The Beurer - HA85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers are well made, fairly lightweight so they are not uncomfortable to wear. They come in a well designed charging case with a see-thru lid that also includes two extra Li-ion batteries. They can all be charged at the same time and they have individual blinking green LEDs while charging, and turn solid when fully charged. They also come with different size silicone ear tips to accommodate most ear canal sizes. Unfortunately that’s where most of the positive experience ended. They are super sensitive to any touch, they will cause loud microphone feedback, high pitch sounds when there is any touch, even the slightest, even when just trying to turn the volume down or power off. Tried all the ear tips to make a good seal as recommended by the manual. Tried the lowest volume and both indoor and outdoor modes to no avail. So basically I was only able to test or tolerate them at the lowest volume setting and not make any movements or any touching. Even then, there is plenty of background whooshing sounds and whatever sounds are being amplified are very high-pitch, as if only the trebles were passing through. Unfortunately these will not be of much use. Back to the drawing board considering much more expensive true hearing aids, not digital amplifiers such as these.

Amplifies Sound, But With Issues

First impressions of the Beurer Hearing Amplifiers (HA 85) are very good.
In the box you get a nice storage/charging box, 2 amplifiers, 2 spare rechargeable batteries, cleaning tool, USB charging cable, multiple ear tips in varying sizes, a drying pod and an instruction manual.
The amplifiers are small and light and fit comfortably on your ear. Once you have them on and the ear tips installed you could almost forget that you are wearing them. There is a power button and a volume up and down button on each amplifier. The volume has 3 settings.
Charging can take up to 2 hours, however mine only needed a few minutes to reach full charge out of the box.
When first powered on you hear 3 loud beeps to let you know it’s on. These beeps are way too loud and really unnecessary.
You will know it’s on by the change in volume and sound. These same beeps repeat when the device is turned off.
Once it’s on you hear a humming /whistling noise which can be somewhat bothersome.
But once you have noise in the room, such as tv turned on, you don’t really hear that noise. It’s not that the noise is not there, it’s just drowned out by what you are listening to. In addition any noise that you or the people next to you make also gets amplified. Noises that you may not otherwise notice from just moving around. These noises can actually make it more difficult to hear what you are listening to.
The sound volume is improved with these on and the words are louder and clearer. To some the sound quality might sound tinny, but I think that is necessary to make the sound clearer.
The real negative issue is that whenever you put your hands anywhere near the device, to turn it off or adjust the position, you get loud piercing high pitched feedback noises. Some of these are so loud that I have had to quickly removed them from my ears while still on.
In summary, I really wanted to like these and for the most part I do. But I don’t know if I can get used the whistling background noise and the loud high pitched feedback when putting your hands on or near the device.
Because of this I will probably limit the amount of time that I use these.

Amplifiers That Have Much Background Interference

I have always thought (and was often told) that I had impeccable hearing. But last year after going through several months of chemotherapy I started asking people to repeat everything that they said. It was at the same time that everyone was wearing a mask, so I then thought that I had always had a hearing problem but had compensated for my hearing loss by being a great lip reader and had not even realized it. My doctor recently gave me a hearing test and said that I had lost some of my hearing. Not being ready for a hearing aid, I opted to try the Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifier because it seemed like a good choice since primarily I wanted to hear people who didn’t speak clearly or hear the television when I had the volume very low when not wanting to bother other around that were not interested in the same program.
The Digital Hearing Amplifiers comes as a pair conveniently packaged in their own charging case where they charge independently. Included is a micro-USB charger, two spare rechargeable batteries, eight exchangeable ear tips, one drying capsule and one cleaning brush. All of this is neatly contained within the charging storage box which makes the design of the product convenient to not only store, but to travel with. The hearing amplifier is designed with two hearing programs and amplifies sound both, indoor and outdoor. The instructions ask to allow 2-3 hours for charging which I planned to do before the initial use, but it only took about 35 minutes before the blinking green lights all turned solid which means fully charged.
The Digital Amplifiers are noticeably light and fit over the ear just like the design of many hearing aids. Most people would probably find them very comfortable, but I may not be a viable candidate for any type of assisted hearing device because being behind my ear was an irritation for me. They interfered with my glasses and my very short hair that is just starting to regrow. My glasses kept knocking them off and my hair certainly did not conceal them, neither of which was the hearing amplifiers’ direct fault.
The booklet is pretty straight forward, and I really tried to get a good seal by using all the ear tips to get the best fit. Still, I had so much feedback and the clarity of the sound was not good. I tried both indoor and outdoor adjustments in both outdoors and indoor settings and I really cannot get them to work without them producing a lot of screeching noise. Every time my dogs barked, I had to make an adjustment that then caused another screech or swoosh or whoosh and then the dogs would be quiet, and I had to turn the volume on the amplifiers back up. Just putting my hands near the volume control caused major screeching noise.
The Digital Amplifiers do not have a method for dealing with background noise and since the Digital Amplifiers are super sensitive, doorbells, rustling of paper, keyboard clicks, any mixture of sounds just does not seem to flow well together. Unfortunately, I do not think that I can use these very much. It seems that my tinnitus is worse after having worn these for any time at all, and for me they were very annoying to use with any background noise going on around what I was actually trying to hear by using them.

