No one doesn’t like a 50 mm lens, it gives you the depth you want, crisp and focused images.

Really good lent, easy to use and take very good pictures

Wow. I think this lens is a must have for any photography enthusiast who may want to go beyond the basic lens kit usually found in DSLR cameras. I am an amateur photographer and take pictures mainly of my family and I can only tell you that this lens is amazing. It's easy to use and you'll notice right away that you want to bring this lens everywhere.

Sharp photos, great focus and decent lighting this makes a perfect lens to blur your background and get a vibrant photo.

This new version of the 50mm standard lens hits most of the sweet spots with its compact design, improved build quality, excellent image quality, improved auto focus, and great bokeh. It does am amazing job at capturing bright images in low light locations. You may see some darkening of the corners at full frame such as when using 5D Mark III but equalize by F2.8. But optimal sharpness is at F5.6. Canon got it right with this release. It's great for portraits, indoor sports, travel, street photography, and stage.

i literally never take this lens off of my camera.. it does take a while to focus :( but the depth of field is amazing!!

At first use I was very happy with this lens, and then thought if this was so good at such a great price, what will the next level lens offer. I had consulted with professional and amateur photographers to get their honest opinion, all agreed upon this lens. For general and specific shoots, they all agreed this lens is extremely hard to beat. I am still experimenting and enjoying this lens VERY MUCH! I haven't found any negative or things to improve upon. This lens will stay in my camera bag for that right moment.

Great lens for close up pictures. Subject is clear and background is a bit out of focus which makes the picture look great.

This is a great lens. I use it for both photography and video. On a full frame camera like the 6D, the f/1.8 aperture gives you a very nice blurry background. Crop frame sensors look great too. With a cine camera, it is a must have in your arsenal for video on a budget. The STM is smooth and very silent. Great with the DPAF and even on the old Rebel T4i, the AF is smooth and quite. Get this lens!

Is this the best lens ever created? No. Is it the best lens you can get for under $200? Probably yes. On full frame cameras, it's a nice and light standard that has the same field of view as a cellphone "telephoto". On crop bodies, it's a short tele/portrait. On either, open up to 1.8 and you'll have a real portrait mode. I suggest a hood though: it has a tendency to get veiling flare which softens more than I'd like
