    Great looking BASIC Coffee Maker

Hmm, a coffee maker with wifi! What? Well, lets get started. This is a 10 cup capacity coffee maker that while simple, is pretty gorgeous. Frankly, I kept wondering what the point of even adding wifi was, this is a device made to be seen and touched. While the design is basic coffee maker, I ensure this will wow anyone who sees it and make them think you have a much more premium and full featured device than is present. Once you get past the looks, you pretty much have controls for strength, temperature, and auto brew. Strength and temperature are straightforward, the auto brew is where this adds on a bit more than the normal. After setting the time on the coffee maker (yes, yet another kitchen device with a clock - but maybe the only one that actually uses it), you can configure a single time each day where the coffe maker will brew a select number of cups at the strength and temperature you desire. Keep in mind however that this is a volume going into a single cup and you'd still need to do some prep work yourself to make sure it's ready to brew that cup in the future. This work means grinding beans ahead of time (this doesn't do it) and so unless you're dedicated to do this right when you wake up then you're inevitably giving up some strength and taste for minor convenience. Where does the wifi come in? Well, at the most basic, it just auto sets the clock. Whew, saves that annoying dance of remembering how to set the clock when power goes out. Get the app, and then you can do a bit more - like have more than a single fixed daily schedule or have google/alexa integration to make it brew up a cup on command. I suppose it's nice to be able to start a brew from anyway in the home with an alexa device but I find that most of the times I'm giving verbal commands to the coffee maker, I'm actually in the kitchen within earshot of the coffee maker itself. Might it have been easier to just bake that into the coffee maker itself? And while I can see it being nice to combine the coffee maker into a more elaborate Alexa morning routine, it doesn't quite make sense when I'm doing half the work - prepping the beans, myself. Unfortunately, the "best" coffee experience doesn't involve beans soaking overnight or sitting ground waiting. It's more of an on-demand thing and the lack of ability to automate that part reduces the utility of the connected features. This is a relatively short review but the coffee maker does essentially two things well, brew (pre-ground) coffe and look good. The attempt at additional premium features however don't quite come together well in this package.

This high-end coffee maker has been a nice step up from my last one. Along with its elegant design and modern look, it features an excellent and distinguished coffee taste, and has the functionality of wifi included which I’ve always wanted. My previous coffee maker wasn’t cheap, but wasn’t that expensive either. First thing I did was make coffee on both my old machine and this one to do a taste test. I used the same amount of coffee, but this unit requests that you use water without Chlorine but have minerals, so I used spring water in this one and filtered water in my other one. I gave a blind taste to my girlfriend and she picked this one, I also agreed with her. It seemed to have a fuller, bolder flavor to it while the other seemed more slightly more watered down. Another thing I really liked about it is how quiet it is. I couldn’t even tell it was brewing to be honest, while my old one sounded like a mini locomotive train. There are preset options to pick when brewing, basically custom or Gold option which is what it thinks are ideal settings, just pick the amount of water you wish to brew. I have used the Gold and Bold options, and have been quite satisfied with both. The carafe keeps the coffee warm for up to two hours, its cool to the touch on the outside and hot on the inside. The SmartHQ app is pretty impressive, I wasn’t expecting much but it works great so far. It lets you know when the carafe is not on the coffee maker, allows you to start brewing, and you can setup your schedule to auto-brew. Auto-brew is great for weekdays when I wake up for work, and the manual brew is great for weekends when I can sleep in and start the coffee from bed. I have yet to try adding it to Google Home, but the app is plenty good for me so far. The instructions didn’t seem very thorough, but its pretty easy to figure everything out. I’ve even decided to start grinding coffee beans to get the best flavor out of this coffee maker. Its easy to clean, functional, and looks great in your kitchen.

