I have been using the Cobra SC 250R Dash Cam for a few weeks now, and here is my take on it. The front camera records in 4K UHD, and the rear camera in 1080p. The footage is clear and detailed, making it easy to capture key details like license plates and road signs. The camera is small and does not obstruct my view. It is easy to install and fits neatly behind the rearview mirror. One advantage over other models is that the adhesive pad is a standard rectangle, which makes it easy to replace if needed. The setup was straightforward, and the 3-inch display is bright and easy to navigate. Although it is not a touchscreen, the four touch navigation buttons are intuitive. I prefer not having a touch screen due to the tactile response of physical buttons, as well as better control. It comes with 360-degree alerts, parking live view, incident reports, and emergency Mayday notifications. These features add a layer of security and convenience. While I did not think these features would be of value to me, I know think there are great value-added features. There have been times when the Drive Smarter app can be a bit finicky, especially if I am using my Cobra Radar Detector at the same time. The Cobra SC 250R Dash Cam has been a reliable addition to my car. The video quality is excellent, and the additional features provide peace of mind. Despite a few minor drawbacks, I would recommend this dash cam to anyone looking for a high-quality, easy-to-use device.

I've had a couple of dash cams but this is the first I've had with the front and remote mounted rear facing camera. Installation was extremely easy and if you've installed automotive speakers this install will be a piece of cake. Even the novice will be able to install this camera duo in less than an hour. It took me about 30 minutes. While the windshield mounting was simple I mounted the rear camera on the plastic trim above the reat window but, as with a lot of plastic trim, you need to prep it with an adhesion promoter before applying the double stick tape. I didn't have any handy (available at any autoparts store or online retailer) so I tried just using alcohol to clean the surface but unfortunately with the Texas summer heat it didn't take long to come loose. Now just waiting the the adhesion promoter to get it to stick permanently. You get power from a 12V cigarette lighter/power port however I think I'm going to opt for a more permanent installation and get the optional wiring kit. Once cables are run and power connected the dashcam came to life. Simply install the Drive Smarter app from our smartphone app store and you are almost ready to go but unfortunately you must have an account to use the software. Drive Smarter does include a GPS map with ability to get directions. If you enter a new address you can categorize it for future convenience. It will monitor your speed and send you incident alerts along your route. Otherwise the setup on the dashcam itself is pretty straight forward. Language, picture in picture screen setup. An added feature not found an many dashcams is If it is on constant power it will monitor the surroundings while parked for added security of your vehicle. Constant power meaning that it's not powered through the ignition circuit but rather the vehicle battery. If on ignition powered circuit you can not utilize the remote view using the Drive Smarter app from your phone. It has 4K front facing camera and the rear facing camera is 1080P. So the images are really clear on the dashcam display. It is works with Carplay and Android Auto if your vehicle is so equiped. This is a solid choice especially if you are a commuter. I live in a very large metropolitan area and I really needed something that not only watched out for me out the front of my car but also had my back.

Cobra SC250R dual camera dask cam. Box includes front unit and rear camera. The rear camera is connected by a long included wire. There is also a cigarette lighter adapter, mounting pads, and extra short cord. The unit includes and uses an SD card- suppled 32gb. The front window unit is mounted using mounting tape, and the front camera has an adjustable camera so its angle can be changed. Installing the front unit took some time as my windshield rake and bend required the dash cam to be in the dead center along with the rear view mirror and front mounted electronics. This meant the dash cam had to be below the rear view mirror with wires exposed, which was not my preference. Running the wires from the front unit to the rear was also quite a challenge, but eventually I got it figure out. I must say, that I am not a fan of the mounting tape and prefer the suction mount of the past. Mistakes are not easily fixed with the mounting tape. I also found that the full manual website was down for most of the time I was doing the install which made things difficult. The website was down all weekend. The camera requires downloading an app to get the full benefit of all the features, and is how the camera connects to the internet. The front picture quality was excellent as expected since it is 4K. The rear was acceptable but I did find headlights washing out the rear picture at night. If you wanted parking view and car bump security, it requires constant power and thus hard wiring. Also, wifi connection of some sort. That seemed to be ok in my drive way when connection with my home wifi, but the distance was not very good. The angle of the front screen made it difficult to see from the drivers seat especially when driving. All in all, I like the dashcam and look forward to being able to access full instructions to finish the set up. So far, the quality of the recordings and the physical unit seems very good. The operation is a bit quirky, and not as intuitive as I would have expected. The unit is feature packed, but will take some trail and error to understand them all.