Finish off your hearing

I know I have reduced hearing from years of military service and age, but I feel like wearing these for any extended amount of time will just finish off whatever hearing I may have left.
First, they are fairly discrete looking, they do amplify sounds, they come with a choice of silicone ear pieces and have replaceable rechargeable batteries so you can keep them going without interruption. However, they highly amplify high pitch sounds and even ensuring the best fit and turning the volume down, you will still get an occasional screech or some horrible crackling sound from sounds these hearing amplifiers just don’t know what to do with. The screech typically only happens if you need to adjust something or anything like your glasses get too close to the microphone that is on top of each unit. But, some sounds, like a water faucet running, these things just go nuts with. The recommendation in the manual is to turn them down, but then you are barely hearing some things as the volume only has a few steps to it and still getting the screeching and crackling.
I have tried these in various settings and at times it amplified sounds that I was shocked by. Like the rubbing of my shaved head puts off a sound that was like every individual hair flicking off my hand. There was a moment I left my house and one of my dogs barked inside the house and I could have sworn she was outside. There is no doubt these amplified sounds that I can say I am not used to hearing. But, on normal everyday use, it was just too much. Crinkle any plastic or a chip bag and it is like your ears get destroyed. I never knew my toilet was so loud as it sounded like it ruptured the tiny speaker with the crackling. In conversations, other sounds would pop so loud that it was more disturbing than not hearing exactly what was said. While all of this was at the lowest volume setting because anything higher led to more screeching and crackling.
Overall, these do amplify sounds, although it sounds metallic and high pitched all the time. I just can’t get over the amount of over amplification of some sounds and the extremely sensitive feedback when anything gets near the unit. The package even says the frequency range is 200-8000 Hz and just look at what the average frequency is for human speech (85-255Hz). These really feel like a failed attempt at being hearing aids, so they put them on the commercial market as hearing amplifiers.

These were really surprising right out of the box. They looked better than my grandmothers hearing aids that cost her over $5000. The charging box is multi-functional. Yes it's a charger but also encapsulates them, protecting them whiled they're charging. Even better, it has a clear window with very bright green led's that flash while charging and let you known once they're fully charged. It has four slots so you can even charge the spare batteries while you're charging the ones attached to the aids at the same time. Tremendously saving time not having to wait to charge one set after the other.
The sound is definitely amplified especially smaller sounds that I guess I have been missing for years. For example, paper crackling, footsteps, etc. It was like hearing them for the first time in ages. At first it felt like when I talked I was using a microphone until I got the adjustment right. But once that was done I couldn't be happier!
The batteries lasted a couple of days using them here or there throughout the day, taking them off at night. It takes some getting used to all of the new noises.
Included in the set were different sized ear buds, two extra batteries, a really nice charging box and a micro usb charging cord. Wish it was a usb type C, like most use nowadays but over all was quite pleased with these! Thee only reason I took off one star
Would highly recommend these to others

