When a recent power surge in our neighborhood took out a few of our appliances, our LG dishwasher fell victim.. Not wanting to deal with the repair service and inevitable delays associated with that, we decided to replace it.
Our model was the last of the LGs outside the Signature/Studio models to have interior lighting and that feature is important to us. For the replacement I wanted to try something different than what we had as the third rack layout and cleaning on the LG wasn't as good as I hoped. While I could make it work with careful loading of the middle rack, I wanted better. So machines with interior lights and better third rack cleaning basically came down to Bosch Benchmark or Miele 75XX series.
There is a $1.000 price delta between Bosch and Miele. Although the Miele has a rotating spray arm above the third rack unlike the Bosch's stationary spray head, we still decided to save the $1000 and go with Bosch. Now that we have the Benchmark model (SHP9PCM5N) installed and running for a few weeks I can say happily that we made a good choice. This machine cleans much better on the third rack and the crystal dry feature works hella better than our smoke-checked LG. The Bosch is very quiet. The pocket handle with the time remaining display projected down into it makes it convenient to check status. But most of all dishes come out of this machine just perfect. Shiny, dry, very clean. I have both the water softener and the rinse aid setting at about the middle using the app and they seem to be working fine. The rinse aid alert went off after 14 cycles. Filling that reservoir takes about 125ml of rinse aid. At this point I have no idea how long the dishwasher salt (for the built-in softener) will last but I will say it does not matter much because I made the decision not to buy dishwasher-specific salt. Instead I elected to purchase Diamond Crystal water softener salt (Solar Naturals) for $8 for a 40# bag vs paying $20 for a 2# box of dishwasher-specific salt you can only get online. Home water-softeners and dishwasher water-softeners both work on the same principle - resin-bead media requiring a periodic backwash with brine.
Honestly the quality of the frame and racks on the LG seem better, less loose and jangly than the Bosch, but when it comes to performance, the Bosch has the LG beat hands down.

After our KitchenAid went out and a 500 bill to attempt to fix it, we were left stranded with a 1500.00 paperweight. This has checked all our boxes of convenience and trust. The leak detection features are what made us go this direction ultimately. Too many horror stories or leaks from the others with costly kitchen repair bills.
Other features we love, the smart phone connection. Nice to be able to see the status on our phone or get alerts when it’s done.
Interior light, who knew we needed this right?!
Looks great!
Plenty of space for a variety of dishes.
The only thing I don’t like and it is by no stretch a deal breaker is there is a slight delay in pushing the buttons which makes you question if it took.

I can’t believe I waited so long for this upgrade! It’s so quiet you don’t even know it’s on! It was hard not to rinse the dishes before I loaded but once I tested it they came out spotless and completely dry. Even the plastic ware was dry. Takes a bit to learn to load it but I love this machine!

Bosch is the best no doubt BUT this is the top of the line unit and 38db is really really quite. I actually thought it wasn’t running and had to touch it to feel anything. And the cleanliness of the dishes after each load is what you expect to get after spending the money on this unit.
All dishwashers are NOT created equal. The difference between a $500 dishwasher and this one are SIGNIFICANT.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

I’m so happy with this dishwasher. I had a Samsung that didn’t even clean the dishes and all the plastics were breaking off. I was so frustrated. But this cleans great and there is a tray to put your silverware on (which took some getting used to), but now everything comes out so clean. I can’t even hear it running. I get a message on my phone when it’s done. I have stainless steel and it’s so easy to keep clean and I don’t need to use stainless steel cleaner anymore! I’m very happy with this purchase.

Although this is an extremely quiet dishwasher the silverware basket is only 1/4 the size of my old Bosh and the plates don’t fit as well as they should. I tried the old silverware try but the new design won’t allow it.

This is a very nice and quiet dishwasher. The display on the outside of the unit that tells you the time remaining is very useful. It cleans dishes well. The adjustable height of the top rack is very useful. I'm still getting used to loading it; it has a very different layout than my old KitchenAid. It dries very nicely, too. The app can give helpful, descriptive error messages, like if the lower arm is being blocked by something. The interior LED light is very nice.
Things I wish it had / improvements needed:
*A light that stays on that says whether the dishes inside are clean or dirty (something that's very useful when you have multiple family members using it). The outside timer only stays illuminated 10 minutes after completion.
*A more easily removable silverware tray. I prefer a basket to this (it does have a miniscule basket if wanted) because you can take the silverware to the drawer, instead of carrying them all out. Perhaps the slide out tray cleans them better / is more space efficient.
*For the buttons to lock out if the door is open all the way. Otherwise your legs bump the buttons as you're loading / unloading.
*My huge gripe and the reason for the low rating: To have the Rinse, tub clean, 1/2 load, eco, delay wash cycle, or tub clean available via another method than the app. They did not give any way to do this, not even via complicated button presses. The app requires your dishwasher to connect to Wi-Fi, and access the internet. However, Bosch does not have any guaranteed security updates for the app or the device itself. Anybody familiar with internet connected devices knows that once they lose support, they become security risks and maybe even cease to function. This device would not need to be in that case, if there was another way to access these functions. Otherwise, it seems like planned obsolescence is the goal. The lifespan of this unit may be limited by its software support.
*WPA3 support
*The power button is not responsive and it makes you think you haven't pushed it. Button presses aren't responsive in general at times. It seems like it's using a slow processor or something. Kind of strange that Pong from 1972 was more responsive.
*Plastic stuff on the top rack gets blown off pretty easily. There are some adjustments for the lower rack you can do in the app, but not the upper. Conversely, I am glad the upper rack is nice and powerful at cleaning, compared to my old unit.
*A manual way to see the rinse aid level. The only indication it's low is through the app.

