This is a great first lens for beginning photographers. It's very affordable, fast and offers great quality for the price. If you are an intermediate photographer, I recommend going with the 1.4 because the difference in colors, distortion, and boca will be worth the price jump. This shouldn't deteer beginners because adjustments can be made in post and it is so, so much sharper and better than any kit lens.

This lens is definitely a must have. It doesn't fall short from its f1.4 counterpart. Nicely built, small enough to keep in a sweater pocket.

Wow. I think this lens is a must have for any photography enthusiast who may want to go beyond the basic lens kit usually found in DSLR cameras. I am an amateur photographer and take pictures mainly of my family and I can only tell you that this lens is amazing. It's easy to use and you'll notice right away that you want to bring this lens everywhere.

This is a great lens and the quality is excellent! The only thing is that it took a few shots to get used to being a fixed zoom lens, with me having to move forward or backward as needed. But, once I got the hang of this, no issues at all.
Overall the lens feels very high quality, this one having a metal ring vs. the plastic on it's predecessor. Small and compact as well, which is nice. Plus, for the price, you really can not go wrong. This is a no-brainer to add to your lens inventory!
