The best shooter I ever played was Battlefield Bad Company too and the expansion pack. But I didn't enjoy Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4. I especially hated Hardline. So while I always wanted to go back and play a WW I or WW II I held my expectations in check. I can't speak for anyone else but the future based shooters are extremely boring for me. I fired this game up and man did it remind me of Battlefield 2, which to me is an underrated masterpiece as I said. This game has depth, breathtaking graphics and interesting game modes that offer hundreds of hours of fun. My favorite game mode is War Pigeons I have already been in some great heart stopping matches. He is the secret weapon of Battlefield 1. The campaign is amazing. While great actors in them. It is the only shooter campaign I have ever played on wanted to finish. This game is Band of Brothers Battlefield, I realize BoB was WW II but you need to know the feel of the campaign and entire game. For me this is the best shooter I have ever played, and I have been playing since the original Doom. Battlefront, I said was like trying to play a beautiful photograph but was a very shallow experience. I am glad DICE crafted a game to make it's amazing game engine. This and Dark Souls 3 are my games of the year. With Dark Souls 3 slightly losing out if I had to pick. Pros - Graphics - Depth - Gameplay - Music - Game Modes Cons - Played so long forgot the real world existed Grade A+ Game of The Year Conclusion Battlefield 1 does everything right, which is something shooters haven't done in years - it brought us back to simpler times and apple pie dinners. For too long other shooters pushed the modern angle, with annoying future tech that overall ruined gameplay and messed with the flow of games. There is an emotional attachment for many when it comes to World War II and I later periods can't match. The multiplayer is a masterpiece but the real shocker is the top flight campaign that is like playing Band of Brothers WW I. This game simply has no weaknesses and for me is my 2016 game of the year.

Epic large scale battles at its best! The gameplay feels great in both multiplayer and single player modes. The visuals are stunning! The graphics are very sharp and the smaller details such as raindrops bouncing off your gun or mud collecting on your weapons and vehicles really adds to the visual quality of the game. The dynamic weather in the game always helps to keep gameplay feeling fresh. When the music kicks in towards the end of battles it really gets you pumped up and makes you feel great as you charge in to secure the objective and nab those final kills! I liked how they set up the single player campaign in here versus past Battlefield games. I think they finally found a formula that works. The opening of the single player story dropped my jaw to the floor as I was experiencing the horrors of war through different perspectives. This was what I had been looking for in war game for a long time! A game that explores the grim, terrible and horrifying things that soldiers experience in war. Sadly, this was not the case as the campaigns all take on a little more action movie feel. Which was fun but I would still like a game to take a deeper look into the seriousness of war. Multiplayer is a lot of fun with the game feeling even more team focused than ever before. XP boosts are rarer now and are squad XP boosts instead of just for you. The available weapons and vehicles in World War 1 were rather limited compared to today's arsenal, but DICE do a good job making it feel like there is more by giving you a choice of the same weapons with different attachments. Customization is very limited here as you just look like the class you pick and you can only change weapon skins that you must unlock from battlepacks. Conquest is no longer the main 64 player mode because the have added a more direct objective based game mode called Operations which is pretty good. You can also play with 40 players which is less chaotic and more balanced. I only have two big gripes with the game. The progression system isn’t deep enough and by the time I was about level 20 I found myself having unlocked the weapons in the classes I used and only unlocking weapon skins I didn’t care about from there forward. Now I am a hardcore fan, I played hardcore all the time in Battlefield 4, but there are very few active hardcore servers in Battlefield 1 and most of them are very unbalanced. Also they removed team markers in the new hardcore mode which results in bad players team killing all the time. If you are a hardcore player I would recommend playing normal or just avoiding the game. Pros: Outstanding gameplay Stunning visuals Incredible music Good single player campaign Epic large scale battles Dynamic weather Cons: Not a deep enough progression system Hardcore mode isn’t good In conclusion, the game looks and feels great. Exploring World War 1 is fun and interesting. The progression system left me disappointed and I found myself not sticking around as long as I would have liked too. If you are a casual Battlefield fan or are just interested in exploring The Great War then I would recommend this game for you. 4 out 5 stars

I stopped buying COD games after MW3 and BLOPS 1. Battlefield felt more like war games and less like arcade shooters to me. I loved BF3, BF4 had some issues, but over time those issues were resolved. NOw comes BF1...I'm one of those persons that loves history, so this game instantly appealed to me. The maps, weapons and vehicles make this game one of the best shooters out. The sounds are awesome!! COD imo is for kids and people who want quick satisfaction...BF1 for the money is the way to go.

I'm so happy they went with the WWI theme for this installment of Battlefield. It has been ignored for far too long. The gameplay is great, the vehicles are as amazingly well done as only Battlefield can do, and the Behemoths are a blast to play! My only recommendation is to NOT EVER buy the EA Game Pass. You have no idea if you'll enjoy each and every expansion, or if anyone even plays the game anymore. Other than the dumb EA Pass trying to scam you into effectively paying $150, this game is worth it!

Everything in this game is good, the graphics, sound, atmosphere, multiplayer, campaign, etc. Trust me, if you want buy a good game this year, Battlefield 1 must be your choice. You will not regret, I guarantee.

Loving this game. It is easily one of the best in the franchise. Awesome graphics and sound, new game modes and a great selection of maps. I would ding it a half a point for the quantity of weapons and gadgets but there's enough variety for now. More to come in future DLC.

