For what you’re paying for this lens, it’s just silly not to buy one. Produces great photos, it has a wide aperture, and a very nice and snappy auto focus. There’s a reason it’s called the Nifty Fifty, practically any photographer you ask will have or have had this lens at some point. You don’t have to use it just for portraits either, go out there and play with it, you won’t be disappointed!
Note to buyers, it does NOT have IS so it’s not exactly the greatest for making videos unless you use a tripod. Also the AF isn’t exactly whisper quiet and the noise will definitely be picked up by a mic mounted on the camera.

Very nice quality lens at a great price. I bought this lens to start my young budding photographer with a good camera body (canon 6D) and a nice affordable lens that is both easy to be successful with but that she won't outgrow. Being able to get good results just feeds the interest. It was recommended to us by pro photographers as a must have for her kit, and I agree.

This lens produces nice images, fantastic quality, and an amazing bokeh effect. Its very light weight and can hardly tell you have a lens on the body. Depth of field and apeture variety is brilliant. Good lens for the price.

Excellent image quality, compact form factor and affordable pricing, but with few minor issues with AF performance. Too be honest for the price you get a great lens. It works great in low light and produces sharp pictures. This lens is excellent in value for just above $100 and the new STM technology definitely makes focus noise quieter, but not as silent as 18-55mm, 55-250mm lenses. Pictures come out sharp and the new version has metal mount that makes the entire lens feel much more premium with a little more weight than the previous version. The 5-blade improved to 7-blades inside the lens and has a more pleasant coating on the lens which is supposed to make light flares nicer. I think it's a little odd that the filter size went from 52mm to 49mm, but no biggie.

For the price, you're getting a lens that will exceed the cost. The wide aperture will allow for better low light performance and the ever popular shallow depth of field. Great for portraits.

They weren't joking that this is sort of a necessary lens to have in your compliment. My granddaughter requested I take her high school graduation photos based on her prom photos that I took for her. I wasn't satisfied with my current lens for the portrait and was looking for a good lens that was also fast enough. This lens is perfect and an economical solution!.

Was looking forever for a good fixed prime lens to shoot portraits. Wasnt too sure if i should get the 1.4 or the 1.8 stm, so happy i went with the 1.8 stm, its lighter and way cheaper!!!

This lens should be a staple in any photographers kit bag. The background blur is off the charts, you go from looking like an armature to a real pro real quick with lens. It has a metal connection ring which fits nice an snug against the camera body(previous versions had plastic). This lens does not has IS(image Stabilization) , so you should have a steady hand or tripod in use. It is pretty solid and dead on throughout all the aperture stops. And for under 130.00 you get a lot of bang for your buck.

I just bought a Canon 80d only the body, I didn’t want the kit lense. So I did my research and everybody raves about this lense. And for good reason, Best purchase I’ve made. It’s cheaper and the quality is so good. Highly recommend it!

I bought this lens because it was inexpensive, and also because I wanted to use the 1.8 f stop for blurry background and narrow focal range.
It's great for that, great in low light. The only thing I dont like is that it zooms in a bunch on a crop sensor DSLR like my camera. I knew this though.
It us a great addition to my camera bag anyways. Love it. And it will be even better on the full frame camera I plan to buy one day!
Anyone looking at this lens for a crop sensor camera be aware it will be zoomed in a bunch like 80mm ish.

is high quality and very useful for portrait and works for the Black magic camera as well. does not have manual gears for the manual focus, there for it must have power connected to it.
