LCD Display Doesn't Stay Illuminated

However, one of the features that I really wanted was an illuminated LCD display. I plugged this one in to check it and it lit up blue. But when I got it home, I discovered it initially lights up blue but then goes dark. Makes it useless for timing because you can't see it unless you shine a flashlight on it.
