I'm not sure what happened here, I purchased this version initially as I was hoping being a cartridge it would be a solid complete port. Boy was I wrong.
The gameplay is for the most part intact if you dont mind the muddy graphics and frame rate/crashing issues. Upon inserting the cart I was greeted with a pretty big online update. Still this game needs alot of fixing.
The game crashed on me before I even reached my first save point the first time playing. I want to love this game so hard.
Developers are aware and said to be working on patches to fix it.
I purchased the PS4 version in the meantime and its exactly what i envisioned it to be.
Its pure perfection (PS4) Id hold off buying this till its fully patched. if you are able to buy on PS4 or XBOX X its a no brainer.
Im going to play it on PS4 and the original SOTN CastleVania on my Japanese Sega Saturn.

Bloodstained as a Kickstarter when launched on Switch had a poor framerate and even worse input lag. Input lag usually isn't a problem I notice, but at launch it was so sluggish there were seconds of wait between button presses and action seen on screen.
Now the game has undergone several patches and runs and looks so much better than before. As a spiritual successor to Castlevania Symphony of the Night, that game's producer has gone to improve this game in many ways while not being able to use the same source material. I really enjoy this game and think it was well made and I highly recommend it.

IgaVania at it’s finest, hampered by hardware

Purchased at launch after missing out on the Kickstarter, and 20 hours in, I am not disappointed in the game itself. The sheer amount of content, customization options, exploration, and beautiful design I’ve come to expect from an IgaVania is all here in spades. Lots of easter-eggs, side-quests, and crafting fill out the game, but sometimes can feel like busy-work. 505 has yet to release the July 15th patch, so my review is of the release version, do keep that in mind.
The negatives don’t make the game unplayable, but are disconcerting to have to put up with at first. There is a notable lag between button pushes and on-screen action. The graphics have taken a bit more of a hit on the Switch than I expected. Everything looks beautiful-but-muddy, and some graphical effects either glitch or are just broken (i.e. water effects). I believe the issues with this release are due to the late-stage change from Wii U to Switch, and weighing the blowback between a long delay and having to patch after release. I am confident these issues will be ironed out, but not confident on the time-frame. If these things are unacceptable, or portability is not an issue, I’d have to recommend another platform for now.
This is no Mighty No 9, Bloodstained is well worth the wait and the price. It just may be worth it more on another system right now.

I've been looking forward to this game for what seems like forever and it turned out great! It feels so much like playing Symphony of the Night again, but has its own twists and mechanics to keep it interesting. The Switch version has some bad slowdown occasionally and long load times. It can be annoying but doesn't take too much away from this otherwise awesome game.

If you dont have another console, this is a great option. Reason i say that is because the switch version has some hiccups but the developer did promise to iron these out with patches in the near future. The game is classic igavania in the vein of Symphony of the Night and the GBA and DS titles. Definitely pick this up if you're a fan of those

The frame rate on this one drops pretty significantly towards the end. Also it runs at a lower resolution when not docked. Hopefully they get some patches. The PS4 version is much better. Overall the game itself is phenominal and if you like Castlevania SOTN you will love this.

First and foremost the Switch version of this game has the most technical issues of any version. Having said that this is the most fun I've had with a new game in a while and I find myself spending 3-4 hours at a time playing. The enemies are varied and the power ups interesting. If you own a Switch or any console (or PC) pick this up.

Great game, but some technical problems

To begin, I've never played any Castlevania game, except for the very first one on the NES. I'm not familiar with Symphony of the Night or any other title similar to this one. This game caught my eye after I played Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon on PC.
First, the good. The game feels nice. Movement is great. You have a lot of weapons to choose from to change your play style a little bit. The levels are fun to look at and have a lot of secrets, like hidden items and rooms in walls. Hitting enemies is satisfying, bosses are fun, and there's a lot of things to do. Crafting, making food, and enhancing equipment will keep you busy for a while.
Then, we have some problems. Gameplay-wise, sometimes you get lost. It's not exactly super clear where you're supposed to go, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it can be time consuming. That's about the only complaint about the game itself. The biggest flaw about this game is the port itself.
You get 30fps on average, and in some areas such as the Tower of the Twin Dragon, the game gets really choppy. The graphics are also pretty mediocre. But my biggest problem with this game is that sometimes it crashes. It doesn't happen often, but I've crashed a few times, and I have to re-do everything from my last save. If you're not careful and find yourself in a long stretch in the game without saving, you could crash and lose all of your progress. So basically, save whenever you can and wherever you can. Hopefully this particular problem can be solved with patches and updates, because this is a really good game, but not a great port.
Overall, the core game itself is great. But it has its fair share of technical issues which makes me not able to rate it much higher than 3/5 at this time.

It's a good game. But it's a shame that the switch port is so buggy. It has a lot of frame rate issues. It's probably better to get on Xbox, PS or PC

It is everything that I wanted for a Castlevania game. The game play is great, lots of location to visit, the characters are interesting enough to keep you playing. The only thing is Switch version does suffer graphic down grade and some performance issue. But you get portability so keep that mind before you buy.

This game is like Castlevania: symphony of the night, mainly because it is made be the same creator. It is a side scrolling rpg. I bought this version because it is portable and can be played on my tv too. The Switch version is not as high def as the PS4 or Xbox one versions, but the trade off of having it on the go is worth it I think. Even though it has some flaws it is still a great game. The programmers said that they are working to improve the game in the near future with updates. Overall it is worth picking up!

Ritual of the Night could have been much better graphically, and the lag hinders the gameplay slightly. For collectors its probably worth it. For those who will be playing it - look at purchasing it for other platforms.

So far, I've gotten a good impression of this game. this is a 2d platformer with appealing graphics. The gameplay is easy to figure out, and it's good for quick 15 min sessions of playing. It has the essence of Castlevania games like dawn of sorrow or aria of sorrow so it fills that need you may have for a castlevania style of game. The story is unique as well, but I haven't advanced too far in the game to know how good it keeps delivering it.

I haven't played many of the old Castlevania games, but it was not required to enjoy Bloodstained. I had a fun time with the game play, exploring every nook of the castle, and upgrading abilities. My only problems with the game is were the graphic downgrade and input lag.

This is a great Metroidvania game and I'm having a blast playing it. RPG elements to level up including your character, skills and powers to collect. Not the longest game in the world but if you enjoy exploring, secrets and figuring out what to do next, this is the game for you. Switch version runs worse then PS4 and Xbox One but there is supposed to be a patch on the way to fix it. Check other reviews after 7/15/2019 to see if any issues have been addressed.

The game is good, I own the digital version on my xbox. The switch
version is not as good in picture quality as the Xbox One or Ps4. But
the portability is there for on the go. Hopefully there will be a updated patch to correct some of the frame rate issue.

The game itself is great. Yes, the graphics are reduced from the PS4 version, but that's to be expected on the Switch. Personally, I haven't experienced many glitches or slow downs, but a patch is expected the week of July 15th that should rectify those issues.

I got the Switch version for Bloodstained and they are working on some patches for it, as it is required. Overall the game works very well for the majority of the game, but it has one or two issues in an area or two. The frames per second will drop a little bit, and the visuals aren't as crisp as we see on the PS4 and PC. Thta said however the game is still beautiful and a lot of fun to play. Also the Switch version is the only one we get to take it on the go with us and that is the main reason I chose to go with this one. For those who grew up with Castlevania games and are fond of those, look no further for the most current experience in that genre provided by the same creator, in Bloodstained ritual of the night. A nice return to form from it's creator and a really cool metroidvania game to play on the Switch.
