Maybe the one in the camera was a defect, but there is no reason this battery should be needing replaced.

The battery is made by Canon and sold for almost $100 for a 1 inch by 1 inch battery; it does have circuits in it to communicate with the video camera it's charge status; whereas the other batters that fit do not communicate with the camera on charge status.
I would recommend this to a friend

I was very disappointed that the battery that came with the camera only lasted 30 minutes. This battery lasts 2 hours. I just got home from Hawaii and it did very well at keeping the camera running daily.

Purchased an extra battery for my new camera. All new users should do this because you never know when your battery might die and necessitate a battery change when capturing family activities. Better to be prepared. Reason for 4-stars is the ~$100 price.

I bought this battery as a spare and because the description stated battery charger included. The product shipped was the battery only with no charger. Customer service is shipping me a battery charger. Stay tuned.
