I took this out to take pictures of a sporting event. Works great except that the only thing it is good for. Not enough zoom for wildlife photography and doesn't take a lot of light in. Still recommend this though if you need an upgrade in the zoom feature from your kit lens.

I bought this Canon IS STM 55-250 lens for a Canon SL1/100D camera that came with an IS STM 18-55 lens. It is a nice complement to that. I usually grab the camera and one or the other lens depending on what I will think will work best in the situation. This lens' broad range means that I don't need to switch lenses in the middle of a shooting situation (and miss shots while doing so).

Honestly, I love this lens. I use it for far away shots (my favorite is birds so you don't scare them) and honestly, I use this lens for macro shots (flowers and nature). I prefer this lens compared to the 70-300 because this lens has stabilization built in and because its a telephoto, you don't have to get really close to the subject and still get AMAZING quality.

I bought an 80D camera and this lens. I take pictures at soccer and swimming events my kids participate in. The action is fast paced and I needed a camera and lens that would take crisp pictures. This was definitely the lens I needed. I can be in the bleachers away from the action and take a picture that looks like I was standing next to my kids. Not only that, but the shot is so crisp, it looks like they were standing still posing for the shot. Amazing lens to go with an amazing camera. I would recommend to anyone.

I am new to DSLR cameras, but I have been using this lens for close to a month with no problems. It zooms in great for moon photography. That was the primary reason I bought it. I have used it on both manual and automatic focus settings, I have also used it with and without image stabilization activated and the photos are almost always incredible! The time they are not, I am sure it's me for then the camera or the lens. It's lightweight, so the housing is plastic but it feels substantial and solid in my hand and especially when using the buttons on the lens. Everything feels tight and made to specifications. I didn't give it five stars only because I am new to photography and unsure of how it ranks against the competition.

I was going to buy a Canon package deal with a SL1 camera and 300mm lens. Best Buy staff member showed me that the lense in that package didn't have an auto stabilaztion function.....and showed me how hard it was too use. He showed me this lense (with auto stabilization function) and its great !! Took it too Alaska and got some great photos

Pictures are sharp all the way through focal range, and colors are true. Fast silent focusing. I would buy again and recommend to my friends. Using on a Canon 70d. The hawk photo was taken at 250mm, very over cast day, shutter speed 320, f8, and 1600 iso. The butterfly was taken at 250mm, shutter speed 400, f5.6, and 100 iso.
