    So far, so great!

I got EXTREMELY frustrated with the LG Stylo I had purchased just 2 months earlier (ugh, don't buy THAT phone!) so I had to cut my losses and find something else. I really wanted a Samsung Galaxy because the SIII I had for nearly 3 years had served me do well. (I dropped it and broke the screen finally). I went in to Best Buy and the sales associate told me about this phone. I was originally looking at the J3 but she talked me in to the J7. I have loved it from the get-go. Great camera, great sound and battery life. I love the screen size (after 40 the numbers get blurry people!) and it feels sturdy in my hand. Now I've only had it for 2.5 months, but I really like it. I would recommend this phone for sure!

    Decent phone for the price

I bought this phone not expecting much but I am actually impressed on how well it functions. Photos taken while in messenger is quite poor, while the actual camera feature isn't that bad. Over a duration of use, you will notice the phone starting to get warm (which seems like the norm for these devices). Kids play Minecraft and other games on this with no problem. Battery life is surprisingly good too. I can be on the internet all day on this phone with phone calls and taking pictures and it could last all the way into late night.

After 3 months, I'm extremely pleased with the Samsung J7 on Boost Mobile. It's a budget-priced phone, but has all the features I wanted, and is well-designed and performs well. Works great for web, email, streaming audio and video (in addition to voice & text). I got a good sale price at Best Buy. Also, the Boost service plan (Sprint network) is a real deal - just $30/mo. with auto-pay. Highly recommended! Major pluses: Large screen, sharp display, highly responsive, good hi-res camera, decent sound, plenty of RAM and disk space, accommodates large micro SD card, Android Marshmallow 6.0 and Samsung reliability..All for a budget price, on a low-cost network. Small drawbacks: Overall phone size is a bit large (6" x 3"), no LED indicator for charging/messages, and speaker is on back side. But those are minor quibbles.

    Great phone, but not perfect

I think this is a great phone, but it's missing a few features/apps by default that are included in most of the LG Android phones I've purchased (you have to download Samsung Music and Samsung Video from the Google Play Store to directly access your music and video files if stored on an SD Card; you can't use "multiple wallpapers" - one for each screen; there's no Data on/off switch - you have to go into the settings to turn it on and off; etc.). It has decent sound quality for watching music/videos. Sound seems a bit low at times when making calls on Boost service. The screen is great size, great quality. According to an app I used to check, it's not a true "1.4 Ghz Octacore" (it's a quad-core 1.36 Ghz + quad-core 998 Mhz) and it uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Adreno graphics chips (not Samsung's Exynos processor + MALI graphics). It's still a great phone, but if you're unsure about this one, try to wait for a good sale. It's hard to find a case for that fits properly because it's the "2015" design (at the time of this review, there is a Speck J7 case sold through Best Buy) but for a "J" series phone, it meets my needs and most of my expectations, just know it's a great phone, but not perfect.

I bought this phone a month ago and still runs flawless, but the specs in the bestbuy page are messed up, it has 720 p screen HD but not full HD 8 cores 1.4 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 13 MP rear camera with auto focus 5 MP selfie front camera both with LCD flashes. Both cameras are good, the response time of the phone is fast and the battery life is awesome i watched netflix for 10 straight hours and the battery still had like 15% and the temperature never rised too high either. Im not an expert in the phone area for me listening music, watching videos and receive and make phone calls are enough and this phone its exactly what i needed. One negative point for me: it doesnt have screen mirroring option, my 3 years older and cheaper phone has this option i dont know why this one dont but overall good phone for the price

    Nice!

    Posted .

