    Will Change Indie Film

I own a Canon 5D Mark II and due to hardware limitations, Canon couldn't provide 24p. Finally they've released the camera that every indie filmmaker dreams about. The world of D-SLR filmmaking has officially arrived. True, it only has an APS-C sensor, but because of it's updated technology and dual-processors, the 7D can handle more data per second than the Mark II. This means even better image quality. And if that weren't enough, it also features 60p at 1280x720, giving the option to do silky-smooth slow motion. Finally, this is true 24p. That means no cadence. You pull the footage right off the camera, pre-render and start editing. No pulldown required. More info: http://esotericsean.com/canon-7d-versus-5d-mark-ii/

    The "Pro" in "Prosumer"

The Canon 7D is a professional-caliber camera at a pricepoint that is well below what you would expect. When I began researching this camera, I kept wondering what the catch was. How could a camera with this resolution and feature set come with HD video, at this price? Having now played with it for a few weeks, I can tell you that it's exactly as advertised. The features are all here, it works great, and yes, the price is for real... it's at least a thousand dollars less than you would expect. On the downside, as of today, the drivers to open the pictures directly in Photoshop, have not been released yet. There's a workaround but the camera raw driver is still coming. My other complaint is that the camera is heavy. I put a big heavy lens on it which doesn't help of course, but the camera is big and bulky. If you are looking for a great vacation camera, this probably isn't it. On the other hand, if you are looking to upgrade your photography and take pictures that are pro quality, then this is the bargain of the century. I'm thrilled with this camera.

Just got this last week. Used it for two engagement shoots I had this weekend. I am very glad I made the purchase. I have a 40d and was contemplating the 7d or 5MKII. With Best Buy's sale and financing both were reachable but considering the still large price difference, I went for the 7d. I'm glad I did. I just couldn't justify the extra $$$ for full frame at this point. You won't be disappointed with this camera.

Was tired of buying nice point and shoot and them not working to my standards. They never take the pic when you want and you miss the shot. Not with this camera. WOW the quality. You can't say enough about the quality. I bought the Canon package with the telephoto lens and the Canon 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S Zoom Lens. You don't want the cheap lens that comes with the 7d. There is a lot to learn about the camera to take even higher quality photos. I found that was not a problem b/c I got addicted to this hobby immediately.

    WOW-Great Camera

It came with the 28-135 Cannon zoom. which works adequately, but I had several older third party lenses that I had used successfully on my old Canon EOS film camera. They did not prove adequate for the 7D. I purchased a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 which works quite well, but the Tamron 18-270 and Canon 70-300 leave something to be desired in the image sharpness above about 150 mm. The Canon 70-200 f4 IS I borrowed produced fabulous images at every setting. Pros: -Superb image quality, Superb ISO performance, fast 19 point AF system,, Excellent movie modes, Multitude of features, Feels goo in my hand Cons: -Autofocus complex options, No autofocusing while recording a movie

Very pleased with auto focus, ISO, shutter speed, movie quality, wireless flash, feel of the body, well I'm happy with all the features. While spending this much on a camera is something that I never thought I would do I'm very pleased with the purchase and feel it is well worth the price.

    Terrific upgrade!

I've upgraded from the Rebel XTi after using that for 2 years; this camera is superb, but as the Rebel XTi was already a very capable camera to begin with, in my opinion, the 7D didn't feel like an earth-shaking upgrade for me personally. I'm still just a few weeks into using it, and re-learning how to quickly access some of the main settings (especially during shooting, when you have your eye up to the viewfinder) has been a bit of a challenge, comfortable as I'd become with with Rebel's layout. I still have to check the topside LCD display, or go into the Quick Info screen, until I have it all memorized. I'm very happy with the improved ISO noise (or rather, the lack of noise)---that was probably my biggest complaint of my Rebel, such that I only shot at 100 or 200; rarely 400, and never 800/1600. The 7D by comparison has produced quite acceptable noise levels up to 3200 so far, and the range goes up to 12000. The LCD screen on back is a bright, sharp, fantastic upgrade from the Rebel's; I feel like I can finally rely on the LCD to check careful spot focus or the image overall. I also like that Canon brought "Live View" to the camera (similar to a point-and-shoot, allows you to use the LCD screen, instead of viewfinder, to compose)---that feature is nice for awkward angles, where putting your eye to the viewfinder might be hard to do---it also allows you to zoom in 10x on the live scene, to confirm focus before you shoot (helpful in manual focus/macro shots.) I should have known better, but was a little surprise by how few of my favorite accessories migrated from the Rebel to the 7D... the Canon Angle-Finder C will fit both thankfully, but the 7D uses larger batteries, and thus a different battery grip accessory, as well as a different 3-pin wired remote shutter release. Of course with the larger file size, my mostly 4-gig cards from the Rebel fill up *mighty* fast! So some of these crucial add-ons to my new kit was an added expense I hadn't fully thought out. Overall, I'm very happy with the camera; the larger body size fits my hands better than the Rebel did, and I don't mind the extra weight. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to someone who is already very comfortable with SLR use, as an upgrade from the Rebel line, or even the "10-series" lineup. (Note: I have not had any interest in, nor need to explore the HD video feature of the camera, so I can't comment on that.)

