Crimson Peak is a movie I looked forward to for a long time. Guillermo del Toro is such a talent behind the camera, and his direction here is great. Although I enjoyed the movie, it wasn't quite what I expected. It was marketed as an intense horror movie when really it's a gothic, period-piece, dark romance. I would compare the misrepresentation to how The Village was marketed. Everyone expected it to be super scary when it was really a love story. If you go into this movie expecting it to be the scariest movie you've ever seen, you'll be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a tragic romance, this is great. (Also, there are some scary parts)

Love this amazing edition of crimson peak! Worth the price!

This movie is the latest from Guiliermo del Toro, and it is a movie that takes it time to unravel though it may be possible to guess the secrets for savvy enough viewers. It is a beautiful film, and the sets and costumes are extravagant as they are meaningful if you're willing to look closely. The plot could be a bit more twisted and complicated but it works for what is wants to achieve. It is NOT A GOTHIC HORROR, despite its appearance. It has chilling moments but never an overwhelming dread, as it is a Gothic Romance is dedicated to exploring psyche as much as relationships and characters.

Guillermo Del Toro killing it as always! Love this movie

I had expected Crimson Peak to be a terrifying film from what I saw in the trailers, but quite honestly, it wasn't. Although I certainly enjoyed it--the cinematography is quite beautiful and very rich in detail, color, etc. Watching this movie is kind of like watching a storybook with living illustrations--the costumes are gorgeous and the actors are wonderful in their roles. Absolutely worth watching and owning; the Blu-ray quality was amazing as well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anybody who enjoys gothic horror or just a good story in general.

Great acting and a dark, twisted story are the main ingredients of this gothic film. There's a sense of malevolence in the air, counteracted by one of innocence. A sense of mystery, danger, and oblivion fill the air. An atmosphere so toxic, the characters can help but succumb to it. Miss Chastain and Miss Wasikowska are the perfect match for each other in a tale of blood, greed, insidious love, and revenge. Guillermo del Toro has a special understanding of dark places, mysterious characters, cryptic stories, and sinister worlds.

HUGE Tom Hiddleston fan. This movie is a great watch.

The trailer to this movie was deceiving. It makes it out to be a bit more of a horror story. There is a horror element, but it is more of a classic tale of deception, love, money, and a twisted family background. Del Toro does make great movies so the story was good, the visuals were good, but it was just a little lacking when it came to depth and overall story. His early work is his best and this is a must see, but I hope for more and better in the future with his filmography.

Take a story about a girl who marries the brother of a creepy brother-sister duo and have her live in their creepy, decrepit mansion...right!...nothing particularly original but solid nonetheless. Then add Del Toro and you have a movie that is visually stunning! While the story seems a bit rushed, the mansion's design is incredible and the ghosts, while few, are pretty jarring and not for the faint-hearted. A solid B to B+ movie.

One thing I love about Del Toro movies is his ability to take the horror genre and turn it into something beautiful. This is a FANTASTIC film, but if you are looking for a well made horror movie with cheap scares, this is not for you. Del Toro never uses cheap scares, which is much appreciated by a horror movie fan like myself. There are definitely horror themes to this movie, but the story does not specifically center around the ghosts. The ghosts are a wonderful plot moving device. I also love the fact that Del Toro uses practical effects. The ghosts are all a person in a suit with light CGI to give them a flowy ethereal look. I would highly recommend this for anyone.

The imagery sold me on this movie, but it didn't have the kind of scares I was hoping for. Was hoping for more of a fantastical element, but this one seemed to go for more realistic scares, which I can appreciate, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Can't really say much else without spoiling it. Del Toro really hasn't hit it out of the park for me yet, but I appreciate his craftsmanship. Worth a look, but don't expect The Shining.

I am a HUGE fan of Guillermo Del Toro and firmly believe that he has made some masterpieces (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy). This is not one of them. The acting is excellent but I feel that the film never truly takes off, even a bit boring in places. That being said, it is still worth watching and owning, if only for how visually stunning it is (sort of reminds me of an amusement park haunted house).

Like the main character says in the film about her writing, "this isn't a ghost story. It's a story with ghosts in it." The film is spooky and he an intriguing romantic thriller vibe to it. Del Torro's penchant for amazing production design is on full blast too. The scenery, ghosts, and costumes are all fantastic. Not quite as scary or thrilling as I had hoped, but it's still a great film.

I missed this in theaters and bought the Blu-Ray without reading reviews and was very happy I bought it. I love the old Hammer horror movies and am always looking for gothic style horror movies. This one didn't disappoint! Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska were great in this. If you like ghost stories without a lot of unneccssary death and dismemberment, this is the movie for you.

It was pretty good ghost story/murder mystery. A few scares made me jump, and it had a few truly gory moments. The storyline was interesting, the setting was beautiful, the acting was pretty good. Of course, there are plot holes here and there, and it does drag on sometimes. But the setting really makes the movie. If you like period horror mystery stories, you'll love this one.

If your familiar with Guillermo del Toro work and style then you won't be disappointed. You can easily confuse this with that of Tim Burton, but there are differences that set them apart. The story will keep you guessing of what is going on in Crimson Peak till the end. Plus this movie is a good example why everyone should have health insurance too. The acting was great and believable. The sound and set were truly alive awe inspiring. The shots and composition were truly amazing as well. If you enjoy movies like Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy your in for a good treat.
