    Infinite Crawlin'

Cladun Returns is an interesting game. It takes the core philosophy of NIS's popular Disgaea strategy RPG series - nearly infinite gameplay - and applies it to a different genre - an action top-down dungeon crawler. Fans of grinding and loot collecting will find alot to love in Cladun. There are finite story dungeons to explore, but once you reach a certain point in the game, the infinite and randomly generated side dungeons unlock. There's always a new class to train, or new gear to collect. Cladun is also a great game for people who don't have alot of time on their hands for gaming. The series has its roots in handheld gaming, and that's clear with the brief nature of dungeons. Each mission takes only minutes to complete, and the game's mechanics are built around kinetic action with jumps and slides. You're always being challenged to beat your best times. Don't let the charming oldchool pixel graphics and sound fool you. Cladun may be short for "Classic Dungeon," but this is still a curious, and thoroughly modern action RPG that offers more and more with every minute you put into it.

A dungeon crawler at its peak with an interesting setting, the Sengoku period. This game is as classic as you can get. The visuals are sprite based, the story is minimum, and the main focus is the gameplay. This is a very tough game like most dungeon crawlers are, and for that reason I would only recommend this game to fans of dungeon crawlers and fans of challenging themselves.

I have been a fan of the Cladun series since I played the first game on the PSP back in the day. The first game is my favorite on the PSP. This installment is a little easier than the first game, which is good if one wants to get into the series but does not know where to start. And even if one is not aware that this game is part of a series, it is still great on it's own merits. I also have a Japanese copy for my Vita and the soundtrack. That ought to give one a clue as to how big a fan I am.

Cladun Returns is a RPG set in ancient Japan. While that concept is not new, the art style of the game mimics retro "8-bit" role playing games. It's more closer to the older "Dragon Warrior" games for the NES than it is to the recent 3D Dot Heroes (for the PS3.) For fans of the prior genre, you can't go wrong with this title.

Its kinda janky. Over complicated for a pixelated dungeon crawler with bad hit detection. Probably skip it.
