There's an adhesive plate you are supposed to stick to your phone but I don't like that. What I did was put the metal plate without the adhesive inside my cellphone case. So now when I get a new phone I can move the plate to the new phone and not deal with any sticky mess

It connects to the CD insert and stays put. Considering the CD is basically obsolete these days, unless you're an audiophile, this worked extremely well for her. She's been very happy!!