So I'm in the group that thinks all the smart home mumbo jumbo are just gimmicks for the lazy...and I'm staring to become one of them. I mean, who wants to get up to turn off a light any more? Now I've got a smart coffee maker. My schedule for waking up is different based on the week and day when it's my turn to wait with my daughter for the bus so normal programmable coffee makers won't work for me. Sometimes I take too long getting ready that I don't have time to make my cup. Now, as long as I remember to fill the water and grinds, I can have my cup brewing while I get ready on demand. If you've never used a coffee maker that doesn't have a heating pad you're in for a treat. The vacuum sealed carafe can keep your coffee warm for a whole day without making it bitter by overcooking. The downside of the carafe is that if you're making less than 1/2 a carafe your coffee will come out cooler since the coffee loses heat as it heats up the inner liner of the carafe. The Cafe coffee maker has quite a few options for brewing. I like a strong cup of coffee with out much bitterness so I tend to go for light roasts and brew at low temps. The lowest the Cafe will go is 185, but it doesn't increase the brew time at the lower temperatures. So at 185 I get weaker coffee than I'd like so I have to bump it up. I settled on the gold setting since it's a good balance between bitterness and taste. The Cafe comes with a mesh reuseable filter but you can also use paper filters if you wish. Some feel they lose flavor with paper filters since they trap the oils from passing but they also keep the sludge out of the bottom of your carafe and cups. One feature I really wish they'd have added was the ability to use the brewer without the carafe and use a to-go cup instead. The carafe pushes on the release to let the water out, so unless you have a cup that can push the nib you'll get no coffee. Hopefully, if they haven't already, they'll sell an aftermarket cup to work with the Cafe. One feature I love is that it keeps its settings after a power failure and if you connect it to wifi it'll reset the time on its own. I'm glad they added these features. Other features I'd like in a future version will be the ability to control brew time so you can make "cold" coffee (actually warm but brewed 15min) and use any third party cup. For now the Cafe is my go to maker for giving me my morning hit on the way to work.

I've been using this coffee maker for about 2 weeks now and it's been wonderful. Design: This coffee maker is sleek. I love the brushed stainless look--it matches the rest of my appliances. It feels well built and durable. I'd say it's on the larger side for a coffee maker so if you are looking for a space saver, this is not for you. Coffee Quality: While I like the design and the smart features of this brewer, the actual coffee quality is where it truly shines. When I used locally roasted beans, the coffee was some of the best I ever had. It was one of the few times drinking coffee at home where i truly felt i was able to taste what was described on the tasting notes. I particularly like the "Gold" mode that brews to the SCA specifications. As a "control" for the experiment, i also tried inexpensive beans, and while i thought the coffee was relatively better, it was not as jaw-dropping as my experience with the local option. Smart Features: The smart features work as intended. The SmartHQ app was relatively easy to install and connect to the brewer. On the app you can set scheduled brew time. You can also customize brew settings and turn on the descale mode. Other notes: - The brewer includes both a mesh basket and paper filters. While I appreciate the reusability of the mesh filter, i found the paper filter to produce better tasting coffee. - The brewer has a disposable water filter, so you should expect to replace that every so often. If you like well-designed coffee makers and you are a coffee enthusiast, i believe you will enjoy this machine.

I love the look of this but thebfunctionality for me was not great. Makes a wonderful cup of coffee...but it does not stay hot. Yes, i can heat up the cup, but for $200 plus, it should stay hot longer than a few minutes. (Comparing to my Keurig). Its also just 10 cups and for whatever reason this does not fill up our to go ups as much as a 12 cup machine. Returned it reluctantly but just couldnt justify the cons for the price.

This is the best coffee maker we have ever owned. The coffee turns out a perfect cup every time. It is also very easy to clean. You can use paper filters or the reusable filter which is included. Very easy to use for everyone. The coffee stays warm without that burned taste for a long time. The coffee is so good you won’t leave a cup very long. I love that you can program how many cups you need so none of your coffee is wasted. This is a dream machine for the coffee enthusiast!

