for the lock and $80 for the WiFi bridge. I also use Google Home and there isn't a lot you can do with August via Google Home. Check the status and lock is it. I'm converting my home to a smart home where possible so August was just another step for me to complete the process. I've seen a new smart Lock that's hitting the market soon and although it doesn't look as good as August, it does appear to be more responsive and cheaper so I'm hoping this motivates August to make some software improvements. All in all, you're going to have to decide if it's worth it to you. Having my kids use their phone to get in the house versus keys which they commonly forgot was also a feature I liked.

Wanted to be able to control my front door with my phone and my Xfinity home security unfortunately this is the only smart lock they support with their system. I really liked my other smart lock with just entering the code to enter but the motor died in it. With this lock not only is the lock itself expensive but to get it to work with your phone and to have a Key pad outside you have to purchase 2 more components which are not inexpensive.

I bought is afterwaiting for an year when the price was dropped to $150~ . It is worth for what you pay. Being skeptical about bluetooth encryption, I cannot put it on my front door.

Bought this lock as the first part of my Apple HomeKit upgrades. I love it! The auto-lock feature and the geo-fencing are particularly great. It is very convenient to not have to use a key to get in and out and I always know my door is locked. I have had a guest stay and had no problem using the lock with a temporary key. The integration with HomeKit works well. Never been locked out though and my lock can still operate with a key, so I can't be locked out even if there is a malfunction (which has never happened). My only warning is that my original deadbolt was very cheap and not compatible with the conversion pieces provided by August. Because my lock was so cheap I chose to replace it anyway, but ***check the compatibility*** of the lock in your door with the August website before you go with this product.