A great alternative for borderline hearing issues

A well thought of product for those who don't necessarily have hearing loss, but struggle to hear those who whisper or mumble. My wife is a mumbler or a soft speaker. Often I hear about how I'm not listening to her, but to be honest, she is not a clear speaker or loud enough speaker for probably most to hear. Also, for TV shows in which you want to use a low volume on the TV but hear what is happening/being said. I found I was able to hear things more clearly and certainly more amplified.
I am borderline hearing loss. Some tests say yes and some say no. I received "real hearing aids" from Eargo. At $2500, it was an expensive experiment to realize that this is more of what I really needed. It is an amplifier for times I need to hear more of what is going on, but not a real hearing aid. For those with actual hearing loss, it may be enough of an amplification to hear more of what you are missing if you cannot or don't want to have hearing aids. They really do work.
The case is well planned. And 100% better than what I got with Eargo. It has an easy to place area to put in your devices, and spare batteries, then charge with bright lights to show charging status and a drying disc that removes moisture from within the very nice plastic storage/charging box. The box does not have a battery to charge, it must be powered to charge the devices and spare batteries. But very nice.
I have two minor complaints. The units are probably hearing aid sized, and that is great, but they don't work well with my glasses. They often were falling despite being placed correctly. If sitting in your easy chair or at dinner, no issue. But if you move around, it's gonna be an issue. I did notice that the microphone placement was perfect, no listening from the rear or not picking up. Perfect. The other issue is that wax is a major problem as the design doesn't really keep wax from getting into the little area that produces sound. Not the actual place where the wax guard is, but the ear cones you put over it. Easy enough to wisk away, but a bit frustrating at times.
The book and the tool differ, and I noticed the wax guard removal was not able to be done with the tool provided. I will contact customer service on how to do it, but a small difference that is confusing.
An older person would be very confused with how this is to be done. No extra wax guards are provided and only 1 set of each different size cones come with, so you'll need new wax guards fairly quickly.

Bought these for my wife who's def in one ear. And partially def in the other. Really only needed one but you can't by just one. And they were on sale so we thought we'd try them. They would make a high pitched squealing at times, like feedback. But there wasn't anything nearby to cause the feedback.

These amplifiers are so sensitive once placed behind the ear they make a continuous high-pitched sound. So, you spend half the day helping your family member adjust them. And if they move their head slightly the high-pitched sound continuous. It is so frustrating. And the company is of no help!!

Upon first look - the wires feel flimsy, and seem like they might break with repeated use. Besides which, the overall appearance of this hearing device, just seems lacking, almost not that of the most basic of quality standards for today's modern tech devices.
The charging/storage case is primo, however. Really nice. And you can clearly see the lights inside showing the device's charging status.
After the initial charging, when I first put the amplifiers on (after turning them on) they made a high-pitched beep when I touched the device with my fingers. It was not all that pleasant.
Now as far as how well these Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifiers work ... Such as, did I notice any improvement with sound clarity or loudness? Yes, and no. Everyday ambient environmental sounds outside my house in the morning when I let out the dogs, was amazing ... wow ... I loved the amplified sound of the birds and rustle of leaves in the trees.
As I set about my day, I drove to the store and turned the devices to their lowest setting, and the noise from the road/tires was so amplified that I could barely hear my music coming from the radio.
Once at my destination, after getting out of my car (the store's parking lot is on a busy street), I nearly tore the devices off my ears, the traffic passing by was so loud. Again, I had them at their lowest setting.
There is a button to switch from Normal to 'Noise Cancelling', but unfortunately, I did not hear any difference.
Although sometimes I don't like having to use an app for so many of the electronic 'techy' devices I own, this time I wish there was an app for these hearing amplifiers that would have a 'sound mixer/equalizer' setting to be able to adjust treble/bass, because to me the treble was way too high.
The sound being amplified to my ears was rather tinny and uncomfortable to my hearing. Also, the device still had that high-pitched beep whenever I tried to adjust the volume or switch to noise cancelling.
However, the fit of these Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifiers is quite comfortable. They are lightweight, and sit snugly on my ears.
Overall, they might be useful to some, but I find that they pick up too much of everything (ambient and environmental sounds) to actually be useful to hear a basic conversation.