Given a choice of a mixed drink, water, soda, tea or any other drink, and I will choose coffee. Prior to getting the GE Café Coffee Maker, I had been using a moderately priced coffee maker at home. I had been looking forward to upgrading to a higher-end model to match the coffee I get at coffee shops for some time now. That is precisely why I took the opportunity to grab this GE Café model when it became available. First, let’s talk Wi-Fi. True, it has nothing directly to do with making coffee; however, it is nice to get a coffee maker with this capability. Why should we care about having network connectivity? Well, for me it’s simple convenience. I’ve lost track of how many times I have had to reset a blinking clock on my coffee maker, oven, or bedroom clock. Wi-Fi alleviates this annoying issue by pulling the correct local time from the Internet. To test that the time would reset correctly, I unplugged the unit after initially configuring it for Wi-Fi, then powered it on again. Once reconnected to our Wi-Fi, the coffee maker automatically showed local time. The Auto Brew option (which lets you program in a start time for the GE Café to begin brewing coffee) will not work properly if the unit’s time isn’t set to the correct time. Not exactly a life altering event, but it shows that having the correct time is essential. The coffee maker also has an accompanying app called SmartHQ. The combination of app and Wi-Fi permit you to control the coffee maker remotely. I prefer using the app to control when the coffee maker starts brewing coffee because I don’t always wake up at the same time each day. As such, I prep the GE Café Coffee Maker with water and coffee the evening before, and then remotely start the brewing process when I’m sufficiently awake but still in bed (TMI .. TMI) . Moving on, the coffee maker is very stylish with its brushed stainless-steel appearance. It is clearly the most attractive coffee maker I have ever owned. The controls are all nicely positioned on one side of the unit, allowing you to control the strength of the brew and its temperature. Then there’s the auto-brew button, which lets you program in a time that you want the coffee maker to start the next automated brewing process. And last but not least, there is a selector knob for setting adjustments. Very simply laid out and intuitive, yet high-class in appearance. The unit has four (4) brewing choices: Gold, Light, Medium, and Bold. Gold sets the brewing options to optimal levels, and it is the one I use. The temperature function allows you to specify how hot the resulting brew will be. You can adjust the temperature to between 185 degrees F and 205 degrees F. This feature only works with Light, Medium, and Bold strength settings. The Gold strength setting automatically controls the temperature for you. So, how does the coffee maker perform? Well, every cup thus far has been especially good. And brewing speed is so much quicker than with my old coffee maker, by a long shot. While I’m still occasionally play with the settings, so far Gold is working well for me. The flavor, in my opinion, is comparable to coffee I’ve had at high-end gourmet coffee shops – which says a lot. If you like coffee like I do, you’ll know that the quality of bean, how the bean is ground, your water source, the capabilities of the coffee maker, and whether the coffee maker has been kept in good order, all play a role in how the coffee is going to taste after brewing. For me, I’m comfortable in saying that the GE Café Coffee Maker is working to the highest standard. As such, I’m giving it a well-deserved 5 stars.

Lets get into it! I enjoy a good cup of coffee but i'm a functional drinker not a connoisseur. As such, i think most the features of this maker elude me. Let me explain. This is an expensive maker! With features that don't particularly make sense to me. The box list "personality" - 1 to 10 cups brew, Stainless Steel carafe, Precision Temp brew, Gold cup certified and finally Smart APP wifi function. Does it make a good cup of coffee - YES it most does. But lets break it down. Cost - most expensive home maker I have ever gotten. But I can' constitute the price. I do like the carafe over the heat plate but I have a cabinet of stainless steel cups in the cabinet. And its just me and the wife. Brew - it does specific temps and it is accurate to spec - Although i don't notice much of a difference here. I do like the 205 degree brew as I like hot coffee. It's still a drip brewer with a micro reusable filter. I think the bean scoop is larger than my previous maker thus a bolder taste with this maker. Wifi - I really don't understand this function. Basically, it gives you access to all the things you get on the front panel of the maker itself - with maybe some slight bit more convenience of scheduled brewing and water filter lifetime notification. Thats about it. I don't get it - I have to fill the maker with water/grounds AT the unit - why do I need the app? Design - It looks great sitting on the counter. But I have to pull the maker out to make my coffee. As the water container is attached and the lid flips UP. Same for the filter, The tops flip up and I can utilize them under the upper cabinets. I do like the plug wire loop on the bottom but that is defeated as I have to leave cable out to pull the maker out! Carafe - nice design, but also with flaws - Wife put it in backwards and it poured out the top! There is a small arrow notating the direction but its still goes on backward anyway!! The carafe does a good job of keeping the coffee hot for a bit of time. But I would prefer to just brew a fresh cup in a few hours for myself. And defeats the purpose if you are serving many people as they consume quickly. Overall - I can't really recommend this maker as a general maker for daily drinking - Maybe if you are a true coffee connoisseur and can tell the temp differences and the many brew strengths of light/Med/Bold/Gold - otherwise I think there are other cheaper options out there for you daily Great cup of coffee!!

