Was looking for a new dishwasher after our Kitchenaid conked out. We had been suffering with a stupid filter design that required daily emptying. We perpetually had a white layer of scum on everything as well. It seems like a growth chamber for bacteria. I was glad when the pump failed and we had to find a new dishwasher until I started looking. The picking are slim for obvious choices that will do the job without problems and without gimmicks (like Samsungs "wall of water"). I looked an looked.... spoke to people. Everything pointed to Bosch. Being close to $1k it was not a quick purchase. We went for maybe 4 or 5 months with no dishwasher at all. Eventually as Christmas rolled around, it was time to bite the bullet and make a decision. The sales associate at our Best Buy was helpful and gave us honest info. He also gave us a bit of a price break which helped to secure the deal. Part of why we went so long without a dishwasher is that I wanted a sale.... only to learn that Bosch really doesn't do sales. In all that time, there was never a sale. Only a free install from BB. Anyway, we choice our model because it has ball bearings in the top rack. Why not the bottom rack too, I'll never know. But this is a big deal because it makes them glide smoother. I wish we could have had the model with the time remaining projected down on the floor but that was too expensive. I like to know how much time is left but I have to open the door to find out. Oh well. The cleaning action so far is great. I realize only now how much effort we were putting in to get clean dishes with the KA. We don't do a thing now and we don't even have to do any kind of daily filter emptying. Woohoo! I thought the 3rd rack might be a gimmick but I actually prefer this to the basket. I lay all the silverware side by side and when I empty the machine, I can grab the handles instead of the tines or blades. THis is nice. Another difference is that this machine doesn't blow lids and plastic container around like the KA. I don't have to empty containers that flipped and I don't have to worry about laying lids on the 3rd rack either. Some people compain about drying. I can understand. Usually when you open the door for the first time, it seems damp. But after a minute it quickly dries out. I believe this is because they figured a different less energy intensive way to dry dishes than having a big heating element in there burning away for 30 minutes. It is more energy conservative which is fine with me. We used to shut off the heat and crack our door anyway to kind of the same affect. I would receommend this model. However, I had to take a star off because even Bosch has subscribed to pinching pennies on the quality of the unit. The handles and racks are just a touch flimsier than I wish.... They cheapened out on the bearings on the lower rack. And I can just tell this is not made to last into my retirement years. After my reserach, I believe that most dishwasher mfrs are making models to be nearly disposable. Its a shame this seems to be the American way. Not perfect but the best out there.

We needed something to replace an old Kenmore we had for 10+ years and decided upon the Bosch because it has such great ratings. The only bad reviews were about extra condensation due to the lack of a heating element. But, all the comments said if you left it alone, and didn’t open it once the cycle started, the condensation issue wouldn’t happen or would be minimal. Nope. We follow the directions to a T and everything is soaking wet every single time. The racks also are also bothersome. The prongs are too close to fit anything but plates well on the bottom rack. The middle rack has a lot of weird space that is too small/awkwardly formed for cups, especially if you put bowls in the middle section. The middle rack is also too short with the extra lid rack above it to fit anything taller that a 12-16oz cup. So, any travel mugs and sports/water bottles need to go on the bottom where they flop around on the short plate spikes. The top lid rack is great but only fits really short things well, like the lids to plastic containers or large flat utensils. If you lower the sides to fit slightly taller items (think small plastic containers for lunch boxes or the tops to travel mugs/water bottles) then you can’t even fit a typical tall water glass on the middle rack underneath it. To top it off, you can’t even put plates back to back in the bottom rack spaces unless you’ve pre-cleaned them really well. Otherwise, not enough water reaches the entire surface and you’re left with still-dirty dishes. It might say you can fit more but I find it fits far far less than our old Kenmore. On the plus side, it is very quiet. Overall, it is a very frustrating dishwasher. I end up hand washing the majority of our dishes now because it’s easier than the hassle of trying to get things to fit and then having to dry them all afterward. I would not purchase it again.

