The Bose Solo 5 is not perfect but almost. I needed a compact soundbar, and the Solo 5 is exactly the right size. Connecting the unit was a breeze--just a power cord and an optical audio cord. The output is very good for both music and speech. Setting up the universal remote to work with Dish was not overly complicated. Even though I gave it a 5star rating, I would like to mention several features that could be better: 1) There is no digital readout for volume. 2) There is no digital readout for the bass level, and it's just a more bass/less bass toggle. 3) There is no way to adjust the treble level at all. 4) I can't get the closed-captioning button to work, so I have to use the Dish remote to enable this feature. I am quite happy with this purchase.

Big improvement in sound vs TV. Amazing sound out of a 22" sound bar. Shows it best in movies and using the blue tooth for music from my iPhone. Also like the dialogue button mode. On setup I thought the remote was defective because I couldn't see the system buttons light up for programing. The problem was that the system buttons were lighting up but were very dim to see in a well light room. Keep that in mind when setting up. The remote is also quite busy with a lot of buttons. It will take time to learn all of their functions for different systems but I am up for the challenge.

Excellent small form factor sound bar

This sound bar is excellent. It is small and compact but packs a powerful punch of sound. It has fairly balanced sound as well with full base but not heavy and great mids. It is easy to hookup and comes with the optical cable in the box. The remote is huge for such a small device and really unnecessarily. My one grip would be that the soundbar doesnt support ARC HDMI so everytime I turn on the TV I also have to use the huge remote that comes with this soundbar to just power it on. For an affordable small form factor soundbar, this bose is excellent.

    Excellent small speaker. Disappointing remote.

This soundbar shows that bigger isn't always *that* much better. Picked up the soundbar to replace a much larger soundbar+subwoofer setup I had before which was totally overkill for our small living room. Really very pleased with the quality of the sound. The dialogue is very clear - and the dialogue function works well by boosting the treble and dialing back the bass to make words more clear. The sound is surprisingly full, crisp and clear. The bass is clean and tight, but not overpowering. The speaker also allows for very precise and fine tuning of volume - so you can adjust to get the volume just right. Sounds great playing music as well and TV and movies. Here are the things to keep in mind: * The bass is clear and clean - but keep your expectations in check. But this soundbar isn't going to shake the windows. If you want bass that rattles your chest, this isn't for you. The bass, again is adequate. But if you want your house to shake, you'll probably want a separate sub. * The remote is disappointing. The remote is big, heavy and clunky and kinda poorly designed. It stands out like a sore thumb - especially compared with the sleek speaker. The remote seems like an afterthought. I would have preferred a small thin device to just control the speaker itself - instead of this clumsy, universal remote. * No on-speaker controls. My older soundbar had volume controls on the speaker itself. That was handy. Not the case with this one - you need the remote for most functions (although it does have auto turn on and auto turn off). There is also no visual indicator of the volume level. Overall - a fantastic speaker. It is so much smaller than what I had before and the sound is great - especially for the size. The control is OK - but ugly and clunky. It would also be cool if the speaker allowed to you add a subwoofer in the future if you wanted to.

First off, keep in mind this is a very small soundbar with no subwoofer. That being said, the sound quality is what you would expect from Bose. Clean, crisp and good depth. It’s not going to blow you away when playing loud music, it is for watching TV and movies, it provides great sound. Would buy again for this purpose. If you want more, spend the extra $400 and get the set that has the subwoofer. For $159 (Best Buy Member Price) awesome value.

The soundbar sounds really good compared to my TV. Pretty good price for a Bose quality bar. There is a millisecond delay in the audio. You can tell when you have the TV and soundbar volume up simultaneously. There were two different boxes at best buy for this same soundbar. One had solid blue on the edge with the word Bose in white on it. The other was just plain white on all sides. I picked the plain white box and it came with the optical cord. Not sure if the other box contained the optical cord. It's six feet long.

The Bose Solo 5 TV soundbar sounds much better than any internal TV speakers, and has an impressive, rich, full, smooth sound signature for such a small soundbar. IMO, it's best suited for smaller spaces such as a bedroom, or office, but could work well in a living space depending on the size of the space and your expectations (it's not going to give you a home theater like experience). Only 4 stars, because it lacks HDMI inputs/pass-through, and it's premium price tag.

I'm an audiophile and am EXTREMELY picky about my speakers. I was looking for a sound bar for my 55' Samsung for a small living room and boy did this deliver! I had actually purchased the Sonos sound bar and subwoofer and took it back because the dialogue with the Solo 5 was much clearer! Not even close. Of course the bass isn't as powerful as the Sonos sub but you'd be surprised what comes out of this tiny titan! Keep in mind that this is not for big rooms. That being said, you won't be disappointed. Only critique is that the bracket for this bar (sold separately) isn't solid. If a kid were to hit it from underneath it could potentially come off the bracket and fall down. Other than that it's AWESOME!!! Great job BOSE!!!

