So this brings Clannad to a close, and what an ending! But first, let’s get some perspective. The first season covers a period of approximately 4 to 5 months. After Story Collection 1 Disc 1 covers perhaps another month or two. Disc 2 of that volume covers roughly another 6 months. This collection will cover quite a bit more than that. In doing so we the audience are finally clued in to the secret connection between Nagisa, Tomoya, and the “Girl from the World that has Ended.” Disc 1: Explores Nagisa’s and Tomoya’s lives after High School. Their friends make cameo appearances but ultimately this story is their own. I don’t wish to spoil this amazing story so I intend to be vague in this summery. Nagisa has finally graduated and she and Tomoya decide to get married. Their new life together is a blessing; Akio and Sanae are happy and supportive of their relationship. But when Nagisa’s condition worsens, it forces hard decisions of the two of them and threatens to tear Tomoya apart. Later in the disc we fast forward 5 years. Due to the earlier events, Tomoya and Nagisa are no longer together. Tomoya has buried himself in shame and sorrow, blaming what happened between he and Nagisa on himself and the curse that seems to follow him in this town. He goes so far as to wish that he had never spoken to Nagisa on that fateful day and the bottom of the hill leading to their school. But when he meets a little Girl named Ushio, slowly a smile begins to return to his face and warmth to his heart. In the midst of this the “Girl from the World that has Ended” and her hand made friend decide to leave the safety of the empty house in the search of the world where her friend was born. Disc 2: I will say only this about the final three episodes. Its power over the you, the viewer is immense! In the climax as the winter snows pour in both Tomoya’s world and the World that has Ended, the power connection between Tomoya and the Girl from the World that has Ended is finally explained. The opening to the final episode plays a variation of the Song of the Other World “Gensou” (Fantasy) called “Shoujo no Gensou” (The Girl’s Fantasy) (sung by Riya). I’d love to tell you more, but that would spoil the fun. The second insert song is called “A Small Hand” also by Riya. The final three episodes are OVAs. The first is an exploration of how Tomoya, Youhei, and Kyou all met in their junior year. The second is similar to the “Tomoyo Arc” from the first season. It’s “Kyou’s Arc” exploring what happens if Kyou had or rather hadn’t acted on her feelings for Tomoya. This episode and the final episode to the real story are my second and third favorites in the series. The final episode is a recap of the main story narrated by Tomoya. Well there it is…one of the finest Anime’s ever to be made. If you like drama…you MUST watch this, and I would recommend it to everyone regardless. It has its high points, full of joy and comedy. It also has its low points full of sadness and grief. Meaning that this should a be a quintessential set to own for anyone who considers them-self a fan. It’s also a good introduction to Anime for someone unfamiliar with the medium. I feel that this really shows of some of the best points of Japanese Animation. Also if subtitles aren’t your thing, the dubbed is soon to be released as well.

This product is great for drama lovers. The characters are full of life and keeps the scenario of drama throught the whole thing.