Quiet, but Can't Get the Basics Right

    Posted

Yes, this dishwasher is quiet, but it falls short in so many other ways I have to give it 1 star. I cannot believe I paid almost $1000 for this; it is absolutely not worth it. Yes it is quiet. I wanted a really quiet dishwasher, so I bought it. But it can’t get the basics right. One reason it is quiet is because - I assume - that it doesn’t have the vent that many dishwasher have. This brings me to the first major pain with this dishwasher. If you don’t open the door and prop it open after a cycle the steam doesn’t dissipate and instead condensates on everything, leaving your dishes wet. It doesn’t matter how long you wait, if you don’t open the door after the cycle finishes you will come back hours later to wet dishes. They could at least have worked round this fundamental flaw by alerting you when the dishwasher has finished, but this has been botched too. When the cycle completes, it makes a few quiet beeps, and then goes silent. These should quietly repeat periodically for a couple of hours until you open or turn it off. It’s way too easy to miss the existing beep. They boast that the dishwasher also has an “InfoLight”. Apparently this is a registered trademark. Did they also patent this? I really hope not. It’s garbage. The light shines when the dishwasher is on. Once the dishwasher is finished, the light goes off. So, given that I usually use a 1.5 hour cycle, for 22.5 hours per day, the light is off. Off means one of two things: the dishwasher has finished a cycle, or the dishwasher is off. If you don’t hear the finishing beeps, the light being off sure isn’t going to remind you to open the dishwasher. And remember that if you don’t open it immediately, you end up with wet dishes. This light could actually be useful if it turned GREEN and stayed on until you open it or turn it off. The only other thing the InfoLight does is flash if you open the dishwasher mid-cycle. If you close it again it will flash to alert you that you need to turn it back on. This is meant to be helpful, but what would be a LOT more helpful is to do what literally EVERY other dishwasher I’ve ever used is to automatically start up again once you close the door. Instead, for some inexplicable reason you have to press the resume button to resume. WHY? Finally, if you do open it midcycle or forget to turn it off after the cycle completes and have the door open in the horizontal position, the slightest brush of your clothing against the touch-sensitive buttons will activate them. This can change the cycle or some how screw up the mid cycle so that even if you do press resume and then close the door the red light will mysteriously continue to flash. With a few small software changes this dishwasher could be better. But I’m stuck with this expensive machine now. I really really wish I hadn’t bought it. DO NOT BUY!

I read the reviews on this site until i made my purchase so i thought i would leave mine. I have used this dishwasher for over a year now with daily use. The main concerns i read were not adequate drying, smelly, and dishes dont fit. 1st, i had my dishwasher professionally installed. Does it make a difference? Who knows. Inadequate drying does happen if you dont use rinse agent that the MANUAL suggests you do. Otherwise i have no problems. The smell is not a problem. My filter has to be cleaned manually which maybe i do once a month. But i rinse my dishes first. You have to clean the filter. If you know how to change the batteries in your remote you can easily clean this filter. Btw, i have put dishes in without rinsing and they come out clean....and dry. As for dishrs not fitting, this was my main concern before my purchase. If you adjust the racks you have no problems. I took my commonly used dishes to the store and tested the space. Large cereal bowls dont do well on the top rack. Other than that, 12in plates, baking sheets, tall glasses, 50+ pieces of silverware.. No problem. And if the red light on the floor isnt on, i dont know its running. It is quiet. My last dishwasher was a maytag that lasted 14 years. I hope this one will last.

