I knew of the match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, but didn't really know how it played out. I used to play tennis, and I found this movie very entertaining. I couldn't wait to own it, and watch it again, and again.

This is a solid film, but it falls back on cliche narrative conventions. The strength of the film is in the performances by Emma Stone and Steve Carell

Steve Carell and Emma Stone recreate the iconic showdown between tennis stars Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King back in the 70's, when the country was oh so different from today that it almost makes you nostalgic. Did we really dress that way? Talk that way? Think that way? Act that way? The tennis court grudge match between the show-boating Riggs and the determined King is, of course, the centerpiece of this story, but the film is much more than just a recreation of a memorable sporting event. It is a glimpse back to the way we were and why it was so necessary to change.

A Really Well Done Look At A 70's Event

Well done film. Very well acted - Steve Carell is especially good as Bobby Riggs. The film is engaging, funny, and moving in all the right spots. The "tolerance for all" message is laid on a bit thick. It's appropriate, just a little heavy handed at the end -- and the film offers no sympathy for BJK's supportive, loyal and cheated-on husband. But it's still a very good and effective movie, and a very accurate look back at the era.

Expected a bit more with Steve Carell and Emma Stone starring here. Chemistry not really there.

Yes, it's pretty much accurate, but even though we already know the outcome, the film takes through all the drama, tension, and even suspense not only of the match itself, but all the events and near-misses leading up to it. Fine performances from all the characters, not just the two leads, with an amazing re-creation of the 70's times, especially with gender and power issues in the world of tennis.

Remember the hoopla regarding the events but was not sure of all the details. I found the actors to be excellent and enjoyed learning more about the events that lead up to its famous tennis match. Also enjoyed the extras with some of the real characters sharing their experiences.

This movie covers the adult life of Billie Jean King. It shows what happened behind the scenes leading up to the tennis match she won against Bobbie Riggs who was the top male tennis player at that time. It seems realistic based on the fact that Billie Jean King consulted on the film. Emma Stone and Steve Carrell did a great job looking and acting like the main characters did in real life.

This is a very entertaining movie. Instead of focusing of the match of Billy Jean and Bobby Riggs, this movie is more about the character study of them. I think Emma Stone is excellent in this. Steve Carrell is a bit over the top but enjoyable.