After reading the specs on new tablets and phones ( i only use the tablet section of phones and use a per minute service for phones on a flip phone so the phone modual is not needed for my uses) this phone stands out above the others by far! It compares to the Samsung s6 in many ways and is much less expensive. I use these phones because Samsung used to make a small tablet called a PMP (personal music player that was a striped out cell phone) in a 5 inch display that was every thing these tablet phones have except the re was no phone modual and I like the concept and mine got wet and needed to be replaced. After best buy replacing the Samsung 5 pmp with only a tablet in the same price range, it made it very hard to keep nearby. I preferred to carry in my pocket, so I started looking into their pay as you go phones instead to have a every day carry device like the Samsung 5 pmp was. I have been using the Samsung s3 but it keeps locking up and destroying most of the data on the micro SD card and the navigon GPS app bugs out in part because of the the constant crashing. I wanted some thing better than the s3 and bought this j7 after buying my wife a virgin mobile j3 (no j7 for those users) and she likes it a lot compared to her older phone it replaced. This is a really nice phone and saves a lot of money even if you have to pay full price for it like I did. The 128gb micro sd card slot is a key factor as well as the 16gb (10gb user usable) internal memory and the huge upgrade is the 13 mp camera! The camera won't allow access to the external micro SD card tho and says since kit kat google won't allow this to happen ; ( I am guessing because of maybe all the lost data from that slot like my Samsung s3 had. It can be moved manually tho with es file explorer or on your computer, but is a disappointment non the less. Best Buy add claims this to be the 2016 version of this phone, but it not. The 2016 version has the speaker grill slots standing up and down instead of sideways like this phone has. It is false advertising and you do have to pay attention to this when buying a case for it. The USB cable is extra long and heavy duty and was a nice add-on/upgrade from Samsung being it is tethered to my PC when it is at home. The s3 would crash while plugged into my PC over and over every day. You could sit here and watch it happening. It wouldn't crash if it were turned off, but then you couldn't access the storage for files. The short USB cable was not a nice feature for it either. I think it's only 2 feet while the j7 USB cable is about 5 feet and white so it stands out amongst all the other cables here. The phone is much faster than the s3 and went from a 4.8 inch screen to a 5.5 inch screen and that seems giant now. I will be rooting it soon and there mods a plenty for it such as the speaker out put limitation Samsung put on it. Being able to turn off the unseeded apps that all use resources and battery is great too and control what app gets to to have access to privileged areas is always nice too. XDA Forums has it all if you like to control your hardware/software. The phone is a 5 star phone, but the memory access card limitation for the 13 mb of data used for each picture taken in it's highest quality and forced to fill up the internal memory card issue and being called a 2016 version when it's not (maybe for boost it's a 2016 version, but it is not a 2016 version j7 phone), gets a 4 star rating here. It's a keeper tho and the best there is for the money at this time. The OS is the latest so you won't out grow it if you root it for a long time. The full name of the phone is called SM-J700P. It will bother you to active it when you first turn it on, but it will go away and keep a note in the home page wall paper that it isn't active. The s3 never did this either, it just always wanted to do an update to the os instead. I wish Samsung would make the PMP type devices again so we aren't paying for moduals we don't need, but it will do and better than a tablet that won't fit your pocket. Hope his helps some of you while shopping for an upgrade.

    Pretty decent replacement for S4

This is a prettt nuce phone. I replaced my samsung galaxy s4 with it and I must say it's a heck of a lot better. Does everything I need to to do. Only complaints I have is the fact that I have no indication light for texts, emails or charging and the fact that I no longer have my S Beam. I was told it was a way better phone than my S3 and S4 yet, my S3 had S Beam.

This phone was an amazing phone. It worked great for me for almost 4 years. Even after screen cracked. Wish they would not have stopped selling them. Really liked this phone. Thank u Samsung. They don't make them like this anymore.

    Happy with it.

    Posted .