Beautiful looking, works great, super quiet, efficient but after 4 months smells. Not a little but a lot. I checked online blogs for fixes and this appears to be an issue with these. My cousin bought one too around the same time and smell issue with hers too. I have tried cleaning it top to bottom, traps and jets cleaned, running vinegar followed by baking soda cycles, adjusted water hoses etc. Online there are a whole group of folks with this issue! I have not tried the warranty to have someone try to fix yet. From blogs it looked like people do that, they make 2-3 trips out to try to fix and then give up leaving it smelling so why even bother!!! I would not, repeat not recommend this. I had an old whirlpool for 10 years that I cleaned every 6 months to a year and never had a single odor. This thing I clean it, get the smell to go away and it comes back a week later. Sometimes even worse. Makes the plastic parts on travel mugs and water bottles taste like just the bad odor eminating from it when I open the door. Disgusting. Have had to start hand washing them. Apparently not every one has this issue because the reviews were awesome. Would return it in a heart beat if I could.....sickening to spend a grand on a stinky appliance. Very disappointed!!

Looks good and super quiet, but leaves film

After our 3rd leak from a KitchenAid dishwasher that was only 5 years old, we decided it was time replace it. After reading reviews we decided to give the Bosch a try. After delivery we opened it up to a rank smell. It seemed like the water used for testing the unit had sat in there for a while and produced a pungent odor. After a week of using the washer, the smell was better, but still present. Installation wasn't too bad except for the electrical. The Bosch requires that an electrical box be placed in a cabinet next to the washer. Our washer is not directly next to the sink and this made the cord quite short, which made installation a bit trickier. After installation we filled it with Jet Dry (it won't run without it) turned it on and were amazed at the silence. Washing time is about average. After the first load we noticed film on the glasses. We also had other issues. The top (3rd) shelf made the shelf below it too short to hold our glasses and while that shelf can hold alot of silverware, it didn't seem to keep ours well situated. The film seemed to improve after successive washings, but after a week there was still film on the glasses. Also as others have commented, the lack of heated drying leaves the plastic wet. We typically run the dish washer overnight, so it isn't convenient for us to open it up after the load completes. After spending a week with this dishwasher, we have decided to return it and try another one. We won't have another KitchenAid so I guess we are looking at a GE.

This is my second bosch dishwasher. the first did not perform as advertised. This one, though, does - pretty much as advertised. The manufacturer claims that you don't need to rinse the dishes before putting in the dishwasher. And in most cases, this held true. There have been a handful of times that this didn't work - when i made a meatloaf, the baked on remains didn't not get removed. I did not rinse baked on oatmeal and it cleaned it well But in general, it works flawlessly. Incredibly quiet. As for loading - although i've seen reviews people complaining about this, i've had no issues. In fact, i probably run my dishwasher more frequently as it's so easy to use and don't need to overload it. Only 1 complaint . sometimes after interrupting the cycle, you have to press the "resume" button - which you may forget and then the cycle wouldn't restart...there is a glowing red light that flashes telling you it's not running...but that is easily learned. I highly recommend this product

After reading reviews and talking with friends and neighbors that own this unit, we were happy to try out Bosch. We were hoping to get more than 2 years out of a dishwasher so we upgraded to this after wasting our time with a Maytag. The seal on a pump started leaking and it wasn't worth repairing. The Bosch is SUPER solid and quiet. The controls are very intuitive and the stainless steel is top notch. (So far after only a few weeks of use) The reason for not giving it 5 stars is the way you load dishes into the racks. It's so awkward! There's no efficient way to load this thing. There's no rhyme or reason to the flip up racks, the section that holds the glasses is oddly distributed and the bottom rack is every bit the same. The section for what I assume is bowls won't hold a cereal bowl. The only thing that fits on the bottom are plates and wide, shallow bowls. We have to put the small soup bowls on the top rack with the glasses...which leaves you less room for glasses! The tippy-top rack is pretty handy for spatulas, tongs, big spoons etc. So, if they could put some of that super solid engineering into coming up with a more efficient way to load this thing (even Maytag got that part right!) then I would give it 6 stars!

After going back and forth on two different brand dishwasher to purchase, we decided on the 800 series Bosch. Our initial concern was drying of dishes without heating elements. I am so glad to have bought the Bosch 800. The dishes dry almost completely, plastics have a few drops on them, but the quality if the wash if far better than any previous dishwasher I have ever owned. There is some installation concerns if you are replacing an existing unit that does not have plumbing and electrical connections in the Bosch locations. And the remote transformer that is needed to be installed outside the standard dishwasher cavity. With a few new holes in our cabinetry, we were able to install this with not too much trouble. The end result justified the additional install work. As a bonus, it is by far the quietest dishwasher I have seen.