I installed these in my 2024 Ford Maverick with everything included in the kit which I really like the setup straightforward to use and install. I purchased a aftermarket hardwire kit so everything's hidden away is best as can be especially the wiring I don't like having to use a 12 volt adapter with wires running across the dash in sight. I like this cobra front and rear dash cam setup it's easy to get going once installed and working the video is nice and clear I also like the parking mode for when your car is sitting in a parking lot and no one's around for peace of mind. Nicely included with the kit is a microSD card, which most manufacturers don't include at least in my experience as this isn't my first install of a front rear dash cam. The cables are plenty long enough with extra I ended up trimming them and splicing back together using solder and shrink tubing as I didn't want all the extra length of cable tucked under the dash or under the headliner. If you do purchase a aftermarket hardwire kit plan on the install taking just a little bit longer, I would estimate 20 to 30 minutes longer, but it's so worth it as they only thing you really can see if you look is the rear camera near the headliner and the front camera tuck behind the rear view mirror up front. When reviewing the footage on a larger monitor such as a computer or television you can easily make out license plate numbers and signage on road signs as well the camera footage is very clear weather day or night time. I would definitely recommend this to anybody in the market for a reasonably priced front and rear dash cam setup for their car whether new or older model.

I've been using the Cobra SC 250R Dash Cam for a week now, it does the job but there are some things that are lacking. That gives it a 4 star rating. Pros: - Clear Video Quality: The 4K video is crisp and clear, even in low-light conditions. 3in screen is just right - Wide-Angle Lens: The 140-degree lens captures a broad view of the road, providing valuable context in case of an incident. - The app Drive Smarter work well and sync easily with the camera. - Parking Mode: The dash cam's parking mode provides added security when my vehicle is stationary. Good feature but don’t know if I want this on all the time. Could drain the battery - great basic buy for someone looking for a simple setup - doesn’t take too much room on my windshield. Cons: - Mounting System: The adhesive mount could be stronger. Not sure with the heat in California it might come off - It’s a pain running the cable in my car for the rear camera. Wireless connection would be perfect - Come only with 32GB microSD card. With 4K resolution I would hope to have something bigger. -SD card limitation is 512GB. I think 2TB should be the standard. - Backup camera is only 1080p. Definitely recommend the Cobra SC 250R for anyone looking for a dash camera. You need a front and back camera now a days. Connecting to your phone is a must as well and the Cobra SC 250R does it all

I have been driving semi truck for over 21 years and have owned a lot of dashcams and unfortunately every time i got one it fell short of my expectations or it was an off brand that lasted about a month if i got lucky. And anyone who has driven semi knows if an accident happens its automatically the semi truck drivers fault, Tell now. So I'm not driving semi truck anymore but i hooked this up to my Toyota 4 Runner and it was so simple and easy to install and get up and running. It took me all of maybe 15 minutes from out of the box to up and running. The back camera was as simple as running the way longer than needed wire through the roof panel with the included tool to pull it away enough to run the wire along the panel were it hooks to the molding and its a simple plug in at both ends and done. The front unit hooks to the windshield with the included tape and its very sturdy as in it's not just going to fall off. Once you power it up you follow some on screen prompts and set it to your liking. Also i already had the drive smarter app but there is an irq code you can scan to take you to the download. I highly recommend the app because you can control and cobra product with the app and it's also very easy to install. I have mine with a pic in pic so i can see both the front camera and the rear but you can set it to only show front or rear or rear as main pic and front secondary or vice versa. In a nutshell very well made easy to set up and operate. Love it.