I have had the phone for a week. It does not come with an owner's manual but I found one on Samsung's website. The 5.5 inch screen is nice for viewing. It does make the phone rather large. It will still fit in a dress shirt pocket. I find that it is hard to operate with one hand because my fingers can't reach all the way to the other side but I have short fingers. I was afraid that with the large screen that it would go through its battery fast but that has not been an issue. I have used it fairly heavily and still had plenty of battery to make it through the day. The phone is considerably faster and more responsive when compared to my previous phone (LG Volt). The additional memory is also nice. The phone does come installed with a large number of apps. They use memory and cannot be uninstalled even if you do not want them. There are even a few apps on the phone that you can't see icons for or use. The app store shows the apps installed but says they are not compatible with the device. Boost's website also lists them as included apps. I assume this is an issue with this version of the phone running Marshmallow and Samsung still including the apps it did on the Lollipop version without regard to them working. However, even with the bloat there is considerable more storage on this phone. Some other nice features of this phone. I like that it can be used as a WI-Fi hotshop. The feature works well and is easy to setup and use. I also like that it has NFC ability which allows it to use with apps, like Android Pay, to use tap and pay for purchases. There is also a built-in FM tuner. The camera works okay and the front camera also has a flash. On the down side. I was surprised to find that the phone has no magnetometer. Therefore, magnetic compass apps and other apps that rely on a magnetometer will not work. There is no LED indicator light. The front flash can be used for a notification light if needed. Although the phone is running Marshmallow, it seems that Samsung has removed the ability to use adoptable storage. Phone call quality seems to be okay. In summary, I am happy with my purchase.

    Didn't Work For Me

    Posted .

I was excited to own this phone and I did like it but after three days I knew it wasn't for me. Remember, my issues are my issues and may not be an issue for you. When the phone is turned off and charging there is no light to let you know it's charging and when the charging is complete. When a notification is received (text, calendar, etc.) there is no light that blinks to inform you a notification has been received. A notification (text being most important for me) sound is not heard while playing music through wired earbuds, bluetooth earbuds, or bluetooth headphones. The notification sound does come through when nothing is playing through the headset but that doesn't do me any good. That was a huge let down as I always listen to music through my phone with either of these devices when out and about and the notification sounds where never heard over the music. Having a husband and children (although adults and one being special needs) makes it very important to respond to text right away. Someone at BB stated that that could have been tweaked somehow to work but I looked into everything I could on this phone including turning up the notification sound with no success. If there is a way for a customer to fix that issue please post it to the comment section of this review so someone else may be helped. This is a very nice phone, I had it in my wish list for a while, but I couldn't get past those issues. The camera focused very quickly and took nice photos with the flash on or off. Although it was tricky at times to get a steady focus up close while holding the phone with my hands. (Not a selfie, I was taking a pic of someone in a photograph to use as a contact photo.) I had to use a mini tripod and sit it on a flat surface to get a clear photo up close. Thank you and many Blessings.

The screen size, speed, memory and camera are all great. When it comes to the cons well it doesnt have a notification light but you can download an app for the flashlight as a notification light, hard to find a case, no video calling unless is from a 3rd party app. Overall a great phone and great price.

greatest value EVER in a smartphone

    |
    Posted .

I have several phones, including Samsung's flagship S7 edge and Apple's flagship iPhone 7 Plus. But this supposedly "mid-range" phone from Samsung is better, smoother, and FASTER than both of them at doing all the basic smartphone chores. Of course, it doesn't have many of the high-end bells & whistles that 99% of us never use anyways, but apart from that, this phone is inferior only in screen detail. I mean, it has a wonderfully large 5.5" HD screen that's beautiful and bright, but the screens on the S7 and iPhone 7 are certainly a cut above. Being that I paid $94.46 including tax for this phone during Black Friday weekend and that the S7 edge and iPhone 7 Plus are both $700+ phones, there is simply no way the average smartphone user can justify paying more than $600 extra (or over 7 times the price) for the extra boost in screen detail.

Bought this phone because my Galaxy S3 finally died. I was looking for an inexpensive phone to replace it. This phone was $225 and worth every penny. I love everything about this phone. When I compared it to my best friends Galaxy S7, it was very close in comparison but about 1/3 the price.

    Does everything I need

    Posted .

The phone does everything I need and very fast. My only issue is that the phone that I received is NOT a 2016. I only discovered this when I was home 2 days later searching the internet for cases and realized it's a 2015. I like the phone but it's not what it was supposed to be!! I went back to the store and got a "nothing we can do about it" routine. BAD BAD BAD Best Buy.

I really love this phone. Its much more responsive than my Stylo and the resolution (colors) are beautiful. Only thing I would warn people about is the screen is fragile. You should get a Tempered Glass Screen Protector as soon as possible. Keep the sticky one it comes with until you do or the screen will be scratched before you know it. Other than that., I'm in love.