Love this dishwasher! It has an interior light that is great when loading or unloading. Never thought I needed it, but it is helpful when you do not realize you dropped something in the bottom. It's so quiet and cleans really well. The shorter wash cycle is really appreciated especially in the holiday where you're doing a lot of dishes. It is so well built. I think this is going to last many years.

Smartest quietest dishwasher ever

This is easily one of the best dishwashers I have ever used. It is incredibly quiet, to the point where you can barely tell it is running, and impressively smart. The companion app lets you start or monitor wash cycles from your phone, customize settings, and even target specific cleaning zones for extra attention. It is also well-designed for homes with hard water, thanks to the built-in salt container that helps prevent mineral buildup; just top it off occasionally, and it keeps performing flawlessly.
Overall, the Bosch Benchmark Series combines top-tier cleaning performance, whisper-quiet operation, and smart convenience in a sleek, modern design. Highly recommended if you want premium quality and long-term reliability.

Overall, not very happy
* Reviews on this site are overwhelmingly glowing -- not sure what they're used to.
* Silverware rack is ridiculously, small and flimsy, especially compared to our 23 year old Kitchenaid - silverware cleaning cleaning is iffy
* The top *third* rack is of small of depth and of limited utility - pics show knives and silverware loaded with robotic precision - not practical on a daily basis - no way to remove the tray to take it to your silverware drawer - it sports a low-to-mid-quality glide mechanism.
* The middle rack is good with nice but not their 'premium glider' found on the model up (which is excellent) - not sure why they cheeped out on a 'Benchmark' model.
* The bottom rack has run of the mill nylon wheels and by day 3 was already binding a bit, not pulling smoothly. Again, this is 'Benchmark' hardware?
* There is no delay function on the control panel!! It's present on lower models - WHY? This is a major miss for those who have time dependent cheaper electricity plans. You *can* delay start only with the non-intuitive app having to dig down deep in the app and use a clunky 'spin wheel' method to select start time/date. UBER INCONVENIENT!
* It does have a projector that shows remaining time on your floor, but is hardly visible in daylight and poorly visible on our terracotta tiles. For some reason, the projector does NOT indicate i when the cycle's complete, again, WHY?
*The door mechanism seems somewhat flimsy compared to our 23 year old Kitchenaid Supurba.
* On the positive side I love the interior lighting (lights from the top front - although for some reason when I checked just now, it *isn't working now*, even though it's set to turn on when the door's open!!). It cleans and 'Crystal' drys dishes, pots and pans really well and spot free, at least when you use the recommended rinse aid. The salt feature for hard water requires special salt (not your run-of-the-mill water softener fare and there's no included sample), so there's that. I like the easily removable filter feature though the plastic seems cheep.
Overall, I'm not satisfied. We bought this sight unseen as there were no floor models within 50 miles of us , banking on the Benchmark name. Wish we'd opted for a similarly priced Kitchenaid

This Bosch Benchmark dishwasher is vey quiet, high build quality, and looks great. The most important quality about this dishwasher is that it cleans very well and the glassware comes out spotless. I do appreciate the interior light they design into it as it’s helpful in low light conditions. The versatile upper third rack adds extra space. The external timer is helpful to know when the cycle will finish. There is app that can control additional functions and settings other that are not on the control panel. The app also notifies you on your phone when the cycle is done and even lets you know when to refill the rinse aid JetDry. I would recommend this dishwasher.

I was amazed at both how quiet this dishwasher is and how well and easily it cleans dishes. I had an old dishwasher which worked, but I had just taken for granted i had to pre-rinse everything before loading. Now i don't have to do that at all and the dishes come out really clean even if i load the dishwasher and don't run it for a couple of days because it's not full yet. Saves a lot of time!

It’s been close to a month now and this is by far the best dishwasher we’ve owned. Everything is spotless. The water softener really works and Crystal Dry has been as good (if not better) than heating coils. I also have peace of mind with the leak prevention. It’s also pretty much silent when running. The only knock is the app sometimes doesn’t connect and doesn’t always make things easier.

This is such an upgrade for the house. It is nearly silent. Every load of dishes so far has been perfectly clean and completely dry. No water anywhere, including plastics. It is expensive. But for me, I will never buy another doshwasher again, so I went all out. I have zero regrets.
