This movie has me laughing the whole way Jason Batman is great in this. All comedy all the way yes there is a plot to this not just jokes a picking on the kids.

Jason Bateman returns to the screen on both sides of the camera in Bad Words, one of the best comedies of the year. In it, he plays a 40-year-old man, Guy Trillby, who competes in a spelling bee with a bunch of preteens because of a loophole. Why is he really doing this? The mystery fuels the surprising heart of this witty, irreverent film.
It was great to see Jason Bateman step up as a director, and for a first film, this was excellent. Bateman has a way of getting the best performances from his actors, and he isn't afraid to take chances with the material he puts up. If you haven't seen the movie, give it a try.
This blu-ray release from Best Buy is the best way to do so. The film is crisp, the audio clear, and the price is reasonable. I have only one complaint, and that is the lack of extras on the disc. Outside of a 15-minute behind-the-scenes featurette and an audio commentary, there's really nothing to speak of, and it feels like just a step above the bare minimum. Still, this film is worth having in your collection, and will guarantee a lot of laughs in the years to come.

And he does a darn good job in this movie. For 80% of the movie he is short, vile and everything most of us would hate. A far cry from his exasperated lovable loser he's played so well lately (Extract, Identity Thief to name a few).
Hang in there Bateman fans, the pay off at the end is very worth while. It almost plays out like a coming of age story where a bad kid has a few real life experiences and emerges out the other side a better and wiser (dare I say kinder) person.
Don't let the previous section put you off from the movie, it's also got a lot of great (if not crude) comedy scenes as well. I'd say it has something for the whole family but I certainly wouldn't put this in front of most kids!

Bateman's characters can be as off-putting as his comedies, and Guy Trilby and Bad Words are more divisive than most. Even so, the film is built around an effective mystery that works incredibly well, affording Bateman the opportunity to make Guy as bad as he likes without losing his audience before turning it all around. Guy may be the worst of the worst but, by film's end, he resembles something... human, perhaps even someone worth rooting for, or at least worthy enough for 90-minutes of laughs. Universal's Blu-ray release doesn't disappoint either, thanks to an excellent video presentation, solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track and small but decent selection of extras.

Bad Words = Good Movie

Bad Words was an enjoyable film for first time director Jason Bateman. Playing the lead role in the movie, Jason gives the character the brashness that the title suggest. Obviously as the title suggest there are some bad words in the movie, I think Jason managed to get most of them in the movie. If you are a fan of dark or raunchy humor you'll most likely enjoy this movie, if you don't like that kind of humor you might want to skip this one.

Jason Bateman's Best

Despite the mixed reviews the film received when it came out, I'd say this is probably one of Bateman's best performances. Which is to say that while his character is interesting, and hilarious, he's not exactly likable. But if you can get past that (I personally think some of the best protagonists aren't likable in the slightest) and the film's rude, biting sense of humor, you'll be in for a good time. This movie really is a gem.

When I read the summary of the movie to find out what it was about I figured it would just be a silly film which I was more than okay with because I am a fan Jason Bateman. However, when watching the film it was obvious that it was just not a comedy because of the different emotions displayed throughout the story. Bad Words was definitely pretty funny but it pulls on some other strings too that is not commonly done in movies.

You've heard of Bad Santa? Think of this movie as Bad Speller! An absolutely hilarious flick with just a bit too much gratuitous intercourse (I got edited for using the obvious word) and language to be considered a family movie. Put the kids to bed and have a good time with this film.

I'm a Jason Bateman fan. Even so, I approached this movie with rather low expectations. Whoa, was I pleasantly surprised. While billed as a comedy, it also has serious dramatic undertones which surface as the story evolves. A really good movie. Highly recommended.

I'm a Jason Bateman fan so I might be a little biased. I thought it was pretty funny. Crude humor that I'm sure isn't for everyone. The little kid does a really good job. This is a movie you can watch more than once. Great movie to add to the collection....especially if you like to laugh.

This is one of my favorite comedy's I've seen lately. I laughed the whole time, because it wasn't the type of movie I expected it to be. I saw it on HBO and loved it and had to buy it right away. The script was hilarious if you like raunchy comedy with a lot of vulgar language and humorous adult situations, this is the movie for you.

My wife and I really enjoyed this movie. It was predictable to her but she is a whiz at figuring out the plot line about 6 minutes into a movie, so... It was comical, snarky, sometimes a little over - the - top but all in all, a great performance by Bateman.

it was surprisingly funny, I didn't think it would be that good of a movie but it has a lot of humor to it, the plot could've been a bit better and the ending definitely could have been better, but all and all it was a good movie

Jason Bateman is hilarious! This movie was awesome with a lot of unexpected adult humor or "ear muff" parts. This movie kept me laughing! The plot of the movie is rather dull but overall a good movie with great actors.

A friend got me to watch this movie and I loved it. If you are easily offended, this movie in not for you. However, for those who have a robust sense of humor, this is a movie you shouldn't miss. I paid $6 for this on Blu-ray and it was worth every penny.

Jason Bateman has become one of my favorite movie actors, which is funny considering how much I didn't like him when he was a child actor. He's perfect for the role he plays in this movie.

My girlfriend and I first rented bad words on peoples recommendation that it was a funny movie. My girlfriend and I loved identity theft so we tried this movie out. By the time the movie ended my girlfriend and I were on the floor laughing! Jason Bateman did it again!

Perhaps the funniest movie I had never heard of before- and a great story to boot. Bateman's "smarminess" is better than ever with some additional anger behind it and young Rohan Chand plays his role to perfection. And he also directed it.