I have tried 2 other high end very popular coffee makers that hit around the same price as this cafe (breville precision) & (mocca master) and by far this cafe has them beat. I love my coffee to hit me in the face, strong and HOT and this does both amazingly. On top of that, it looks beautiful while it does it. Although, I got the white one and I’m scared to get it dirty. Maybe the black one would have put me a little more at ease. My review is lacking a star and that’s because I’m having issues connecting it to my phone. I called customer service and the lady tried a couple things and still couldn’t get me connected, now I’m currently waiting for a tech to reach out to me and help me further.

I wasn't sure a new coffee maker would make a huge difference, but it did. Using the same amount of the same coffee, this machine makes a much better cup, whether it's 2 cups or 10. The coffee is much hotter initially, but that must be part of what makes it taste better. Also, the carafe keeps it warm for much longer than a glass pot. You don't have to measure the water going in, and the controls are easy and intuitive whether you use the app or not. The self-setting clock feature alone is worth connecting it to the Internet. it also looks nicer on the counter than most other machines, if that matters to you. If you like a good cup of coffee, it's more than worth it.

Got this for my mother in law to replace her broken coffee maker that was a pain to turn on. She loves the modern, clean look and the white color matches other items in the kitchen very well. Easy to use, can't say anything about the smart features because I haven't used them yet. The metal pot option looked super clean but I went for the glass instead for usability. It was a hit with everyone at her household, I picked this one for it's modern look. There was only one left around Christmas time when I bought it and I can see why!

I have owned this since Dec 2020. It has worked well and is reliable. Sometimes, I ran into issues with the grinds overflowing and making a mess, but that might have been due to the coffee itself. Hard to say. Can't put more than 3 scoops of coffee into it without it overfilling. It wasn't always like this, but has been this way for about 6 months. I've descaled it a few times. Easy process. Can't make more than 4 cups reliably at a time without grounds overfilling or coffee tasting watered down.

Makes a fantastic cup of coffee!