A good camera with some poor ergonomic choices

I've had various dash cameras for about 10 years now across multiple different vehicles, and this was the first one that had me asking "why did they do that?" As a camera, it works pretty well but not great. 4k front resolution and 1080P rear, which is good enough to capture license plates when you need it. If you only have the front camera connected it can do 4k@60fps, which is great! If you connect the rear, it can then only do both 4k & 1080P at 25 fps, that's a major let down. I'd even be good with 30 on the front and 25 on the rear but 25 on both, you really do notice the judder during playback. Competitors in this price bracket can do both channels at 30hz. The wireless connectivity is a great feature that I haven't experienced yet with previous cameras. Being able to download files from the device to my phone easily is SO MUCH better than having to pop a micro SD card into my computer. This would happen to any camera, so just a call out, but if you do wireless carplay or android auto, you have to disconnect from them first since both are done via WiFi and your phone likely can only connect to one at a time. The app even tells you if you're connected to CarPlay and says to disconnect to get into media mode. You can adjust settings on the device from the app without having to drop WiFi, which I like. Really my biggest complains are in the ergonomic decisions of the device itself. The mount only slides on from right to left which limits it's placement since it can be blocked by modern ADAS systems and inhibit the ability to actually install the camera onto the mount. So your choices in that case are either below the mirror and ADAS system cameras, or on the passenger side. I much prefer to keep cameras hidden behind the mirror, so mine is up on the passenger side where I can only see the wires running up to the headliner. I don't need to see the display when it is recording in the background and can be viewed remotely. Plus the heads up features are available in CarPlay. If you lack carplay and modern ADAS systems, you should mount it in a position you can see the screen, if you want to take advantage of those features. Which I get the impression they really want you to use. Next is the rear camera. Installation is easy if you know what you're doing, the cable isn't thick making it easy to tuck it behind headliners and trim panels. My issue is the size of the rear camera. It's quite large once installed. It's about the size of an old prescription pill bottle, which makes it a bit distracting to see in the rear view. I opted to install it off to the side a bit due to how large it is. Another unfortunate choice here is that the rear camera can't be removed without pealing the tape off the window. My car has factory sunshades that can be popped in or out. They have a wire frame and mesh insert, but because camera can't be removed at all, I unfortunately can no longer use the rear shade. My last gripe is that a CPL or polarized filter isn't even an option. At this price I don't expect it to be included, but to not offer it at all is a major let down. This means that windshield glare is inevitable and there isn't anything you can do about it. You could potentially miss important details here because your dashboard's reflection got in the way. I really wanted to like this, and I wanted the modern connectivity and app features to really sell me, but the installation limitations really bummed me out. If you don't care about any of that stuff, then as a camera it does just fine. You're better off having one than not even if it isn't great, and it can record license plate numbers, assuming the window glare doesn't get in your way.

I have had this dashboard camera installed in my work vehicle for a week now and although the first use with was not what I was expecting, I am happy with the quality of video from the main front camera. The rear camera is hit or miss while not having the best resolution in darker situations but it also doesn't have great resolution during the day. The rear camera didn't quite have enough clarity to see license plates but enough clarity to cover you in case of an accident if you need to submit video to your insurance company. There is a feature that alerts you of radar spots which on my first use was quite annoying. The notifications were popping up \ every second on my drive and it would not stop. I found that this was probably an error with the app or people reporting speed traps that were not there. I did not hard wire my device but there is an option to hardwire for continuous monitoring while parked which is neat if you park in a high risk area or you plan on leaving your vehicle unattended for long hours. Overall, the dash cam serves its purpose and watching the video back through the phone app is seamless and simple. I also like that they included the SD card which is a little difficult to remove from the camera but glad I didn't have to purchase separately.