A Hearing Device That Amplifies Sound

These amplifiers come in a nice charging case with a window to see if everything is charged, along with an extra set of batteries and a charging cable. You with need to supply the charging plug, if that is how you want to charge them. Otherwise, you could plug them into any USB port. It also comes with a little tool to clean the wax out of the amplifiers ends.
Make sure that they are fully charged before trying to use these amplifiers. Plug them in and make sure the green light is steady and not blinking. Once the green light is steady, they are ready to use.
Putting the ear tips on the individual amplifiers was not that easy. It took a few minutes to make sure the hole was aligned with the device and press them together. Once I found the correct size for my ear, they fit very comfortably.
You will need to make sure that these are in your ears correctly, if not, you will have the worst screeching noise coming from them that you will need to get them out of your ears immediately and might be discouraged from putting them back in. I would make sure to turn them on, set the volume at the lowest setting, then turn them back off before putting them into your ears to avoid the screeching noise from happening to you.
I tried to put them back into my ears correctly without the screeching noise or turning up the volume. I did hear a slight static noise or whishing sound and these amplifiers really didn’t seem to do a thing for me. These did amplify sound on the TV and made the whishing sound much more bearable.
When I go to potluck dinners, there is always a lot of background noise with people at other tables talking, it always made it difficult for me to hear what people were saying right across from me at the table. I wore these aids to the potluck last night and with so much noise in the background I didn’t hear the whishing sound and I could actually hear people at my table talking.
I will definitely be wearing these when I go to places where the background noise makes it difficult to hear people near you. The reason I wanted to get these is for this exact purpose and I can tell you that they do work for that.

Beurer - HA85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers – Silver
The hearing amplifiers fit well and look just like some of the newer hearing aids. They come with 4 sets of ear tips that can be mixed and matched if you require different ones in each side. They also include 2 extra batteries so in theory you should be able to use them continuously.
They have a very nice case that doubles as a charger for all 4 batteries, no need to remove a battery to recharge it. Form and fit are excellent, function is below what I would expect and hoped for. When inserted in your ear they block out just about all outside sound, this is good. However once turned on they amplify everything into a high frequency range. In this high frequency range is all the outside sound, you talking, someone else talking, birds outside, dogs barking outside 3 door down, the list goes on. If you crinkle paper or run water you’ll be treated to extremely loud popping and crackling, like the speaker in your ear is about to blow up.
I have used/tried all ear pieces, all sound setting (only 2) and all volume settings. Nothing I do removes the loudness of the amplified frequency range. Now let me be clear about something, they absolutely do work for amplifying sound. Pushing past the unbelievably loudness I was able to turn the volume on the TV down to the point where I was the only one who could actually hear and understand it. I could talk to my wife like she was setting next to me even when she was in the next room. But I am unable to turn them down to a point where the microphone stops picking up all the background noise. They really would be more useful if you could control the volume better.
They asked for testers that do not require hearing aids. I have been tested and I am right on the edge of needing them. I thought this would be a great medium, not quite hearing aids, but amplifying sounds so I could interact better.
I’m sorry to say these just don’t do that. These are way to loud for someone that is just on the edge of needing hearing aids. They sound like 1975 hearing aids. Loud and tinny with everything overblown.
If they would just allow the volume to be turned down more, they could be truly useful.
My bottom line is, these would be great for someone who is on a serious budget, but also has serious hearing loss. For the average person who just needs a little bit of help, these are way too much.

I received my Beurer Digital Hearing Amplifiers about a week ago and so far my experience has been ok at best. I want to be fair here since these are much cheaper than the typical hearing aid. I want to cover the good stuff first.
The charging case is great. Not only will it charge your amplifiers but it comes with 2 extra batteries and all 4 can charge at once. The hearing aids fit comfortably around the ear and there is a nice selection of inserts that go into the ear canal. The power and volume buttons are easily located even when they are on your ear. So the overall shape of the design and how it fits into your ear is solid. The charging case is fantastic. Now onto the key part of this review, how do they sound?
They definitely do amplify sound around you. There is no doubt about that and I was able to hear better with them in. This is where the problems start. When turned on there is a mild but constant hiss happening. I actually got used to this fairly quickly and if this was the only issue they would get 4*s. The part I really don’t get is why do they squeal? I can get them adjusted, sounding good and just push my glasses back up and they’ll squeal in my ear. Not a fan of that at all. Even on a lower volume setting I will get an annoying high pitched squeal from time to time that may amuse my dog, but not me.
I know that a really good pair of hearing aids can easily cost thousands. So these really do need to be graded on a curve. I’m also surrounded by electronics, wifi, blue tooth connections and the like. Maybe this contributes to the high pitched squeals? I don’t know, perhaps. They absolutely amplify sounds and fit nicely in the ear. This is one of those products that I wouldn’t be surprised to see 1* or 5* reviews on. If you need help hearing and are on a budget, I’d still probably recommend them to a friend to try.