I am a member of Best Buy’s Technical Insider Network, TIN for short. Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews. This is the best cup of coffee that I have ever brewed. This is quite possibly the best cup of coffee I have ever had. This includes restaurants, name brands and others, and traditional home coffee makers. My go to for the last twelve years has been the k-cup style coffee maker. I have used everything from name brand pods, flavored pods, supermarket branded pods, and a refillable pod for use with flavored coffee not available in pre-packaged pods. Over the years, I have noticed the pre-packaged k-cups have gradually lost their flavor. I do not know why. I have also become more concerned with the wasteful packaging associated with k-cup coffee makers. I was delighted when given the opportunity to review, and revisit, a drip style maker such as the Café Drip 10. Setup: Unpacking the Café Drip 10 was easy. The box opens like clamshell, unwrap the coffee maker, and place on counter. Setup was a little more complicated than that but not much. The app was also easy to setup and link to the coffee maker. I did run into a slight issue entering my password. It took almost ten minutes for the app to tell me that it could not connect to the network because the password was bad. That is just bad programming and needs to be addressed in an update. First time prep was also simple to perform following the directions in the included manual. I recommend that you fill the reservoir and run at least a full 10 cups, coffee-less, cycle on Gold setting before you brew your first cup of coffee. This will ensure that the system is properly flushed out from anything that may be left over from the factory. The packaging is cardboard and Styrofoam bound together with glue and fabric. This is not the most eco friendly packaging that GE could have used. I will always accept a little inconvenience if it means I can easily recycle all the packaging. One of the reasons I moved to k-cups was to help limit my coffee consumption to 20 ounces a day. I could not do that easily with a traditional drip coffee maker. The more coffee I have the more coffee I drank. The Café Drip 10 changed that for me. First, the reservoir is labeled in easy to read cups and ounces. Second, I can simply fill the reservoir and program the amount of coffee I want using both the SmartHQ app and the controls on the coffee maker. Third, Café Drip 10 will use exactly the amount of water to brew the exact amount of coffee I programmed. Fourth, if the reservoir runs dry mid-brew, the coffee maker will stop the brewing process, flash an error message (H2O), and send out an audible chime to get my attention to add more water to the reservoir. Therefore, if I am a two-cup-of-coffee-in-the-morning drinker then I can program the machine to make exactly two cups of coffee. Or, if I have a travel mug then I can program to the exact ounces to fill that travel mug. The Café Drip 10 is fully programmable. The flexibility is beyond anything I imagined a coffee maker could do. The coffee maker can be programmed to brew coffee every day of the week at different times each day. Yes! I can program it per day instead of the traditional “every day is the same day” timer. During the week, I want my coffee maker to auto brew at 7am. On Saturday, I want to sleep in so start brewing at 8. Oh, and instead of 20 ounces of coffee make 30 because I bring my travel mug with me when I volunteer on Saturdays. That is amazing! Different schedules, amounts, and even temperatures for each day of the week! This can be programmed via both the SmartHQ app and via the coffee maker’s knobs and buttons. There is so much more I can say here but simply do not have room. The flexibility of this machine is amazing. Making Coffee: Traditional drip coffee makers focus the water on the center of the brewing compartment. But what about most of the coffee grounds that make up the perimeter? The Café Drip 10 has a solution. It uses a shower head that evenly disperses the water over the coffee grounds to maximize coverage and saturation. The results? An intensely flavorful pot of coffee. This was especially true with Target’s brand Buttered Caramel flavored coffee that I made the morning before in my k-cup pod. The difference was night and day. It was like I finally got the corrective glasses I needed enjoy my morning coffee! Filters: You can use a #4 filter if you want. I chose to use the included reusable mesh basket filter. In my opinion, the included filter makes a better cup. There is also a carbon filter that rests in the reservoir. One of the reasons I switched to k-cup is because the carbon filter makes the coffee taste better. And up until now, I have never seen this on a drip coffee maker. Plus, this is the same filter that is used with k-cup style machines. This is a good thing because it is common enough that I will be able to find it anywhere. Water: The instruction manual states that coffee with chemicals in it, such a chlorine, should be avoided. Purified water, such as reverse osmosis water, should also be avoided. Chlorine will color the flavor. And filtered water does not have the minerals that will enhance your coffee. I am not one to purchase mineral water. However, I do not live in a part of the country where my water is not heavily chlorinated. My advice: test your machine with different types of water and go with what is best for you. The Café Drip 10 does have a descaling mode. This will clean and flush build-up out of the machine. I have not owned the machine long enough to test this yet. Temperature: I went straight for the “Gold” setting. I only drink flavored coffee. The coffee came out at just the right temperature for me. The flavor popped! The machine is capable of brewing at a range of 185 to 205°F. You can also choose the strength of your coffee: Light, Medium, Bold. This is great for those of you who want to experiment with temperature and flavor extraction. If you are like me, and want to keep most mornings simple, then the pre-sets that make up Gold will be perfect. If, however, you live above 5000 Feet, then you will want to refer to the user’s manual. The manually specifically states not to use Gold over 5000 feet. Brewing the right amount: For whatever reason, the Café Drip 10 believes a cup of a coffee is 4.5 ounces. Maybe this is the size of little cappuccino cups. I would not know because I do not drink cappuccino. Just a bit too strong for my liking. My coffee mugs are eight ounces. My travel mug is larger still. I recommend using the ounces setting when programming the coffee maker either through the controls or through the SmartHQ app. This allows for greater accuracy. The measuring scoop: I am glad that GE included a measuring scoop. It is a bit of a letdown that the measuring scoop is plastic and not of an equal grade stainless steel as the coffee maker. Maybe include one that matches the coffee maker’s accent color? I think GE missed a great opportunity to maintain that premium experience for the whole product. Unpacking is super easy. Setup is super easy. Everything about the coffee maker screams “premium experience!” And then there is this plastic measuring scoop. Why GE, why? The Carafe: GE engineers did an amazing job with the carafe. It is as functional as it is beautiful to look at. I love the stainless steel with nickel highlights. The carafe will also keep your coffee hot all day long. I tested eight hours with a full ten cups of freshly brewed hot water. I do not drink coffee late in the day so did not want to waste good coffee grounds on a temperature test. I touched the carafe throughout the day to see how much heat was escaping. The top of the carafe was comfortably warm to the touch but not hot. The side walls were cool to the touch. Using a temperature gun, I recorded 145 degrees in the mug after eight hours in the carafe. My wife pulled out a meat thermometer. Same reading. Finally, I stuck my finger in the cup. The water was hot but not scalding hot. I could see enjoying a late afternoon cup of coffee at this temperature. Final thoughts: I love this coffee maker. My coffee tastes great. I have the flexibility to program a unique time, temperature, strength, and amount for each day of the week. I go with the optimized default of “Gold” but I do have the option to take a more hands on approach to my coffee making. The filter system is great. I think the shower head does an excellent job of evenly distributing the water through the grounds. The Café Drip 10 has a real premium presentation that looks great on my counter. The carafe keeps my coffee hot all day long. With the exception of the product packaging, there is less landfill waste than with my k-cup style machine. And my coffee tastes great. Did I already mention that?