I was hesitant to purchase a Bosch dishwasher because I have never owned anything by this company. This particular model was recommended by several people familiar with my requirements and it also received pretty good reviews across the board. First of all it is a beautiful appliance with very clean lines. I love that the controls are hidden but easily accessible. I also am happy that I can set various options to my needs. For instance making the signals louder or dimming the light that shines on the floor when the dishes are done. But most importantly it gets even the dirtiest dishes clean! Several people in the reviews I read were unhappy that it doesn't leave the dishes dry. This is not a problem for us. We would rather conserve energy and not have our dishes so hot we can't handle them at the end of the cycle. Besides, we don't empty the dishwasher until the following day and they are dry by then anyway. My husband loads our dishes every night and one function he really likes is the top slide out rack. He puts all our knives in there as well as other utensils I use for cooking. There is so much room we are usually able to use the "half load" option during the week. We are very happy with our Bosch! Oh and it's VERY quiet!

Was apprehensive about Bosch because some reviews said the insulation caused a terrible smell for the first week. My wife had her heart set on Bosch due to the stainless steel, roominess, top drawer, and overall quiet (decibel) rating. The unit is pricey but Best Buy had it competitively priced with installation and haul-away. We got the unit quickly after Thanksgiving. Zero smell issues and super quiet. Lots of room for various configurations. My three gripes are the narrow slots for silverware, long cycle times, and some cups, etc. pooling water and not drying thoroughly. These new units do not have a heating element, rather rely on ultra-hot water to dry. It’s recommended to leave the door slightly open once the cycle is complete to allow things to air-dry more thoroughly (let the condensation escape). Good luck with your new dishwasher purchase.

First impression: 42 dB is crazy quiet. Bought our home as a new construction in 2008 with a GE Quietpower 3. Very open floor plan, 1600 sq ft of hardwood so quiet was not so quiet. We only washed dishes at night, using the delay function to ensure we weren’t disturbed. We debated on the 39 dB Bosch vs the 42 dB but reading online reviews couldn’t justify the price difference. Now we are VERY happy with the 42 dB choice. It completely meets our needs. But I’m still trying to figure out how to load it efficiently. And there is no delay option. I guess we don’t need it now but it’s odd the option isn’t there. And we’re still playing with cycle options, very long by default. It’s a work in progress but if you think quiet is your primary purchase driver, go with this unit. You’re throwing away $ for 39 dB models.

My LG diswasher broke & just before the xmas holiday we bought Bosch - 800 Series diswasher. The first one that was installed there was a problem with the buttons. there was some electrial issue. Best buy right away sent us another dishwasher and it was installed without a problem. Everything works great. I look forward to washing my dishes. The dishwasher was topic of conversation during xmas greathering. Its sleeklooking, no fingerprints works great. I have to slap my hand to NOT rinse the dishes first. I have NEVER put dirty dishes in a diswasaher before. This was new to both my husband & me, My dishes have never come out shining. I actually put all my dishes in to make them sparkle. It is so quiet that once my son opened it in mid cycle and jumped. He was shocked he did not now it was on. He took the baby bottle and we just closed it and it continued from where ever it was intrupted. I would recommend this washer to anyone. I would buy Bosch again. Cleaning the filter is not a big deal. I really catches a lot and i was able to clean it with out a problem.

so i just bought SHPM78W55N dishwasher to replace my 2 year old Samsung Waterwall dishwasher which was a piece of total junk and wouldn't wash any dishes and for $1000 you would expect your dishes to come out sparkling clean not the case with this dishwasher,. they came out to service it and blamed it not cleaning on the temp of my water not being hot enough but the temp of my water and water heater is set at the max it can be set on. i cannot stick my hand under the hot water with out getting blisters from being burnt. I am 100% happy with my new bosch dishwasher . I purposely put some nasty dirty dishes in where normally i would wash them before putting them in but I just left everything caked on and nasty. when the cycle was done i was expecting to have to clean the dishes because of the left over food but they came out with no food or baked on anything. I am so happy. I got tired of washing my dishes after washing my dishes

