    Good basic scanner

My system needs are basic, but primarily for this scanner to move efficiently between a 32 bit HP Pavillion on XP Home, SP3 and a new 64 bit Dell Studio XPS desktop on Win 7 Home Premium. Having had a negative twain experience setting up my several years old Canon LIDE600, I called Canon for set up help with the two environments. While Win7 is in its first year, peripherals requiring updated drivers, I suggest setup care in similar situations. Canon also suggested I use care by closing down one computer before detaching the scanner from one and preferably connecting the scanner before powering up the computer it is to be attached to. Canon also suggested always attaching the scanner to the same usb ports on each computer. While this all may seem overkill, it lessens the possibility of conflicts. Otherwise, this scanner will meet my basic scanning needs with adequate software, including ocr. I do genealogy, the scanner will often travel with my laptop using the handy box carrying case provided. Don't forget to lock it!

I brought this scanner to begin scanning old photos and to create PDF files for work, and it does a great job doing those things. It is compact, easy to set up,, and very easy to use. Definitely a great buy for the price.

    Excellent for infrequent user

Bought this for my wife who wants to digitize photos from birthdays, vacations, holidays, family gatherings, etc. So far, she has scanned 5000+ photos and she couldn't be happier because this scanner is simple and easy to use. Once you have the settings (file name, folder, etc), you only have to press Scan once for every photo and it scans and saves for you. We have had HP, Microscan and Epson over the past 8 years and this is by far the easiest scanner to set up and use. The Microscan was a piece of junk and the HP was over-rated. The only downside is that this scanner is relatively slow to scan but for $60+, we can't complain.

I purchased this primarily for Genealogy purposes although it is great for any usage. It is lightweight so it can be carried with you when researching saving on copy fees. It is also great for taking to family reunions to collect old photos from other family members. The flatbed feature is great if people do not want to remove the photo from their album. It has a lock so the mechanism is not endangered when traveling.
