I purchased this to extend the range of my current router. I tried to locate it in one end of the house where I get a weak signal but this extender would not pick up the signal from the router. I had to move it half way across the house to get a consistent connection. Result was that at the end of the house the signal from the router and the extender were about the same and the router connection was actually better and faster. The extender was returned.

Product would not connect with website. It would go to a white screen. I used the tech support. That was difficult because her accent was ao bad. She had me try many different things. Then kept putting me on hold to get additional help from a supervisor. Nothing worked so she just had me return it.

Extender would connect only a few times and would disconnect after 1-2 minutes. Tried various settings with the same result. Returned it for a Netgear extender and I am so happy with that purchase. Click of a button connection and it's not dropped connection once (over a month).

    Slightly difficult install

There were several problems installing this device before I managed to get it to work. 1. It first recognizes both 5.0 GHz and 2.4 GHz wireless networks the install can access. If you select a 2.4 model, it eventually lists the 5.0 networks and asks if you want to install one of those also. Frankly, I didn't understand for several hours what it was doing because the 5.0 screen looks like the 2.4 screen where you can manually specify a network with password. I felt dumb, but so was the support rep who took my statements at face value and did not know that I was supposed to click another button to approve the system's configuration, at which point it was done! 2. The instructions say to use a laptop and get close to the router it is extending. Tech support had me take the laptop upstairs, plug in the included network cable and try to configure from there. When, due to my misunderstanding the install screen, that didn't work, she made two recommendations: a. Have my router's tech support change the channel the router was transmitting the network name on because she concluded it was not broadcasting; b. Next mistake was to say that because this router used the the "ac" standard, it was incompatible with the range extender, at which point she tried to sell me a router. 3. I contacted D-Link my router maker. We changed both the network name and broadcast channel. I still couldn't figure out why it would not connect. I'm glad the D-Link support rep was so helpful but he eventually gave up. 4. Called Belkin tech support again, went through the install and understood what the screen was saying! All worked now. You should know why I went through this hassle. I love my music and wanted iTunes to play on my home theater system. After the range extender was configured, attached to my receiver, I could hear my iTunes library on my home theater system. (You've got to use the Remote app, an App Store download, to do this.) Unfortunately, this will NOT display video, though you can hear the audio of YouTube when playing a video on the iPad. Would I recommend this device? Well, if you're patient and get what I wrote here about the install procedure, then Yes. Otherwise no. The install is needlessly confusing. Note though that the Belkin did see my router when it was downstairs (and the router upstairs). So I went through much needless aggravation; I think I could've installed it without connecting the device to my laptop, etc. You'll have to know your network name, which it refers to as the SSID, the security protocol it is using and your router's password. A lot of work IMO.

I upgraded to a new flat screen TV in the bedroom that came with a wireless dongle and all of the new internet apps - unfortunately reception was terrible - Netflix took forever to start and would drop out all the time - web browsing would lag etc. One option was to install a Ethernet over powerline solution which I have elsewhere in the house which certainly would work - however it would also tie up a port on my router (I did not have a spare) and it would still leave me with lousy wireless signal at that end of the house which my wife (laptop) and teenage son (droid phone and itouch) had been complaining about. For about the same price this range extender solved all of the problems at once. Setup instructions are not difficult but this device is not plug and play. Setup involves loading the provided software onto a laptop or PC, connecting the range extender to the said laptop/pc with a provided ethernet cable, logging in to the range extender with your browser, and configuring the security settings. After that you save everything, unplug the range extender and move it to your chosen destination - it has to plug in - mine is about 21 feet from the router and connects with no issues through two interior walls. I keep it on the floor behind an arm chair - out of sight - I don't want to look at it -and the diodes are somewhat bright. One thing to note is that you will now have two wifi networks in your house - one will be something like "yournetwork" the other will be "yournetwork-XT". Not a big deal - your mobile devices should be smart enough to switch to whichever one proves the strongest signal at any given time. I have had it for about a month without any issues. We have been through some power glitches and it has reconnected automatically every time.

I read reviews on multiple range extenders on the website and spent nearly 2 full hours trying to decide which one would work best for me. I was leaning towards a linksys range extender because I though it would be easieset when paired with my wireless N router from Linksys. I came across this product and after reading the reviews decided to give it a shot, and it being on sale was a plus as well! The installation was SO easy, i had this thing up and running in 5 minutes almost on the nose. After placing the range extender halfway through the house, my back rooms where my wireless computer and wireless xbox are located instantly went from 2-3 bars to a solid 5 bars and never waver. This range extender is top notch, and the the price is very acceptable! I have only had it running for about 2 hours now, so I may report back in a couple weeks to give a further review and see if I deal with random disconnecting or anything that the others seem to have frequently. Thank you Belkin!
