So you're buying your first lens outside of the standard kit lens? This 50mm needs to be it. It will help you to become a better photographer, you're forced to move around and you will notice how much deeper the colors are and the more bokeh you can get. It's a steal and it needs to be in your collection. Just remember to use different lenses for different occasions, if you're into landscapes, this lens won't do the job but tight images and portraits, its gonna be your go to.

many of the reviews do not do this lense justice, it is an absolutely phenomenal lense for the price, and has helped me be shown in photography.

This is a great lens for the price. Seems it should be a bit more, it is that good! Excellent low light lens and for getting that shallow depth of field. The lens is at it's sharpest at 2.8. Compared the quality to my EF-S 10-22mm and this 50mm blows it away! A very professional lens. A must have lens for any serious photographer.

If you have the Canon EPS Rebel T7 camera, then you need this lens. It has been a game changer for my photography business. The only downside, which isn’t much of one, is that YOU are the zoom for this lens meaning that if you need to get closer you must physically get closer to your subject. Same method for if you need to be farther away. This is because this lens has the ability to have super low aperture which helps create that beautiful bokeh effect that everyone wants, while also maintaining a super crisp clear photograph. Once you get used to that, using this lens is a breeze. I don’t regret purchasing this at all!

Bought the 50mm lens after watching multiple videos on it, and reading why I needed to add a 50mm to my lens collection. It hasn’t disappointed at all. It is actually a great lens, The Nifty Fifty as most call it. Opened my eyes to a completely different style of photography than I was used to. I mostly used a telephoto lens. Now I can do many things that a telephoto lens can’t do!

Best lens for the money in the world

That's no exaggeration, this has to be the best lens in the world for the money. There may be other brand names similar and cheaper but they're cheaper for a reason, they aren't built as well and the glass isn't quite as good. There's so much you can do with this lens, everyone should have one.

I am by no means at all a professional photographer! I just recently bought a cannon camera to take pictures and to start getting into photography, and quiet frankly I don't know much about photo taking or camera's at all! I bought this lens because it had great reviews and was a decent price. Since its all new to me I didn't want to invest in a super expensive lens since I don't know much about them. I love how great this lens works and how my photos turn out and cant wait to play around with this one! I would absolutely recommend to new photographers or someone just wanting to get good pictures!

If you just bought a canon camera and you've been using the lens it came with, this is the first lens you should get. You just can't beat the value for money here. It's small, light, lets in a ton of light, and it's cheap. what else do you need?

The lens is lightweight, and even on my crop camera, it took great pictures at my daughters horse show. I took all of my shots of the horses and riders outdoors, blue skies and partly cloudy. It took a few minutes for me to stop reaching around to zoom but since I was moving around, it was easy to step in or out as needed. The pictures came out sharp with no shading. I set the crop for background blur in some pics and they were perfect! I did swap lens to take all of the action in the arenas though since this lens isn't for that type of picture. All in all, a great addition to the collection and at the price, I am extremely impressed at how amazing the pictures were.

They don't call this the Nifty Fifty for nothing.
I am a 29 year professional photographer. This lens though it may be small and cheap, fragile even in this design, is more than worth its weight.
For such a low cost, this lens should be in every arsenal. If anything, it would be a great backup or video film lens.
The Boque of this lens is absolutely gorgeous and I would not go anywhere without it.
The downside as I said before is the plastic build. But for such a low price... why the heck not? I recommend for any beginner.

This is one of those lenses that’s sharp, light and cheap! Yup, cheap!
If you’re new to photography and just got a camera, this should be your first lens you buy. When I first got my canon kit with lenses I was so excited.. but once I picked up this little guy I really got to try new things.
F1.8 for around $100 is crazy.. Sure it’s not built like a 70-200 f2.8L, but it doesn’t need to be. Chances are you won’t drop it.. and if you do it’s cheap and is easily replaced.

I have had this lens for several days now and I'm beyond impressed with its capabilities. I've been looking for a good prime lens for a while now and I finally decided on this one. I'm having a blast with it! I'm currently using it on my Canon Rebel SL1. I have gotten some of the best photos that I have ever taken with this lens. The quality of the images is incredible!!! I can't wait to use this lens on trips that we have planned this summer. I can already tell that this is going to be my go-to lens that I will use probably about 95% of the time. I still have my 18-55mm lens as well as my 75-300mm lens, but this "nifty fifty" lens is definitely my new favorite. Whether you're an amateur/hobbyist photographer or a pro, you absolutely need this lens in your camera bag! Below is one of the many photos I have taken with this lens since getting it last week.

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens is a popular choice for both beginner and intermediate photographers due to its affordability and excellent image quality. Its wide aperture of f/1.8 allows for beautiful background blur (bokeh) and low-light performance, making it versatile for portrait, street, and low-light photography. The STM (Stepping Motor) technology ensures smooth and quiet autofocus, ideal for both photo and video shooting. While its build quality may not be as robust as more expensive lenses, its compact size and impressive optical performance make it a favorite among photographers on a budget.

I recently purchased this lens as I am still starting out on my photography journey and this was the best first buy I added to my kit. The lens is perfect for beginner portrait photography. The employee that helped me explained this lens in detail to me and also compared the other 50mm and other lens and told me this would benefit me more in this stage of my experience and he was completely right. If you are looking to upgrade your lens I highly recommend this one. You won't regret it.

I have a rebel t7, with the lens that came with the camera years back. I've done individual projects and a couple hired projects. I had a client for Prom and wanted to upgrade my camera set up for that and in general.. this was a great step up. Great clear focus on subject, professional look in budget, background has 1-10 0.5 blur sometimes on zoom out for a soft candid intimate image. Highly recommend. I will be switching between this and my 18-55. Made me excited to do more hired work with confidence in my equipment.

This lens is great for portrait shots. If you are a headshot photographer (actors, businesses, etc.) then this lens is great for 3 reasons. One, you get a 1.8 f stop which allows for a lot of light. Two, it's relatively inexpensive compared to the other lenses. Three, it's lightweight compared to hauling around a big heavy lens

This is my first lens purchase apart from the lens kit I had gotten with my DSLR. I'd say overall, it's a big change from the kit ones. I especially enjoyed being able to shoot with larger aperture. And that blurry background looks nice, even with my crop sensor camera. The only thing I noticed (which is probably not that important to all) is how slow it focuses. I mean not turtle slow, but you can tell. And it's definitely not silent. I should have gotten the USM one but it's much more expensive. Overall, it's something that I would recommend if you're in a budget. Note: I am not a professional by any means. and this is just a beginner's point of view.