    Such a surprising upgrade!

I did not know that a coffee maker would make such a difference in the flavor. The coffee being dispensed in a thermos instead of on a glass pitcher that sets on a burner helps maintain the flavor for hours. Definitely recommend.

    Terrible customer service

It worked great initially and made really good coffee. It stopped working about a month after we bought it (something electrical- it turns on then immediately loses power and clicks off). Best Buy wouldn’t take it back since we’d just passed the thirty day mark and told us to contact GE’s customer service support. Every time we called or emailed they would say we would be receiving a voucher to replace it but then a few days would pass and we would get a request for more information (the serial number, then it was a picture, then a video of it not working, then the original picture wasn’t clear enough for them to read, etc). This has lasted for almost a month. Now they have sent us a FedEx label to ship it back but we have to wait for their box to arrive. Which will apparently take 10-14 more business days. Then we won’t be getting our new coffee pot voucher until then get our old pot. So now we will be going well over a month without a functioning coffee pot. With three kids.

Attractive coffe maker on your counter everyone complements the way it looks. Makes a great cup of coffee as well. But then it tells you time to descale you do you follow the instructions but the descale notice never stops That attractive appliance now becomes annoying

If the Descale light stays on even after following the instructions for descaling, we recommend trying a reset by simply unplugging and plugging appliance back in. If the issue persists, please see page 16 of the Owner’s Manual for warranty information. If you are out of warranty, please reach out to us via private message on Facebook or Instagram so that we may learn more about your situation. I was looking for a coffee brewer that would make a HOT pot of coffee with excellent taste. I found it in this product. The design makes it a great counter top addition. I have not setup the wifi and do not intend to use that feature. So far I am very satisfied with this purchase.