I'll get right to the point on this one, I'm a bit disappointed with this product. I wanted to get in the dash camera game, especially in today's world where everything needs to be documented. If you get in an accident , or someone just happens to try and use you for insurance fraud, a dash cam can be a lifesaver. Heck this product actually DOES do a good job in the dash camera department. 4K video which is really clear and easy to see. It even includes a rear camera to record any rear end collisions you may encounter. Again your word vs. the other drivers. They might rear end you, but say you braked and somehow it's your fault. This would help you prove that it was in fact, not your fault. Only downside with the rear camera is that it's not 4K like the front camera. Still works for what it will be used for. So why am I disappointed? Why only 3 stars? Well, this is advertised as tracking radar and being a radar detector. Heck the main picture of the product when you first click on this link or do a search is the main camera unit screen showing red and saying "police spotted" and "radar detected". So I figured "wow I can get a dash cam AND a radar detector in one". Radar detection is something I could definitely use. I find myself running late alot to work and sometimes driving a bit too fast to not make my boss angry, so any help spotting police would be great. I don't get paid enough to also get a $300 ticket. So I was hoping this could help me. To me this is a little bit of false advertising and you really do need to read about this product to see what you are getting. Does it track radar? Yes, sort of. This product is not a 1 stop shop for the radar detection. You cannot plug it in, go for a drive, and immediately get radar notifications and alerts. What you need to do to make that happen, is download an app (extra step) called the drive smarter app. You have to go through a whole setup to connect the app to your dash cam. Once you do that and only then apparently, is when you get the radar alerts also known as "360 alerts" in the drive smarter app. But every time you start your vehicle, you have to first open up the drive smarter app and wait for it to connect to the dash cam. So a bit annoying. It should be built in. And honestly, I'm not sure how well the "360 alerts" or radar alerts actually work? I couldn't find much in the instruction manual or anything on the app. I have used this for 2 weeks and have only had 2 yes TWO alerts ever pop up, and I drive to and from work everyday. The first was a blue "K" alert, which I think is some other type of emergency service radar besides police, and the one time I had an actual red "K" alert for police like the listing picture shows, it was apparently a reported alert by another drive smarter app user, and when I got to the spot there was not a cop there. The icing on the cake, was I drove past a cop one day, no alerts. I also just yesterday driving home from work had a cop right behind me for most of the way, and no alerts. So what is the point of this? Does it, or does it not pick up law enforcement and is it only in certain situations? Would be nice to know the answer to this up front instead of feeling flustered having to do endless research to try and find an answer to what should be an easy question. Or is it that the only "alerts" this picks up are when users report them? The radar is the thing that really bugs me, and why I took off 2 stars. After 2 weeks of using this product I should have a solid understanding of what this does and doesn't do, and I find it really hard to answer that in regards to the radar functions. I also don't know if the radar only works if I enter navigation details into the drive smarter app, or if the radar works on it's own just with the drive smarter app open? Will have to read through endless reviews to see if any other users have a solution to this question. As far as the rest of the features, they are pretty good. Like mentioned the camera quality itself is 4K so really good there. Installation was relatively easy for me. The kit came with both cameras, some really sticky adhesive tape to mount both cameras, the power cords, some wire clips, and a plastic tool to help remove the door and dash trim if need be. I will say please do yourself a favor and take the time to install this properly. HIDE YOUR CORDS. Don't be one of those people that just mounts the camera on the windshield, then just plugs in the plug to the 12v port and leaves all the cords dangling and messy. That just looks terrible. I spent about 30 minutes running the cords properly in the A pillars and upper trim and managed to get everything hidden and looking professional. The other feature which I mentioned above briefly is the ability of GPS turn by turn navigation using the drive smarter app. Yes there are other apps that can be used (google maps, apple maps, etc), and alot of cars with smart features have these built into the vehicle dash screen these days. So I guess IF you have an older vehicle that doesn't have that, this would be helpful. and I guess if you do have a smart vehicle the drive smarter app will work with apple play and other systems to put the info right on your vehicle screen. When you load up the drive smarter app and enter your destination, the GPS turn by turn info appears right on your dash cam screen showing you how far to go and also has voice instructions. Another downside is the main camera screen that you mount to your windshield is about 3" wide. Pretty tiny and hard to see. Plus it's not touch screen. It has these 4 buttons that run along the bottom, that you have to tap to make choices on the screen. A bit annoying at times as you might think you are pushing one button but end up pushing a different one by mistake. All 4 buttons are the same exact button and color so nothing distinguishes them apart. Overall if you want just a good dash cam with good video quality and includes a rear camera, this is a good product. BUT if you are looking for something with radar detection as well, I would pass on this and keep looking.

