The August lock was easy to install, and works great

I purchased the August Doorbell and August Smart Lock after reading about their pros and cons from various web sites. I knew from the beginning, this project would require patience and a strong wi-fi. So before I even bought the doorbell or smart lock, I bought a highly rated wi-fi range extender and installed it near my front door and confirmed that I could get a strong wi-fi signal and consistent high speeds (fast upload speeds are more important than download speeds). The August Door Bell Camera connects to wi-fi so you can remotely view the camera and it also works as a wi-fi Bluetooth bridge to communicate with the August Smart Lock. Without the bridge, the smart lock only works as a local device and you cannot communicate with it over the internet. August sells a wi-fi Bluetooth bridge stand alone device for about $80, I figured it was worth the extra money to get the doorbell camera and bridge all in one. I first installed the doorbell after downloading the instructions from August. The installation is straightforward and fairly simple. It took me about 45 minutes to completely install the doorbell camera. I waited another 45 minutes for the doorbell battery to partially charge (it seems the camera operates off of an internal battery and the low voltage doorbell wiring charges that battery). Once the doorbell camera had enough power I connected it to the internet via the August App. The app was extremely easy to follow and the doorbell camera was active immediately. WARNING: if you encounter any problems while connecting the app/camera/wi-fi, DO NOT PUSH THE RESET BUTTON that is located on the back of the doorbell. Call tech support first. Apparently, there is a known issue with the reset button that could cause the external speaker to become disabled. I installed the August Smart Lock next. The design of this lock is genius!. I had it on the door, synced with the doorbell, and working in less than 15 minutes. The app makes it simple. The picture and sound quality from the camera is impressive. The microphone is so sensitive I can hear everything that is going on in front of my house. The app responds immediately once somebody rings the doorbell or when motion is detected and within seconds I can see, hear, and talk to anyone at my front door. The smart lock is smooth and quiet and easy to operate remotely or manually. The secret to making this go smoothly : make sure your original deadbolt operates properly before installing the smart lock, make sure you have a VERY strong wi-fi signal, make sure you have high up/download speeds, and take your time. My August Doorbell Camera and Smart Lock are awesome! I couldn't be happier.

I think it's a great product but I couldn't get it to work with the gps/wifi so it would automatically unlock without me having to pull out my phone or keys.

Pros: Very simple, add on solution to make your door lock smart. If you live on a condo and you can't or want to change your actual lock, this is your best option. Cons: Connection is not very reliable and the Bluetooth range is short. I suggest getting the August Connect. Even though, WiFi or Bluetooth connections need some work, they constantly fail at connecting to the smart lock.

This product is fantastic. It works like a charm every time. There are three things that prevented me from giving this Five Stars. 1, I had to buy an accessory for $80 to unlock my door remotely if away from home (a feature some may not want). 2, the automatic features drain the battery really fast. 3, there needs to be a better notification on the app when the battery is low.

I wish it came in oil rubbed bronze or white, but this is a great piece to my connected home. Easiest install in the house. Works with my existing keyed lock.

It met all expectations. Vey easy to install and set up. Go see one before you buy. It is larger than you think. If you are ok with the size, as was I,it is an awesome product. Seriously consider add the August door camera. The lock works off Bluetooth. The camera work off your home Wifi. You can view your camera from anywhere and remotely control your lock with the camera. Fluff: Liked the packaging, blown away they provided masking tape to hold the deadbolt face in place.

I installed to my garage door and it took me 15 minutes to instal it. As I enter the house with shopping bags thru garage door, I need not look for keys. I can lock and unlock with a touch.

I installed the lock which was easy. However the app is no good. Without the app it does not work. Every time I signed in it would go back to the home screen and start over. I thought maybe it was a compatibility issue so I installed the app into my iOS device and same thing. Contacting August has not been says either. There is no way around either. Major inconvenience.

It’s ok, it unlocks using your phones Bluetooth, so you have to be near the lock. It doesn’t unlock via WiFi, so if ur at work and want to unlock for someone it will Not work that way. You have to send them “key” and they use Bluetooth on their phone. Easy install. Bulky device

Bought the August Smart Lock on a deal of the day! Great price, easy to install. Works perfect! I added wifi connect! Opens and locks doors automatically! My wife even loves it!

This was an easy install and set up. No problems in the month I’ve had. I love the Auto Unlock feature. No more knocking on the door or fumbling with keys. Walk up and walk in.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the August lock, it's great to share the phone connection with our trusted friends and family, the app works great, and I like the history log so you know when the door was locked/ unlocked. I also love the fact that you can't tell that it's a bluetooth lock from the exterior. I do have two complaints: 1) the auto-unlock can be a little slow while your phone connects to internal wifi and I've had errors before where it would have been quicker to manually unlock. It would be better if this worked with a keyfob or something along those lines so there's no delay. 2) The interior fixture is so large that it interferes with our ability to twist the door-handle.

2 weeks into purchase & installation works as described but on slower side. That being said it takes little longer to get connected both with Bluetooth and WiFi. Also doesn't look like it should be priced at $230.00. To me it's worth only $100.00. Material & hardware $30.00 + Technology $70.00. If you are a tech savvy okay to get on a better deal.

Can't complain about this product much. Super easy to install, very easy to use and the settings allow for it to be customized to your liking. The only gripe I have with it is in regards to a Google Assistant, at this point you cannot unlock the door with the Google Home, only lock it or check the status of it (i.e. locked or unlocked).

So far I absolutely love it, I have had it for about a year now and I would say about 98% of the time it does exactly what you want! The only problem I have is with the connect device. Every once and a while it will have trouble connecting and wont respond. However you can still use your key in those rare instances so no problem here!

I would have to say this product works great overall when your install is the perfect scenario. First off, you have to make sure there is plenty of clearance between the knob hole and Deadbolt hole. Most are but if you previously had a knob/Deadbolt all in one kit previously you make sure there's enough clearance because this smart lock version is pretty big. Mine probably cleared within a couple of centimeters. Second, if you end up having to replace your Deadbolt (like me) there may be issues with your door jam/frame where it secures into. I had to keep carving out extra wood to make sure the Deadbolt locks smoothly. If it barely touches this smart lock won't work and it WILL NOT work with force. Last thing is (in my opinion) it should automatically work with your home network as opposed to Bluetooth. It's a shame that you have to spend an extra $60-$70 to make that happen. This is just my preference. This may be okay for others

During the summer months I park my car outside so we can have room for our bikes in the garage. When I do this I use the front door and was always having to dig for my keys. This smart lock has a great auto unlock feature that unlocks your door once you get close! I love the convinence of the lock! My only complaint is that sometimes it takes longer than other.

I really like this lock! As a runner I love leaving my house with nothing in my hands for long runs. With just my Apple watch and AirPods I can leave for my runs now! I do with this had the door closed sensor the gen 3 versions have, but this is a very good product. With HomeKit and AppleTV gen 4 you're always connected to your lock!