I'll get this out of the way immediately. I have been a long time fan of Call of Duty. I have been a fan since the original, and my enjoyment peaked at COD Modern Warfare, and begin to lose interest when Ghost was released. I had played and enjoyed Battlefield 1942 on the PC, and really loved that version of the game as well, in addition to many of it's mods. Battlefield 1 has returned to it's roots of historical World War combat, which is where I believe this series excels! Battlefield has always been a game of strategy and teamwork. Modern Warfare games remove an element of teamwork, because troops have weapons which can make them an Universal Soldier. Battlefield 1 has large maps, with 32 vs 32 gameplay set in the historic WWI theater with weapons and combat of the early 1900s. The maps and environment is gorgeous. A lot of the environment is destructible. For instance, I was taking out troops from the attack of a barn, and a tank pummeled the building, causing the attack to collapse, where I fell to the main floor with almost no health, and then an enemy troop came into the rubble to finish me off. Deebris and and craters are caused by explosions, trees fall from artillery shells and explosions. All of this destruction is not a temporary visual effect either, but become a permanent part of the battlefield landscape. Explosions and gun shots are realistic, and the fog, dust, and debris is stunning. Fog, dust, and debris impacts viewing distance, and changes strategies of the game. In fact, these things change mid game, and can change strategies during a single game. THIS IS WHAT I'VE EXPECTED "NEXT GEN" consoles to deliver when I purchased a Xbox One!! When it comes to strategy, it is best (although not required) to play multiplayer with friends, because I feel communication is the key to doing well, especially against the seasoned veterans of the game. When I play solo, it is very difficult to do well, especially because I do not play enough, nor am I skilled enough to be a lone wolf. When I play with 2-4 other friends, and communicate, my success is almost doubled. Strategies include making sure our squad has at least two medics, a support, and any two remaining combinations. This is where I feel lies Battlefields greatest strength, and one of it's few weaknesses. Communication will help improve your multiplayer experience. Calling for a medic is easier with chat, spawning on a squad mate who is requesting backup, and pointing out enemy positions is key, and getting ammo from support when running low WILL improve your gaming experience. As for the single player, I have yet to finish it, since I've been loving the multiplayer so much. What I have played of it, I've found very enjoyable. The enemy spawn points in the Single player campaign can be frustrating, especially at the higher difficulties. After clearing out an area, enemies can mysteriously spawn behind you. The AI has a tendency to "cheat" at higher difficulties. If you are sniping at long distances, and shoot a soldier, while the other isn't looking, the enemy is able to turn and immediately shoot at, and hit you from over 300 yards away. How the hack does an enemy do that from 300 yards?! I only wish Co-Op was an option! Pros: Graphics Destructible Environments Team Play Sound Dedicated Servers 32 vs 32 Players Large Maps World War I weapons and machines Cons: Lack of good teammates (friends) can hurt the experience, like other multiplayer games. But, this seems to be the case for Battlefield 1 even more so. Single-Player AI "cheats" Single-Player Spawns

From the second I popped this game in I felt like the video game gods had plucked me from my chair and dropped me into one of the most immersive WW1 experiences ever created on a gaming screen. The graphics are a work of art in itself, incredibly realistic surfaces and Map design. The weapons will get any history or war buff their nostalgic fix, with most/all weapons including a bayonet which you can charge at enemies with. Battlefield 1 gives you a full circle war experience with man v man options or a full out war zone (conquest game mode) with tanks, planes, turret trucks, horses, etc. This game was speculated to be the game to take CODs throne, if there were a game to do it Battlefield 1 is definitely it. This is what the "next-gen" console games should feel and look like!

This was a day one purchase by me. The game is a blast. The story is pretty good. I really liked the opening mission. It gave you an idea that the soldiers life span wasn't very long. Now the ais might annoy you. They aren't the smartest. It's noticeable in the enemies. Where this game shines is online. Majority of the maps are fun and have a lot of room to move around. There aren't as many weapons as past Battlefield games. But that really isn't an issue. Overall I'm really happy with the game and it's a nice change of pace from the futuristic shooters.

I have always been an avid Battlefield fan, but this game has been the most fun to play than any of the game in the series in years! The multiplayer has been smooth even at launch and this time there is even a great campaign which is often rare to the Battlefield series. Would absolutely recommend if you are looking for a great multiplayer shooter that is a vacation from the typical future or modern warfare games that have seemingly taken over the industry!

This game DEFINITELY delivers on all the hype it created. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay mechanics are fun and not repetitive like some other games. Did I mention the severe reality of the game? It's just crazy. I think this might be the most perfect game to play if you want to see the true image of war. Not Call of Duty.... not yet. I do, however, wish the single player was a bit longer, but I do hear they might be making a DLC for that! I recommend to anyone!

    Engrossing Campaign, Disappointing Multiplayer

I'm going to preface this review by saying I'm in my 30s and very bad at multiplayer FPS games, so if you like Battlefield multiplayer you will probably still enjoy this game. I bought Battlefield 1 because of good reviews on the campaign and the unique World War I setting. I am about halfway through the War Stories campaign and while it's a bit difficult even on Normal mode, I'm really enjoying it. The graphic are spectacular, the short stories are moving and the setpieces are fun and well-directed. The pilot/Clyde Blackburn story is my favorite thus far. Unfortunately, I might trade this in once I've finished with the campaign because I can't stand the multiplayer. Again, the graphics are fantastic and the action/chaos actually does immerse you in the setting much better than other FPS games. However, the huge maps, and the fact that everything is a similar color (the scenery, the enemy players, and the players on your own team), it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to see who/what I'm supposed to be shooting at - the game does not seem to mark enemy players with a red outline until it's pretty much too late. I've played about 10 multiplayer matches, haven't managed to eliminate anyone, and have gotten sniped from across the map a huge number of times. Even when I get a vehicle, they control really poorly and I can't accomplish anything. Plus, in the campaign and the multiplayer the hit detection is ABYSMAL. I've emptied an entire weapon into a player from short range and gotten nothing. Anyway, my opinion is probably not the norm but that's how I feel about this game.