Wow... Need to premise this by saying I am not a fan of BOSE products however it just so happens that I needed a cost efficient sound bar for my room as the speakers from my TV was not cutting it. PROS: Universal remote, has all the features you need to control your TV and more. I've seen that this is too advanced for some people, however if you need something more simple then I am unsure how you are going to get this hooked up to your TV. The Optic connection, the fact that it is an option is great. The Price, for the features it provides such as the voice clarity and the mimicking of a sub woofer in :BASS: mode this little sound bar is great and will do the job for a small living room or bed room. It packs a decent punch for the price and the features you are receiving. CONS: The speaker does not come with a mount. Yes, the price is great however I feel that for better customer service and incentives, BOSE should be including this even if it means raising the price a couple bucks on the sound bar. Yes, many people might not be using it to mount to their wall but it's the idea that the manufacturer cares about the customer experience. Subwoofer. Why does it not have a tiny sub-woofer? Sony currently is selling one with a built in subwoofer that has a larger range in volume however does not come with the aformentioned things that BOSE features. All in all I feel that the inclusion of a built in subwoofer and a mounting bracket with the item would have made this product a perfect 100/100. Having said that I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a entry level sound bar looking for quality sound on a soft price.

News or Music - Options on Remote

Hi Everyone, just wanted to add some details regarding the options/clarity switching between music/movies and the news/talk shows. Unfortunately Bose does not do justice to market it's own options. These are nice features should be images to call attention to them right on the box. TO ADJUST BASE When looking at the universal remote included you can change bass by pushing the TV button on the remote until all 6 buttons on the top row lit up, wait 3 (not two) green flashes on the speaker then push BASS and adjust up, down on VOLUME button. TO SITCH FROM MUSIC/MOVIES TO NEWS, TALK SHOWS Use the BUBBLE icon underneath the Bass button. The sounds will become much clearer for words when using this option. It would be great if Best Buy Associate would call attention to this as well.

I bought a new toshiba 50" tv and wanted to get a sound bar to enhance the sound so I read the reviews on this one. I am very happy with it's performance. It is not a powerful sound bar but that's not what I was looking for. I have bad hearing and it has a mode that allows you to enhance the speech of all programs and that is just what I needed. Very easy to set up and the remote is the best universal remote that I have ever had.

This Bose sound bar has amazing clear sound. That's mainly what you get since there's no subwoofer. I knew what I was getting into when I purchased it. Installation was easy and took less than 2 minutes after it was opened. Unfortunately I was disappointed because I wanted a little more bass. I ended up exchanging this for the JBL SB250. What a difference!!!

I bought this sound bar because we were tired of the poor sound quality of TV speakers and the difficulty to trying to connect the TV to a sound system. When this sound bar went on sale six months ago, I figured we could not go wrong with a Bose system and decided to make the purchase. We could not be happier with how the sound bar has worked for not only out TV but being able to connect tablets and other wireless devices has added a whole new range to our listening experiences. It is always difficult if not impossible to tell what a system will sound like when in the great open space of a store so I relied on the Bose name for this purchase was not disappointed. The only glitch we had was the optical output on the TV was not functioning. Great product for home use in a moderate size room.

    Exactly What We Needed

We love our big screen HD Smart TV mounted on the wall but have never been happy with all the sound blasting out of the back of the TV. It would bounce off the wall and deafen anyone in the kitchen, but where my wife would sit in the living room she couldn't hear the voices unless it was sky high, and it would blast me out of the room. If your looking for a theater surround sound, look further. But if your looking for a very high quality compact soundbar with excellent sound at a very reasonable price I highly recommend the Bose Solo 5.

    Best Soundbar with No Sub

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This soundbar is perfect for someone who does not desire to have a subwoofer. In my case I needed a soundbar for my TV on my patio but did not want a subwoofer sitting on the ground that occasionally gets wet and would just be in the way. Installation is very easy. I bought a bracket that attached to my TV mount and installed the Bose Soundbar flush with the TV. It appears that the speaker is a part of the TV. The sound difference is incredible compared to a regular TV speakers. I am very pleased with the bass as well. You can add more bass using the remote control. What really was a win is my original plan was to install speakers on my patio and hang them on the wall. I wanted to not only get better sound from my TV I needed to play music on my patio. This gives you both without all the clutter. Having this placed in a large patio area with only one wall behind it proves the bass response is superior. I am certain if this was placed in a smaller room the sound would be even better. Way to go Bose!

    Not enough bass

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this to replace an older soundbar that was not bluetooth, but, has a subwoofer. This BOSE soundbar has an integrated subwoofer, which I know does not deliver bass sound as well as a separate one. This hooked up easily and works well, but, it just does not offer enough bass sound, no matter how many times you try to turn it up. The dialogue is nice and clear, and can be enhanced by the "dialogue" option, which actually lowers the bass so background music is less prominent. But, the overall sound quality was not rich enough for me, and much less than I expected from a BOSE product. However, when I paired it w/my IPhone to listen to music, the music was very nice. It just didn't suit my main purpose thought, so, returned it. I think it would work very well in a bedroom environment, because you don't want bass booming around in the walls in bwtn bedrooms. You can keep the volume down enough not to travel, but, it will still be clear enough to hear very well.
