Well at first I wanted to chuck this game in the trash it was very hard in the beginning. But after dying what seemed like 100 times and doing some research and ranking up I began to love this game. It is very hard at first if you have not played any Souls games before like me. I went on you tube and watched dozens of videos just to get the feel of things. Patience is the key to this game. It can be frustrating at the start before you get any good gear. Now I can't stop playing. Highly recommended, if you want a challenge.

From the same studio that brought us the masterpiece Bloodborne, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is a nice upgrade (mostly in the visuals) from the original DS2. If you enjoyed Bloodborne, chances are you'll be satisfied with this game as well. The action is slower, but more methodical. Compared to BB, there is a nice variety of weapons and magic that will drastically impact your gameplay experience. If you are looking for more Souls action after BB until DS3 releases next year, this is definitely worth checking out.

Dark Souls 2 may be the most divisive game in the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls series. The normal Souls game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, was only an adviser for Dark Souls 2 (he went on to make the critically acclaimed Bloodborne during this time). Miyazaki's absence (the lack of his clear direction, combat philosophy, and level design expertise) definitely shows.
Dark Souls 2 makes questionable design choices, from the addition of an Agility stat that you have to raise in order for dodging to actually function correctly when Demon's Soul, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne dodging was dependent on equipment weight and / or player skill. Although it makes sense for a character that's more agile to dodge attacks easier, it's not fun in a game. Having to dedicate 20 levels or so to raise this stat when you just want to play, and you're already used to the other Souls mechanics, is really not fun. Details from the recent;ly announced Dark Souls 3 (with Miyazaki back at the helm) reveal that the Agility stat is being done away with.
Another Dark Souls 2 mechanic DS3 is doing away with is Soul Memory, which matches online players by the total amount of Souls they've gathered rather than matching them by similar level.
Dark Souls 2 also seems to depend more on cheap ambushes and group attacks more than the other Souls games, which more relied on fair combat (1 on 1 battles or the ability to deal with the numbers through effective use of the terrain).
Even with those faults, it's the Souls game I've spent the longest with. You are flooded choice, from magic, to gear, to weapons, weapon & gear customization. Starting a new game after beating DS2 the first time, adds more items and enemies.
And with all of the extra downloadable expansions included on the disc, there even more great content to dive into. In fact, I think the extra dlc areas are the best content in the game from a level design perspective.
Get the game and lose yourself for 100's of hours if your not careful and have the time.

Incredibly beautiful yet punishing game world that stretches your gamer muscles in a way that hasn't been done since Symphony of the Night. I love the level of openness in this title. The combat is a bit slower compared to other souls titles but that makes it a lot harder to get used to in those early hours. Not recommended for anyone who doesn't have the patience to learn a completely obtuse game system but those who are up to the challenge are in for a treat

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin - PlayStation 4
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin - PlayStation 4
On the well-worn path made smooth by the mainstream, the human species plods mindlessly, pursuing happiness. Except, that is, for a certain few — the divergent, the complex, the Dark Souls. Mesmerized by the macabre, transfixed by torment, these souls seek completion in hopelessness, despair and impending doom — where true fortitude is earned

Even if it's not made by the original Demon and Dark Souls team, and it's a HD remake, it's still a great game.
If you've recently played Bloodborne and wonder if you should pick this up, yes you should as Demon AND Dark Souls 1 if you haven't played them.
All these games are great and can stand on it's own.
This HD remix runs at 1080p and 60 frames, and it's going to keep you entertained for a LONG time same with the other games in the Souls series.

If you want a frustratingly difficult game, this is almost that. This is still difficult, but not as rage quitting as the original. And all the DLC is on the disc

The Souls games are great for anyone who isn't afraid of a challenge and a bit of grinding. There just aren't very many modern games out there that provide a sense of enjoyable difficulty like some retro games did back in the day. This version is an upgrade from the previous gen original and it was well done. I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants something that was not made for the casual gaming crowd.

I'm a big fan of the Souls series, while the first Dark souls is probably my favorite of the two, I spent the most time playing this one. Making builds, new characters, it still has appeal after playing it again and again. The graphical enhancements on this next gen version look amazing. Not to mention the new enemy layout, new invaders, all of these thing make this a fresh and very challenging experience.