While this is not my first Canon DSLR, it's definitely one of the best. I'm a semi-pro photographer, and I knew this would be one of my main cameras the minute I heard it was announced. The 18 megapixel images are fantastic, and the low light ISO noise control make this camera able to do things I'v never seen any DSLR do. The only issues I have at all are the fact that it's not inexpensive to get the quality and it's not exactly small or light. If asked would I purchase it again though? Absolutely!

    Full featured pro-sumer camera

I have been using my 1D Mark II N since getting it having graduated from my Canon 20D. I wanted the 8.5 fps and the full features of the 1D series and was amazed at the quality of pictures it produced, even at only 8mp. The 7D has many of the features of my 1D and then some... HD video, live view, higher mp count and almost as high fps. The 18+mp cmos will test your lenses even more than my older 1D. Between the 1.6 crop factor and the 18+mp, you will need to use L series lenses or their equivalent to not be plagued by soft pictures. If you put the right lenses on it, your pictures should be stunning, mine were. The CF's for "lens micro adjust" makes it very easy to get spot-on photos, and the self cleaning cmos is nice (wish my 1D had it). I don't use the video aspect of this camera, not sure I will, I have a video camcorder for that. Over-all very impressed with this camera and all it has to offer.

Best HD DSLR On The Market

I already knew before buying this camera that is was absolutely amazing. Finally, an HD DSLR where you can get film quality video at 24p at more reasonable price. The audio issue that I mentioned above doesn't bother me, because I use a separate field audio recorder. I have not used the metering or any manual settings, because I use manual focus Nikkor prime lenses with an adapter ring. Overall, this camera is amazing.

Great camera but not for beginners

This is a spectacular piece of equipment for an avid photographer or videographer. Advanced metering, focus, bracketing. Quick adjustment screen, easy to use controls, very responsive. Beautiful shots, great video (though you really need an external mic for quality sound) and a wonderful photography experience. I highly recommend this camera for mid and high level photographers, but it is not for the faint of heart--newcomers should look at the 60D or Rebel XTi

Like no other camera on the market, this camera sports an on board flash controller like the nikons, better video than the 5d mark III with a smaller price tag. Through in my favorite 50d feature, AF Micro Adjustment and this baby rocks. Someone doesn't like the price? Get over it, this camera does more than any Nikon or Canon out there and is priced at an appropriate price!

The already low price combined with Best Buy's 18 month interest free financing option made this a definate buy for me, an independent filmmaker without a lot of money, yet needing a camera that could deliver a high quality image. Though this is a digital SLR, I use it primarily for its HD video capability, which rivals the top prosumer video cameras out there.

Love the camera, especially the burst mode feature

Have done lots of research between the Canon 60D or the Canon 7D and also the Nikon D7000. The pic quality from the Nikon D7000 is slightly better than the 7D from various comparisons but decided the burst mode (8 fps) from the 7D is what I ultimately use the camera for (kids' sports). The Nikon D7000 has only 6 fps, comparable to the Canon 60D, but the 7D has 8 fps. I don't do any landscape photos in RAW format and rarely do low light so the higher ISO settings really didn't matter to me. Settings are different from my old XTi so it's taken a little adjustments. More camera features so I guess there are more settings, etc. Settings not as intuitive at first but get easier as you're more familiar with them.
