This 4k edition actually came with a slipcover after years of it being on the market. I was stoked by that/very surprised! The 4k transfer was excellent; kinda scary-very freaky animated film. This storyline from 1988 changed the way the joker would be seen. The Joker is NOT your childhood Joker-this is your very adult Joker. Not meant for the kids..it is really not meant for everyone. Kinda disturbing honestly

See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... And one night, one night they decide they don't like living in an asylum any more. They decide they're going to escape! So, like, they get up onto the roof, and there, just across this narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in the moon light... stretching away to freedom. Now, the first guy, he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend did not dare make the leap. Y'see... Y'see, he's afraid of falling. So then, the first guy has an idea... He says 'Hey! I have my flashlight with me! I'll shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk along the beam and join me!' B-but the second guy just shakes his head. He suh-says... He says 'Wh-what do you think I am? Crazy? You'd turn it off when I was half way across!'

For Above 17 Audience due to Subject Matter

The topics and subject matter discussed in this video are too violent and controversial for viewers younger than 17. The violence and what happens to Barbara Gordon by the Joker is too graphic. Not to ruin the video, I won't mention the details. And her episode in the beginning with Batman again is controversial. It was surprising to have Batman laughing at the very end with the Joker as in the video series, Batman is always serious. This ending displays a Batman emotion not usually present

Deviates too much from source material

The people behind this movie wanted to make a Batgirl animated film, that's fine but they should not have chosen this story as the baseline for their movie. They shoehorned in something that wasn't in the source material and turned something that was supposed to be about the Joker into a Batgirl movie. The parts of the movie that stick to the original source material are great. The voice acting is top notch as is the animation, it's definitely on par with previous DC animated movies that somehow do a better job with their characters than the recent live action films. But they dropped the ball with this one. They turned Batgirl into a rabid Batman fangirl and pushed James Gordon to the side. The source comic shows the Joker's origin story and here, it just feels rushed and tacked on as the writers and director shifted the focus of the movie. They made Batgirl something that she isn't and forced a major aspect between her and Batman that just wasn't needed. There are parts of The Killing Joke that are great, then there are other parts that made me cringe. I understand expanding on the source material as the comic was short and would have made a 30 minute movie. Maybe that's all this should have been though, a 30 minute short film bringing back Mark Hamill as the Joker and Kevin Conroy as Batman/Wayne one last time. It's sad that this will be their last movie when it could have been better. I still think it's worth watching just to see the scenes that stick to the source.

Loved the graphic novel/enjoyed the movie

I have been a fan of The Killing Joke graphic novel since its release. It was shocking and compelling and such an adult take on the characters and their motivations. The faithfully adapted animated movie sustains this and more. I can't say I was a fan of the "interaction" between Batman and Batgirl in this feature but I understand it for those who might not be as familiar with Batgirl as most comic book readers are. Still, I enjoyed the movie and animation and would recommend it to others.

The prologue that was added was not really needed. It was ok. It added a little depth. But to many it just didn't fit in. Once the story kicks in. I dig it. Have Mark Hamil and Kevin Conroy is the only way they could have ever done this. It's very dark at times. This is not a movie for kids for all of you parents out there that think animation equals child friendly. This is up there with the dark knight returns in the context of the conniving and evil joker. I highly recommend it.

I never read the comic, I actually read the comic after I had watched the movie. So after watching the movie with all the previews and everything, I just wanted more from the movie. I'm a huge Batman fan and was somewhat disappointed towards the end. After reading the comic I was more enlightened. I still enjoyed the movie but if you haven't read the comic you will be confused because there are some holes that are left in this movie. But still, if you're a batman fan, you'll like it.

I thought this movie actually added depth to the characters over the graphic novel. I, know, heresy, some will proclaim. If anything the beginning was more entertaining than the actual the Killing Joke part. The main complaint I had was that the animation just seemed so blaaahh. Bolland's style couldn't be repeated but surely we could have gotten something better than this for animated style. My concern is that they are trying to get these out so fast, the animation is suffering.

I read the Killing Joke in college and loved it. I was so pumped when I heard this was being animated as well as Mark Hamil coming back as Joker and Kevin Conroy reprising his role as Batman. There is a half hour 'prelude' focusing on Batgirl which i didn't mind save for one particular scene that I thought was weird. I feel like they were trying to get the audience invested in her and that could have been done without said scene. The actual Killing Joke part was awesome.

