A Love Story for the Ages
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Carol is a love story dealing with two women at a time where the same gender couldn't publicly have affection for one another. Todd Haynes does a beautiful job to make this movie come together despite taking years and years to get this movie out. Phyllis Nagy's adapted screenplay is remarkable and on-point. Finally, the lead actresses, Cate Blanchet and Rooney Mara, had great chemistry to make their love believable and enchanting.

Great movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie is a great reminder of the 50's in New York, with two actresses nominated for academy awards. The same director as Far from Heaven, Carol has similar storylines dealing with a taboo subject for that time. Cinematography is beautifully done, with a wonderful soundtrack also nominated for an academy award. A must see.

a dark totally captivating movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.based on a novel by patricia highsmith (whose novels become "strangers on a train" , "ripley's game", and "the talented mr. ripley) departs from her usual crime thrillers to provide a character study of two women who fall i love in 1952 when this sort of behavior was considered taboo. good direction by Todd Haynes.

Great Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Carol, is a complex movie about the forbidden love between an older and younger women during the conformist 1950's. It is refreshingly subtly and for once not formulaic. It does a wonderful job of letting the story slowly unfold in a realistic fashion. And doesn't insult it's audiences intelligence by bopping us over the head with it's themes and conclusions. A superb romance.

Good alternative love story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This blu-ray dvd is not as long as the rented one I got with Netflix which included the stay overnight by Therese at Carol's house. This and a couple of other scenes were missing. Not sure if there is a longer version available for sale. The movie was very good, a little slow in spots, but interesting and kept our attention.

Visual Treat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If this were a silent movie I would still give it 5 stars. Todd Haynes has crafted a beautiful, elegant film. Blanchett is perfect and Mara does a phenomenal job portraying a character discovering herself. Supporting cast, though small, makes an impression as well. There isn't really anything bad about this movie.

Great Movie. Really tastefully written and produc
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has become one of my all time favorite movies. It's great to finally have a movie like this produced for the mainstream viewer. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara were superb in this movie. A must see if you haven't seen it yet! The atmosphere and recreation of the early 50s era is superb.

Cate Blanchet is Amazing!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A very touching story about a woman who loves another woman. Taking place in New York during the 1950's, a time when it was almost a crime to be gay. This movie is based on a book by Patricia Highsmith who also wrote The Very Talented Mr. Ripley. A wonderful writer who tells a great story.

Great performances
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cate Blanchett did it again. To bad she can not win so soon after Jasmine. Rooney Mara was just as good. The fifties never look so beautiful. Surprised how women could fall in love with each other during the times. The costumes for this period were magnificent

How was this not nominated for best picture?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really beautiful film with great performances. The relationship at the center is the core of the film and it's handled really well. Probably not for everyone, but I love it.

Evocative and Thoughtful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Carol follows the narratives of two very different women as they find love empathy and hardships of life. THe performances all around portray the human nature of every character and portrays their faults in a beautiful and depthful journey.

Great movie about an interesting subject
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are great together and very convincing. The movie reveals the challenges faced by lesbians during mid-century America. All the pressure to conform regardless of your economic status. Sets and costumes are spot on.

Carol: An Optimistic Brokeback
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The film was one of the best of last year and it's a shame it didn't get much love from the Oscars. The performances are dynamite even though the story sizzles through. It's all about the acting here and it offers everything you could ask for.

Wonderful acting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Of the two movies Danish Girl and Carol, I think Carol is much more subtly acted. I didn't think it would have drawn me into their life story as much as it did. Incredible atmosphere. Must also see SNL parody by Kate Mckennon too.

Worthy of 'The Price of Salt'
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Patricia Highsmith [The Talented Mr. Ripley] had great range as a novelist and this adaption of 'The Price of Salt' into film is not in vain. Two great actors bring Carol to life: Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara.

A Modern Brief Encounter
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The echos of classic movies like Brief Encounter and Vertigo and references to Sunset Boulevard make this the rare movie that gets the spirit of classic films yet adds a more modern sensibility.