I got this Bosch dishwasher because every review rates Bosch as the best dishwasher for the money. I can confirm it's whisper quiet and the red "working" light is needed because aside from the drain cycle, you can't hear this in operation. I was concerned because so many of the reviews flag drying as an issue. But if you use Rinse Aid then you won't have a problem. Cleaning wise it's AMAZING and it's like my dining and cooking utensils are factory new - didn't realize just how bad my old dishwasher was until I got the Bosch. Word of warning. Best Buy specs say this Dishwasher is app controlled. I was excited by this but it turns out Best Buy is publishing the WRONG specs. This is not an app-controlled dishwasher, no matter what Best Buy try and tell you.

I read reviews on pretty much every dishwasher out there and decided to go with the Bosch 800. I wanted a quality product without going overboard on the budget and after reading reviews on tons of dishwashers, the Bosch 800 was a constant 4 to 5 star on every website I looked at reviews for. The dishwasher is very quiet and does an excellent job of getting all the dishes and silverware sparkling clean. I didn't think the 3rd rack (for utensils and other small items) would be useful for me, but it really is great. I use the normal wash along the extra dry setting and all of my dishes are spotlessly clean and dry. This is an overall excellent dishwasher and you won't be disappointed in purchasing it. I also had Best Buy install my dishwasher and haul away my old dishwasher and I was very pleased with their services.

This is my second Bosch dishwasher. Moved into a new house and wanted to get one to replace the basic one included so got this model. The first one was dead on arrival although the installer didn't know that and had to come back twice and finally had to replace it. The replacement works but while I like it there are a few things strange. The top drawer is a great idea and i use it -- but i find that things on it sometimes don't get clean and it seems to block the tray below it from getting clean at times. The 'touch' panel is terrible. Sometimes it takes 20-30 secs of pressing to get it to acknowledge my touching it. If this is new then what will it be in 2-3 years? I hate to think. Overall it washes fine, it's very quiet and looks spectacular. I think i preferred my lower end model i had before though.

Bosch just came out with this dishwasher and I bought it sight unseen! I read reviews on others and because of Bosch's reputation we decided on this one. I'm so glad we did - the easy glide rack is so smooth and the adjustable rack is wonderful. Also love the third rack for all my long knives, spoons and other flat items. It is SO quiet we had to put our ear up to it to hear anything!! We left food that was baked on the casserole dish to test it - because it says not to rinse or scrub anything, and it came out sparkling clean!! We couldn't believe it. I would definitely recommend this dishwasher and would rate it higher if I could!

I decided to go all in on a dishwasher so months of reading reviews and led me to the Bosch 800. It was relatively easy to install and once it was up and running I could not believe how quiet this dishwasher was. I have a small kitchen and the living room is about 15ft away. I forgot the dishwasher was even running until it beeped to tell me it was done 2 hours later. The 3rd rack is 100% worth it and all of the different ways you can configure the other racks is incredible. You can adjust racks and those prong things without even thinking about it. If you’re in need of a new dishwasher and can afford the extra $$ for this - go no further because you have found your dishwasher right here.

The term "Condensation Drying" is a fancy way to say that it doesn't dry at all. Use all the setting it recommends and after a 3+ hour cycle, the dishes are still dripping wet. Let it set over night and the dishes are still dripping wet. I contacted their customer service line to see if they would buy it back from me after a few weeks. They refused. Then if you leave a bad review on their website they "Moderate" it. In other words they remove it so all you can see are happy reviews. Terrible dishwasher, terrible company. Getting a Kitchen Aid as soon as I can afford to swap out this piece of junk.