The Killing Joke is arguably one of the greatest Batman stories ever printed. Unfortunately is isn't very long and a new segment was written to set up the existing story. The first thirty minutes or so controversially establishes Batman's relationship with Batgirl (whom we have not had much exposure to in DC animated films), which is necessary for the shock of this story to truly take hold. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return to voice Batman and the Joker respectively.

I would have to say that the movie was good but could have been better. The first 30 minutes gives you a background story of Batgirl and then afterward the Killing Joke story begins. The background story was ok to watch and the Killing Joke story was a mirror image of the graphic novel which is good. Overall, it is not as good as Flashpoint, Under the Red Hood, or Assault on Arkham, but it was still fun to watch. I just don't know if I want to keep it or return it.

While I still enjoyed this outing of the Dark Knight, I still prefer Mask of the Phantasm. It is store more accessible to the mainstream audience, where The Killing Joke is more for hardcore fans.It is much darker, the production values are quite a bit better and the transfer is light years ahead of the MotP DVD. I'd still recommend it, especially with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles. Would love to hear more of their work together!

I enjoyed this movie. Yes it is true it didn't live up to the standard and expectations that comic fans had, but it wasn't bad. I felt that critics were to harsh on the first 17 minutes of the movie. It is a little old what they added in but it is believable, just not needed. What was 4 star worthy was the second leg of the movie. The part that comes from the comic book adaption. I loved every second as the book came to life in movie form.

Adaption of a comic book classic

The killing joke is a modern classic and even the movie has a different prelude to the story or better an extended, I like this animated batman story. Even though it has some 1:1 adaptions from the comic panels to the movie it has its own dynamics. Hardcore fans of the comic might be disappointed because the adaption is not a 100% stringent. For me it was a nice adaption. If you're in doubt, you'd rather rent it in a red box before you buy it.

    Joker's origin story

This movie brings the classic graphic novel to your screen. One of the best Joker stories ever created. Joker is voiced by the one and only Mark Hamil and Batman by Kevin Conroy just like they were in the 90's animated Batman series! The producers added a little extra to this story by throwing in a sort of prologue short that features Barbara Gordon/Batgirl. I didn't find it necessary but I guess it may have been added to fill in a bit of a back story for one particular but very intense event that happens in the story later. Great movie but parents should keep in mind that it is rated R so be sure to view it first and decide for yourself if the kids should watch it.

I thought this was going to come with "The killing joke" comic but instead it comes with "the man who laughs" comic book. That's not too upsetting seeing as it comes w/ the killing joke blu ray, the packaging is nice. Doesn't fit well on the shelf unless you take everything out and just put the Blu Ray on the shelf and the graphic novel on another. Overall if this goes on sale, get it if you are a batman fan or a DC collector!

This movie reminded me of Batman: the Animated Series, but grittier, which I believe was the idea. Having Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprise their iconic roles definitely adds to the film. It's a fitting finale to the Batman :TAS series if their was a finale. I think if you enjoy the rivalry between Bats and Joker then this needs to be in your collection. Its based off of the comic story and is a winner in my book.

I have been waiting for this movie since i saw the trailer. Movie is well designed and its very well plotted. Obviously it has some disturbing scenes, but that's what make this movie intense. It more about proving a point. Half the movie is narrated by Bat girl. Joker wants to prove a point and as always he fails. Its about madness. Which is not by choice. Epic rivalry between batman and joker, turns into a very mature understanding. But this is a point that they can not go back where they have started. The joker's past is a really sad. All and all its the one of the best DC movie. I am a Batman fan. Maybe i am biased. But who cares.

Batman the Killing Joke wasn't as bad as the reviews said yes I wish the first 30 minutes never happened but it wasn't that bad and wasn't this movie meant to be about the Joke not about Batgirl I get they had to add more time for the movie and they tried to give Batgirl a back story so she would have a bigger role in the movie then she did in the graphic novel but I felt it wasn't needed and the whole Batman and Batgirl thing I never saw that coming I know people are going to say they had a thing and it was hinted in Batman Beyond but I never saw their relationship that way I always saw their relationship as mentor and student
