Don't bother with the 1.4 USM, this is honestly nearly as good for way less money.

When I purchased my Canon t7i it came with two kit lenses, neither of which was a prime lens... they were both variable "zoom" lenses. All my photography friends urged me to purchase a 50mm prime lens. It's almost the only lens I use now. Totally changed the way I shoot. This is the less-expensive version of the lens, with a plastic housing, and $200 less than the all aluminum version. It functions essentially the same and is lighter weight. If you are an amateur or hobby photographer, this should be your next purchase.

Love this lens. As a street photographer I wanted a big lens that wouldn't bring too much attention to me. Great image quality for the price.
