Great reboot of the original, horror at it's best.

I am a BIG Chucky fan. The 1988 Child's Play is one of my favorites, and I really appreciate that this was a fresh take on the original franchise. I loved it; every minute and it is not as scary as the original, I thought anyway. Gabriel Bateman who played Andy was great. Good movie twists, you think you are going to know what will happen next and surprised by the jump scares which are very different from the original. This movie was very entertaining and I enjoyed it. My family has watched it several times and we also quote lines of the movie which is hilarious at times. I am looking forward to a Part 2 if they decided to do one!

I was glad they tried to do a different movie then the original. It just didn't work out.

I was really hoping that this would hold up to the OG. However it fell short

I would not recommend this, at all. There’s a reason the studio wouldn’t even release this movie in 4K, I learned that the hard way. I thought I’d give it a chance even though I did not hear anything good about this film. Needless to say the story is corny, and not in the good way like any Child’s Play beyond 3 which were acceptable. The kills were not scary, just silly and non-impactful and they even kill a cat just to be edgy. Then they changed the whole Chucky and Andy dynamic to basically just Chucky being obsessed with Andy and not wanting to take his body for his own. This was clearly an attempt to follow the success of IT: Chapter One. Overall please if you insist on seeing this rent it first and save yourself the 20$ but if I were you I’d pretend it doesn’t exist and stick with the originals.

Instead of being a 7th sequel to the Chucky series, this is more of a modern reboot of the original Chucky “Child’s Play”. The doll is different, his name is different (Buddy), he is equipped with wi-fi to control his surroundings and answer commands, the boy Andy is twice the age of the one in the original. I love that the single mother in the movie is Aubrey Plaza; though not a comedic role for her, she’s still very interesting to watch. The movie does get pretty much as intense as the original as Buddy’s safety features are mis-wired. To watch on its own merits, it is an adequate horror movie at best. But to watch as a “Chucky” fan, it’s a bit less than that. I am not saying here that the movie stinks, but being a fan of Chucky it was mildly disappointing to me.