I liked the fit of these by themselves, but there's when I try to wear my glasses or shades. Either the amplifier or glasses are getting knocked off.
Another pro is the charging case, but it's micro usb. Being able to charge all 4 batteries at the same time is a good idea.
The battery life was respectable, lasting a couple days with moderate use.
This also comes with silicone ear tips so you can find the right size, similar to a pair of earbuds.
These pick up voices very well so they are great for watching tv. When I wore these outside of the house, I was overwhelmed by the amount of things I was hearing, it was too much.
The thing I didn't like is when you power these on, you hear loud beeps which means it has been turned on. It was very annoying and I can do without that.
Also, there is no background noise, you will hear a scratchy humming sound. I didn't like it, but I got used to it after some time.
I wish there was an app that came with this so I can fine tune what I am hearing to suit my needs. If it did, I would have given it an extra star or two.

These Beurer digital hearing amplifiers come with 2 additional rechargeable batteries (very convenient), a charging storage box, a charging cord, 4 pairs of ear tips, a cleaning brush and a drying capsule. Everything can be conveniently stored in the compact charging box. The amplifiers are small and very lightweight and sit comfortably just behind my ear bringing the line with the tips over and inside my ears. Because they ate so lightweight, it appeared they would start relatively secure.
It is very easy to charge right out of the box and didn’t take long at all. I placed a pair of tips and set the amplifiers behind my ears with the tips inside. I turned them on and there was an awful screeching sound that sounded like it was piercing my head! I checked the volume - it was as low as it could go on both sides. I changed to different tips and still got that terrible screeching in my ears. I moved the tips to a different spot inside my ears. At that point, I got the screeching alternating with what sounded like a rushing river! They did seem to amplify the sound, but with the river constantly flowing through my ears, it was very difficult to make out anything.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend these Beurer H85 Digital Hearing Amplifiers. They didn’t work for me at all.

I was excited to get these to help with hearing a little better in random situations. Well they do amplify the sound like described, but there are other issues that will keep me from wearing them as often.
1. it is really too small to wrap around my ears completely. So they will work themselves out of my ear canal a few mins of head turning.
2. batteries are hard to swap out as it requires quite a but of pushing and pulling to get them off. I would imagine it being very difficult for a older person to have strength or dexterity to this much.
3. I made the mistake of turning them on be putting them in my ear. Almost lost my hearing with the feedback it made. If you put them in your ears and cover your ears, it will have a feedback loop. So please do not do that.
4. there is no extreme low setting on the volume, so it is low-high at its lowest part, which is too loud for someone with mild hearing issues.
5. the mode buttons are reversed (at least on mine) so the crowd mode does not do a good job of turning down the sound it gets (crowds, loud areas, etc) and the speak/low mode made it so even normal talking level was somewhat painful to hear.
6. depending on your hearing loss (high/mid/low) you would need a certain device to assist you with the missing portions. Well this one, in my opinion is too high for anyone to use. it cut out all the lows and mids in most environments I have tested in. leaving me with almost all high sounds which is what can cause hearing loss with enough volume and exposure.
7. device does not come with a charging brick, only a cable. Well I know most people with semi newer phones might have a spare one laying around. However, I can say from experience that older people either use a older phone (micro usb) or no cell phone at all. So how would they charge this device without a brick. Best option would to include a all in one plug with the cable attached, or a compatible brick.
I am sorry being harsh on this, but when something does not live up to the potential or meet minimal expectations I need to info others.

Thought a family member could use these but they were defective. Suggested time for charging was 2 hrs. after which we discovered one unit would not charge. It was necessary to return them to the store. This merchandise probably sat on the shelf for an extended amount of time.
