beautiful espresso machine!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first time I have used an espresso machine and the truth is that I am more than happy with this product. I like to enjoy my hot coffee in the morning before I go to work and I must say that being able to enjoy an espresso in the morning (and also at any time of the day) is an incredible satisfaction. Despite not having the knowledge of a barista or an expert in this class of products, preparation is too easy if the proper steps are followed. Aesthetically, the espresso machine looks fantastic, it has a stainless steel finish that gives it an unparalleled elegance, the size I think is ideal to be able to place it in the kitchen without using too much space. The accessories that are included in the box in my opinion are more than enough to connect the espresso machine and start using it right away. Once unpacked and having cleaned all the accessories and the machine for the first time, all you have to do is follow the instructions, which are actually very simple to start preparing your perfect espresso. One of the things that I like a lot is that it has the function of being able to foam with milk through steam. Single or double shot depending on the taste of each person and you can add milk with foam. It has a water tank on the back and a tray on the front for the waste generated after each use. It has a rotating wheel with indicator lights to be able to select the correct function, be it hot water, steam, or one or two shots. It is easy to clean and although it requires a little practice to perfect the preparation of an espresso, it ends up being a very convenient espresso machine due to its size, effectiveness and practicality, I would definitely recommend this espresso machine to all those who like me love it. coffee.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Leaks like others say, has plastic inserts in the portafilter and rubber tongues in the group head to hold the portafilter, instead of stainless steel. The portafilter splatters, coffee doesn't come out smoothly because there are no nozzles, just a big opening in the portafilter. Finally, visit breville.co.uk and over there it's is being sold as a Breville machine. Is there anything genuine anymore?

Look Out Coffee Shops!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been wanting an espresso machine for a while now but have always been intimidated by them. They look complicated but according to others they really aren't once you're familiar with them. The Calphalon caught my eye because it looked simple and I also read from previous testers on the Calphalon website that this one is really good for beginners. First off, the machine makes great espresso. I'm having so much fun making my own drinks and trying different types of grounds and thus far everything has tasted so good. Of course a lot of it depends on you but more on that later. The machine itself looks really clean and nice. It's fairly compact all things considered although it does have a bit of weight to it. It has a place to store the cord inside and a place to put a few of the accessories (but not all, just the pin and filters) so as long as you have room in your cabinet along with the extra items, storing it when not in use is still a viable option. For those who are more familiar with these machines, you may be happy to know the group head and portafilter are commercial sized (58mm) and that it's a 15 BAR pump which I read is considered the top of the game. I'd say the water reservoir is a very respectable size too and I do not feel like I'm refilling it that often. I was surprised when the booklet said to use tap water as well. I would had assumed you would need filtered water only but it's very convenient and helps conserve the filter on my fridge which we already use constantly for regular coffee. I also conserve water in the reservoir by warming up your mug and the group head under hot water from your sink instead of using the "1 shot" like the booklet suggests and then place the mug or glass on the warming area up top. I definitely have to give props to the instruction booklet that came with it. Not only is it very clear and detailed on how to use the machine, but it also explains how it all works so you understand the 'why' aspect as well. At first, reading through it may seem a bit daunting but don't fret. The only part I had trouble understanding is the tamping of the grinds to the recommended pound force. They say do 20-40lb pounds of force depending on the shot size however I have no idea what that translates into arm strength. After looking up tips online it was explained that the pressure isn't what's important, it's making sure the dose is evenly compacted with no gaps or pockets. With that in mind it made a lot of sense and was easy to do. I've tamped my coffee perfectly each time. It doesn't come with a measuring spoon but fortunately one that came with my regular coffee machine works perfectly. Generally speaking there is work to be done as the machine only does half of it. But like the book even says, practice makes perfect. At the same time, this does allow the user to fully customize to their taste including an option to program your own shot volume which is probably something I may use one day. Continuing to try out different coffees is going to be the most fun. I read any espresso, dark roast or french roast coffee will work the best but you can use anything you want. I made a decaf medium roast double shot Americano that worked out great. I would say learning to do the milk steaming/frothing took the most practice. The high pitched sound of it surely punishes you if you're doing it wrong. The more I used the machine the more I started making recipe notes for things like ounces of milk and ratios for each drink listed in the booklet. I just wish the stainless steel milk jug had measurements written on it so I didn't have to add a measuring glass to the list of items to clean after. Overall I only have two minor issues. First is the warming area doesn't really get that significantly warm. Secondly, it takes some power to insert and release the group head. There is really no good place to hold on to the machine when doing so but a fold out handle on the side would have been amazing. My real rating would be 4.5 starts but since we can't do half stars, I think it does enough to earn a 5. PROS * Convenient size * Great instruction booklet full of pictures * Can be stored CONS * Accessory compartment only holds smallest items (only half a con, really)

Made a new espresso friend
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had this machine for a little over a week now and absolutely enjoy the taste of the espressos this machine can push out. The key is to not pack (extensively force) the bowl, the tool is there to pack and tap the coffee down. When using the wand to create the froth, I have found that it can be a little noisy, common for most espresso machines (YES, even the more expensive ones for household use) as the noise will vary. This has slowed my trips to more common coffee shops being able to get my fix at home. Highly recommend this budget friendly espresso machine, Calphalon has not let me down thus far with any of their products.

