I started watching Chernobyl during an HBO trial and found the mini-series interesting. I saw the miniseries on sale and picked it up. The events are historically accurate for the most part and the show has some nice cinematography. Each episode is about an hour long, except for the finale and focuses on one "event" during the events following the disaster. They do jump forward in time a bit each episode, but the timeline is always clear. I recommend this series, its worth the watch. The digital copy included in this set easily redeems through Vudu in HD.

I quickly forget that I am watching actors performing in a miniseries. Even more disturbing than the willful disregard and its horrific consequences is the denial of truth and science by the Soviet government. And then you realize that they are not the only ones to put politics before facts. The video is drab and the audio talky, but you are too mesmerized by the story to notice. It is an upsetting docudrama that I cannot stop watching. How's that for a recommendation?

One of the Best Mini-Series Ever to Air on TV

Chernobyl is an incredibly unique show. From the writer of the Hangover sequels comes what is possibly the best work of historical fiction I've ever seen. Brilliantly acted and shot, the show amounts to what is basically a five hour panic attack. Dread creeps in from the first shot and doesn't let up until the finale. Not to mention that the shows overall theme of the cost of lying rings more true a mere year and a half later than when it premiered. Plus, the steelbook release has what is quite possibly the greatest alternate artwork ever made for one of these releases, drawing from Munch's 'The Scream'.

Bought this after seeing that it was on sale. I'd wanted to watch it for quite some time, but felt it may be best experienced in 4K with a good sound system available and I was not disappointed! From what I understand, it was ~mostly~ historically accurate. Each episode was better than the last. The quality of the 4K transfer itself was flawless as well. I'm avoiding spoilers (but if you know about the Chernobyl disaster itself, there's not much to spoil) but it's absolutely worth the watch to see how it played out.

This is a powerful miniseries about the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the ex-soviet union in 1986. It's an incredible drama of government cover-up and corruption, was well the same government moving heaven and earth to prevent a radioactive holocaust. It's the story of extremely brave people trying to do the right thing. You really should watch this miniseries and see for yourself why it won awards.

This is a 5 part mini-series that is excellent and shows the disaster and incompetence in handling the events that led to the Chernobyl disaster. It's really sad what happened to the environment and the lives lost around the event. The story is expertly told. The trial scenes were very interesting when Valery Legasov was explaining how everything went wrong in the control room and reactor core. Interesting piece of Russian history that can't be missed!

This 5-part miniseries is very well delivered. The portrayal of the Soviet officials’ reactions, protection of their fiefdoms, and the governmental hierarchy is revealing. The photography, special effects and makeup are remarkable and put you in the very heart of the Chernobyl disaster. The human aspect is well addressed showing the results the accident had on average people all the way up to the Kremlin. Excellent acting! Chilling material. You’ll want to see more from this director. (Perhaps Fukushima?)

This HBO series is a riveting account of the Russian nuclear meltdown and from start to "will it ever be finished". The blunders, and chaos are revealed in thrilling content through an excellent cast of characters. The mini series is in 5 parts and well worth the cost of this film. The artwork of the steelcase version is awesome and will be a hard to find collectable for many years to come.

I had never watched this mini series on HBO, but heard a lot about it. As a steelbook collector of 4K blu-rays, I was interested in getting this series. The quality is awesome. I have a Panasonic UB820 4k player and an LG OLED tv, and this looks great. It is a dark and disturbing look into the nuclear energy options, and can be a solid reminder of the dark and corrupted world we live in!

Quality of the discs: great. Quality of the show: superb. I cannot recommend this miniseries enough. It's incredible. As a cinematography juckie, I immediately had to buy the blurays afterI saw the the first episode in 720p. Definitely not a popcorn, make-ya-feel-good show. It's a serious work of film-making about the rotten core of human nature and the lessons we all need to learn from the past.

I got this Blu-ray on an amazing sale of $15, and considering the cost of a HBO subscription you cant go wrong. This is one of the most well thought out series in my opinion, and is a masterclass in perspective. It incorporates factual accounts and well written characters to create a show that does this horrific accident justice. If you are even remotely fascinated by the real world event and repercussions you must watch this.

This miniseries is a must watch. The storytelling is fantastic, the actors were phenomenal in their respective roles. I know the production team took some dramatic liberties, however, the series is top notch. I honestly think that it should be shown in schools. It is a great show that everyone should watch. It is not only enjoyable, but it is also very educational.

First off, the steelbook is amazing. Yes, the US release has a typo on the front but that never bothered me. I love how it comes with those disc dividers inside so that the discs arent stacked on eachother. The mini series is amazing too. The show is very intense and realistic. Its not a high on action mini series but the show does an amazing job getting you to want more.

The "Chernobyl" HBO miniseries gives a detailed history of the serious nuclear accident at Chernobyl in 1986. The press coverage at the time in the U.S. wasn't at all complete, mainly due to Russia's ambivalence towards admitting their errors that caused the explosion. Well worth owning, for any history buff!

Like all HBO productions I've seen, _Chernobyl_ has outstanding production value. While the storyline is slightly altered for film, it, along with the dialogue and cinematography capture the intensely novel and frightening effects that the reactor core explosion had on the plant workers, how leaders responded, the subsequent cleanup efforts, and the calls for accountability.

After you can set aside the Hollywood additions and dramatics you'll find this series to be very well done and an interesting drama on the historical event. Not that I mind things were tweaked and changed as a whole, but the show tries to portray itself as an accurate retelling with its real world text and tone and can be confusing or misleading for those looking for complete historical accuracy.

Absolutely amazing miniseries that captures different characters, situations & aspects of the Chernobyl disaster. I previously owned this on blu ray and wasn’t sure about upgrading but after seeing this artwork for the steelbook I was sold! Depending on your setup, you will notice subtle upgrades over the blu ray disc but nothing too drastic.