Thank you for your review and for choosing Cobra. The SC 250R is designed to receive shared and community alerts, including radar notifications and police sightings, among others. By connecting the camera to the Drive Smarter app via Bluetooth, it will begin to receive these alerts, which are either transmitted to the cloud by other users and devices or reported directly by them. It's important to understand that the presence of a police vehicle does not necessarily indicate the use of radar. The Cobra SC 250R dual view front and rear dash camera is an excellent choice if you're in the market for a dual view dash camera. I already had the SC 220 in my daughters truck and I really liked how easy it was to install and setup in there, so I decide to try the SC 250R in my 2021 Ram 1500 Laramie. I liked the fact that it's 4K and also have more options to place the separate cabin/rearview camera. Let me just say that it was a bit more challenging install in my truck. Specifically because there is only one 12V cigarette lighter type outlet, and it's on the top of the dash, so if you want to be able to easily disconnect the SC 250R, you're going to have a lot of wires out in the open making it look kind of messy in my opinion. That's not what I wanted, so I opted to hardwire it to a circuit that comes on with the truck, making for a cleaner looking install. Another minor issue is that I have a sliding back window, and can not place the camera in the middle of the window to get an ideal view. I should also mention that the 2021 Ram's have a fairly large rearview camera assembly that takes up a lot of real estate in the middle of the windshield, so placement was a bit tricky. I first placed the main camera next to the mirror on the drivers side, but I realized that the SC 250R slides off in the direction towards the rearview mirror so I decided to place it directly under the rearview, centering the camera. Thankfully there was extra two way tape included. I also opted to place the rearview camera on the back window just next to the sliding window. It's not ideal, but either way it would be off center, and it doesn't interfere with the sliding window. The SC 250R uses the Drive Smarter app. The app is mainly a GPS, but gives you "360 Alerts", which are radar, speed, and red light cameras. It will also allow you to update firmware OTA. You also have access to cloud video management as well as the onboard videos that are stored on the included 32GB micro SD card. You get a lot in this package. After getting it all setup, I'm glad I did it. I have peace of mind now when driving knowing that I could potentially have video proof in case something goes wrong.

Just the right size to not get in the way, but not to small that you have to squint to see what's on the screen. The controls are touch actuated, so you don't end up with fingerprints all over your screen. A 32GB MicroSD card is included, and the cabling was long enough to reach from one end of our Grand Cherokee L to the other so that both cameras were active. The Grand Cherokee L doesn't have a cigarette lighter jack up front (go figure?) so I picked up an aftermarket ODB2 port to USB-C power adapter so I didn't have to use up the hot commodity USB ports in the front seat of the vehicle. Picture clarity is spot on - very very clear and crisp. I do have concerns about how much video will be stored on a 32GB card, especially when you add in the optional audio recording - I think I'll be picking up a larger MicroSD card, but for many people, I think 32GB will do the job just fine. My preference tends to lean towards longer retention while still keeping the resolution at the highest settings, so larger will be better for me. The app - I don't hate it, but I won't go out of my way to use it either...,Apps like this have come a long way, but there are other apps available that have community-sourced data as well that are completely free and can be displayed on your Android Auto/Apple Carplay screen. A nice, well-rounded package though. These days a dash-cam is a must-have device - this one is a definite keeper!