Simple – Effective – Delicious
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While it seems somewhat ironic to call an espresso machine simple due to its inherently complex nature and the work that needs to go into making an espresso, this machine manages to make the process much less daunting. There is a dial on the front that lets you differentiate between whether you want to make 1-shot, 2-shots, steam, and hot water. Other than that, the machine does pretty much all the heavy lifting. You still need to go through the somewhat intensive process of preparing the espresso for the machine, including loading and pressing the grounds into the portafilter, steaming the milk (if desired), and cleaning the machine. All-in-all though, it is still a largely smooth affair. In terms of design, the machine is relatively compact, with a stainless-steel finish that looks great in almost any kitchen. The majority of the body is still plastic, but it feels sturdy, blends well with the premium look of the machine, and adds to the overall aesthetic well. In total, it weighs almost 15 pounds and feels well-constructed. With regards to performance, there are no complaints from me. This is our first espresso machine, and so it certainly takes some time getting used to the espresso-making process, but once acclimated accordingly, the results are delicious. The 15-bar pump is mostly quiet and very effectively makes the espresso with appropriate heat and color one would expect from a restaurant-grade espresso machine. For die-hards, there may be less control that one would prefer, but with performance this good, its hard to complain. Thankfully, among all of this, Calphalon provides great step-by-step instructions for getting going with the machine and for how to make the perfect espresso. In today’s day and age, such a comprehensive set of instructions is a welcome addition. In terms of complaints, the only thing that has been a sticking point is clean-up, which can also take a bit of time at first, but once you get into the routine of cleaning the steamer out, wiping the machine down, and cleaning the portafilter, you quickly adjust. If you’re a big fan of espressos, this is an extremely easy to recommend machine.

You must try this!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know a whole lot about the different types of coffee but my son has been begging me for an espresso machine for months, so when I saw this one I decided to try it out. I was initially drawn to the size, because most machines you see in coffee shops are so big and bulky. This one is wonderfully compact and fits perfectly in the corner on our kitchen counter. It is also very lightweight, so it's easy to move around to clean under it. The initial instructions were very intimidating to me. I had my son follow the process first (he's 17 and way more tech savvy than me) and told him I wanted him to walk me through it. Well, he slept late the next morning so I was on my own. And I was very pleasantly surprised that it was so easy! There are quite a few steps to making the perfect espresso, but the result is an amazingly smooth, delicious coffee drink that even I couldn't get enough of. I am not a fan of traditional coffee brewed in a drip machine because the coffee flavor is just not appealing to me, and I'd rather not have to add all the sugar and other things to cover that flavor. The espresso machine does not have that strong coffee flavor, and it is so smooth and mellow that I am able to drink it without adding anything else if I want to. One of my most favorite things is that the cleanup is so easy. It has a drip tray at the bottom that catches stray drops or the occasional overflow when I'm not paying attention. The basket cleans up easily, and the steaming cup takes no effort to clean. The only downside is I wish it came with a second steaming cup! It would be so nice to steam the milk while the espresso is brewing and to be able to combine it all at once. However, this is a small expense, and definitely not enough to influence the decision to purchase the espresso maker, so I am just going to order another one. Overall you can't go wrong if you are looking for a simple, one shot or two shot espresso machine that doesn't take up a lot of room and makes your drinks in 5 minutes or less. Go buy it!

Simply Espresso
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Calphalon Temp iQ PrecisionHeat Espresso Machine is a great entry level espresso machine. It is lightweight and has a small footprint. Controls and functions are simple to use and minimizes user error. Has basically five settings, six if you include the on/off toggle switch. Being small and lightweight is one of it's negative points also, being that it is easily moved when turning the portafilter. The portafilter is a nice oversized unit, which allows for a bigger espresso puck. The tamper is made of plastic, it should really be made of metal. Being plastic it will eventually wear out and get gouged. The simplicity of the settings of single or double shot, ready, steam, or water makes creating an espresso shot "almost" fool proof. The tamping force is the variable where it could all go wrong. I am thinking if you practice enough, you will get the right tamping force consistently. Too little pressure and your espresso shot won't get infused and just run straight through with watery extraction. Too much force and and your shot will be next to nothing. Just about right and you get the nice extraction with crema on top. So work on consistent tamping and you will get nice and consistent espresso shot. Being an entry level model, it doesn't have a grinder, so you will have to use pre ground beans or purchase a separate bean grinder. It does have a built in steam wand for frothing and heating and also has a hot water dispenser for turning your espresso shot into an Americano. It also comes with metal frothing pitcher/cup. Overall this is a great entry level espresso machine. Minimal functions, single, double, water, steam and the ready/standbysetting. Once you get consistent tamping down, you are going to get a consistent 15psi shot of espresso. Nice little unit for the at home barista!
