If you are a JRPG fan, you must play this game ASAP. It has a really great story line and the music is amazing. The gameplay seems easy at fist but it definitely gets harder and harder once you progress. There is a lot of "timed" sequences that you need to dodge or block, which can get very annoying but also challenging. If you want a game that is not easy with a great story, this game is for you!

Enough has been said about this game, but if you're into JRPGs (the style of RPGs at least) at all, this game is a must play. Heck, I argue you should buy the game alone for the soundtrack, but everything about the game comes together. The emotional story, the deep characters, and more mature dialogue than your typical anime JRPG. Add on to the fact that the graphics are impressive and the combat system is engaging and yeah, this a strong contender for Game of the Year in 2025.
Even at the full MSRP price of $50 the game is worth it especially with its wealth of content (though I do think the side content could have been spread out more instead of overloading the player in the final act), but for any sale price it is simply a must.
An instant classic. Easily the best of 2025 so far

I’ll keep this plain and simple. The story is incredible, the music amolifies the battles and environment exploration, and the JRPG combat is tight and creative enough to get you through to the endgame. If you even remotely like JRPGs, this is an easy choice. It’s also a bonus that the publisher decided to price this game at $50 when other conpanies are pricing lesser quality games at $70. Buy this game.

Absolutely amazing game. Soundtrack, gameplay and story. It tics all the boxes for me, absolutely stellar. Do you love turn based games? This is a love letter to you. Do you find turn base boring? With the QTEs and being able to parry or dodge all enemies attacks, this game shakes up the formulae. Please give it a try.

What a fantastic turned-based RPG. From the story to the visuals, pick this game up now either physically or digitally and you will not regret it one bit. One last thing, the parry mechanics is you best friend.

Excellnt turn based gameplay with QTE style inputs make for and exciting way to play. Story is very intruiging and captivating with characters that are well acted.

Expedition 33 is one of the best and most impactful games of the year. It honors JRPGs of the past and picks up the torch from others that have experimented to bring real time action elements into the turn based combat and parry systems. The gameplay is uniquely rewarding, the narrative is engrossing, the art is supremely detailed, the music is god tier, and the whole package of this game is something that shouldn’t be missed by anyone - fans of turn based JRPGs or not. Play this game. Support indies. Support game design that takes risks. Support new teams making sustainable projects. And reward yourself with one of the most highly rated gaming experiences of this - or any - year.
The *only* critique I have is a lack of accessibility options - the game may not be accessible to blind/low vision players or those with motor disabilities.

This game is a masterpiece. It's how turn based should have progressed to years ago. These guys made a fantastic story with phenomenal acting and some of the best turn based gameplay ever. If you like this type of gameplay then you need to get it.

A wonderful game that reinvigorated my love for the JRPG genre. It’s a touching tale about the nature of grief and loss, and also has excellent art and fun gameplay, too.
This is genuinely one of the best games I’ve played in a while. It is definitely worth a try!

Great gameplay. Great story. Memorable characters and art style. In my opinion, this game may be seen as the start of a new iconic RPG franchise years from now, a la Final Fantasy.

Clair Obscur is such an amazing game. From the moment I started playing it, I was hooked. The characters & storyline are so original. And I love that they brought back turn based battles but with a unique twist. If you love RPGs, this is a must-have.

An outstanding full length turn based RPG with an amazing, heart-wrenching narrative, lovable cast, and an actively engaging, action oriented turn based RPG combat system, the likes that are comparable to another outstanding turn based RPG, Lost Odyssey. And all at $50, made with a reasonable budget, in a time where games are increasing in price while decreasing in quality. If modern Final Fantasy games have disappointed you, or you just want to experience what will likely be a landmark title for this studio and generation of games, please consider this game, either via purchase here, or through Xbox Game Pass.

The game was amazing. Ive never been a fan of turn based games but this one is just too good. I loved the story so much. The characters are so well written.

yes, it's as good as everyone says it is. i loved every minute i had with this game. i laughed, i cried. extremely fun combat, FANTASTIC music, great return to linear levels/a navigable overworld ala pre-FF10 final fantasy games. characters were complex and loveable, environments were beautiful, enemies were interesting. not a super long game, but long enough. incredible metanarrative on what fiction and reality can mean to us. absolute masterpiece.

This is the type of game that I have been waiting a long time for, something that the triple A studios have given up making. From the presentation to gameplay, this feels like something that once upon a time we’d have gotten from a big publisher. But no, this was made by a small team with a lot of heart. I’m glad I was able to order this last minute before the physical PS5 version was hard to get. If you miss the old school turned base Final Fantasy games, but made with awesome modern production values, you won’t regret picking this up,