Thank you for the great review! The Drive Smarter app is free with a compatible device, such as the SC 250R and not only provides shared and community alerts, but also allows you to access all of your dash camera settings directly through the app. If you have any questions about your camera or the Drive Smarter app, please feel free to contact us at 800-543-1608. cedarelectronics-cobra

Great, responsive dash cam with loads of features once you get it all working. Since there are so few, I will start with the negatives. First, there is no battery. In the past cams I have owned, having a few seconds after powering down has been useful. I plan to hardwire the camera to the battery to somewhat accommodate that need, but it would be useful to have a battery in the event I forget the charger, etc. Second, the "buttons" take getting used to vs "feeling" like it should be a touch screen, but that will fade with time. Now, the great. Crystal clear video on both cameras. I can see it all. License plates, signs, etc. Video can be easily uploaded if needed through app. Once connected to a hotspot (I tether from my phone) you get all the extra bells and whistles from the surrounding areas. Speed traps, red light cameras, and other bonuses that sync with the app. T The app is very responsive, intuitive and is a great companion to the camera. Gallery view, live traffic and warnings, and mapping. Similar to Google Maps and Waze, but having it sync directly to the dash cam has been more useful that I would have originally thought. Having a dash cam that has integrated safety and warning features has proven itself to be extremely useful, especially since driving is becoming more and more chaotic where I live. Of the many cameras I have owned in the past, this one definitely ranks at the top. Just get it hardwired.

The Cobra 4K DashCam is amazing. It was very easy to install. It was easy to set up. The Dashcam is very user-friendly and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great Dashcam. What makes it so great? Well let's talk about how easy it was to set up, out of the box it gives you what you need to connect it and configure it to your liking. It comes with an SD Card which is a huge plus because out of the three dash cams I own, this is the only one with its own SD Card. So there in and of itself is a huge plus in my book. Once the dash cam was configured the way I wanted it, it was as simple as turning it on and downloading the app. I followed the instructions on the App and configured the dash cam settings the way I wanted it to be set and I was up and running in less than 20 minutes (it took a little bit for me to place the rear camera due to wanting it to be perfect). Like I stated before this dash cam was great and I am super happy with it. It's an easy five stars for me.

Great concept but misses the mark in some ways

The Cobra 4K Dual-View Front & Rear Dash Cam comes jammed packed with features, but also missed the mark in some crucial ways. This is my 4th dash cam, and what really is intriguing is the dual view options. You can tell Cobra really put a lot of thought into features like navigation, traffic camera alerts, and even police detection. Out of the box can be a bit overwhelming, even for someone who has had prior experience running cables, and getting one setup. The instructions leave a lot to be desired, and you do have the option to scan a QR code for more. Cobra sends you everything that you need, and that even includes an SD card already installed. The cameras are powered by plugging it into your auxiliary power outlet (cigarette lighter), so in order to peer the rear camera you do have to run the power cord to the back of your car, in my case SUV. Having to run that cable under the panel of my floorboards is a lot for someone with a larger vehicle, especially if you want it to look clean and not see the wire. This is something to think about for people who aren’t tech/installation savvy. Once I finally was able to get both cameras setup with help, I realized the picture quality left a little to be desired especially the rear camera quality. Overall, the Cobra 4K Dual-View Front & Rear Dash Cam gets the job done, and will do a good enough job watching the back and front of your vehicle with enough quality to catch license plates.

Works great for me. The 4K video is the best I've seen. You get remote live view, but I didn't hardwire my camera. Videos download to the phone

I have had to contact Cobra via emails or phone for many things, which should've been explained in the really vague "instructions." My SD card was full, and i thought this thing overwrites the sd card? The buttons are too hard to find and locate. They make it sound like you can do everything from your phone, which BTW adds more electronic chaos to driving!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. The SC 250R is designed for easy operation. By pairing your camera via Bluetooth with our Drive Smarter app, you can easily access your camera settings and video recordings. Once the SD card is full, the dash cam will continuously overwrite the oldest footage recorded with recent recordings. To protect a clip so that it will not be overwritten, press the Action Button so that the clip is moved into the locked content partition. An Emergency Recording is triggered when the Action Button is pressed or when the G-Sensor
registers a significant impact. Emergency Recordings create locked files that are not overwritten by the loop recording. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us at 800-543-1608. We're happy to help! cedarelectronics-cobra
