Customers are saying

Customers commend the EOS 7D Mark II for its exceptional image quality, ease of use, and impressive speed, particularly its high frame rate which is great for capturing sports and action shots. Positive feedback also highlights the improved autofocus and low-light performance compared to its predecessor. However, some users note that the camera's weight and battery life could be improved. The abundance of features is also a frequently cited positive aspect.

I purchased this camera as I wanted a faster processor to capture indoor/outdoor sports, and it has performed exceptionally well. I'd recommend reading the manual to learn about the settings

This camera has taken me to the next level of shooting. I cannot tell you what an amazing sports photography camera this is. I use a 100-400 Cannon lens as well and I have never had so much fun creating art in my life.

I upgraded from the 7d . . .it was stolen. Long story, but, all is good except for my lost pictures, insurance took care of the rest. Anyway, I'm basing this review on the difference between the 7d and the 7Dii. I've had the 7Dii for 5 months now and have gotten use to it. A few differences in the button controls. Some I like better and some are not as good(location wise). The 7Dii does a lot better job in low light . . .especially finding and holding focus. Honestly, the best improvement is in the video part of this camera. If you take a lot of video, then you will like the improvement here. The 7D does not auto focus, but, the 7Dii does and it does a great job. It has to be almost pitch dark before it has trouble finding the focus. Here is a link to a youtube video I took with the 7Dii with the 24-70 f/4 . . .hand held and right out of the camera, no adjustments at all. https://youtu.be/EVlHJOfEUcM You will need to copy and paste the link. This is one of the first couple of videos I took with the camera. Not bad sound quality, no external mic, no speakers . . .just strings and vocals. Good video considering an open environment and I was not intending to shoot video, just saw an opportunity and took it. Street music . . . Overall, I like the 7Dii better than the 7D, but, I would not have upgraded it not for the circumstance. I was very happy with the 7D. Fast camera, sharp pictures and very, very good video. But, after using the 7Dii for a while, I love it.

So after long awaited I finally got this camera..I was so stoked to finally be upgrading from my 7d... 7DMK2 felt like the mk1 and I was ok with that since I don't like having to relearn button configuration. Well I got home, charged the battery and got up bright and early the next am...got lots of shots of birds and gators and just about everything I could find moving... When i went in to post processing I noticed that I only had about a 10% rate of keeper photos.. exchanged the camera and tried again and still nothing seemed to work..keep in mind I was using a Canon 300mmf4 L lens. I ended after many any days of research switching to nikon and the picture quality is far better then that of the canon. Sad to have left canon but happy to be in a system that takes fantastic photos... My new set up is d610 and a 200/500 F5.6

Canon 7d Mark II Special Features

    Posted .

I now have a Canon 7D Mark II DSLR, purchased at Best Buy. I have discovered some special features that are new to this camera, and some features are the first for any Canon DSLR. I want you to be aware of these features because I consider them to be special and they sometimes are not included in a list of features. This is an outstanding camera, because of numerous features. Special features: Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB), for High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos, can now be set to 2-7 shots. The previous model had a fixed 3 shots. The max ISO is 51,200. The previous model was 12,800. My Auto ISO mode is now set with a higher ISO. There is a menu function for setting each Info item either on or off, in the viewfinder. It is so nice to set each item separately instead of all Info items being either on or off. In addition to the built-in GPS, there is also a magnetic heading to show the direction the camera was pointed, at each GPS location. The battery, with increased capacity over the 7D battery, will support 800 shots! The AutoFocus numerous settings are amazing, because of the camera's ability to automatically change focus on a variety of moving subjects. Part of this AutoFocus ability is because of image recognition and part is because of the 65 cross-type focus points. Focusing is lightning-fast. This is outstanding and so amazing! Shutter is designed for 200,000 cycles, instead of the 150,000 for the prior 7D model. Silent continuous burst mode is now available. Most-mentioned features in reviews: 20.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. High-definition movie mode. AutoFocus permits continuous focus tracking of moving subjects. Burst mode up to 10 fps. ISO 100-16,000, expandable 51,200. 65-point cross-type autofocus system. Flash plus hot shoe. Dual DIGIC 6 image processors (more processing performance that any other EOS camera). Magnesium-alloy body. Dust and weather-resistant design. Built-in GPS. Card slots for CF and SD, SDHC, SDXC and UHS-I. There are levels (side to side and up/down) in the viewfinder and on the display. Built-in intervalometer to trigger exposures. I strongly suggest that you download and read the following manuals from the Canon website so you can have the knowledge on how to use this camera. This suggestion applies to evaluation in a store and to using your own purchase. Knowledgeable and proper use of the camera's functions will provide you with much more satisfaction on the superb functionality of this camera. Very impressed with this camera! For a crop sensor the ISO is great and by far the best for any crop sensor camera for ISO ability. I also love that this camera is very versatile for portrait photography, wildlife, sports, etc. This camera makes my 5d Mark II seem like a dinosaur with all the bells and whistles this camera has such as 10 frames per second, the AWESOME focus system and the list goes on. This camera will rock with a 70-200 mm 2.8 lens so I'll have to save up for that! :)

I have owned three 7d models. The new 7d MarkII is far superior and meets my expectations. If you can afford the camera, this is a great purchase. The new model has dual digi6 processors for beautiful images and great stop action for sports.

Prior to owning my 7D Mark II, I owned the original 7D and I loved it. For still photography, this model improves on the autofocus, faster processing, and has greater ISO capacity. For video, it allows 1080p recording at 60fps and has excellent lower quality (still HD) options. It's a great camera at a great price. Love my 7D Mk II!

    Problem Using &D7ii with 300mm f/2.8L IS

    Posted .

I purchased a 7D from BestBuy last year. I has been great. So I decided to get a 7dii mainly to use with my 70-200mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/2.8 fixed lens. Problem soon became apparent that the 7dii worked similarly to the 7D on the 70-200 but terribly with the 300mm. Had all settings nearly identical and shot both cameras on same day. Hundreds of shots taken. All images while using the 7dii with the 300mm were out of focus. No problem with the 7D. Sent the camera back to B+H Photo. (They honored their 30-day full return policy.) I believe there may be an incompatibility between the 7D ii's 69 point focus and the 300mm lens itself... or something else. Until the problem can be explained, I'm sticking with the great 7D.
