This game has superb action. Arguably a top 3 metrovania game on the Nintendo switch. This is a must have game in your collection.

If you are a big fan of games like Super Metroid but have gotten tired of playing those games over and over you are in luck, as the game is different every playthrough due to the Roguelite nature of the game. My main gripe is that the actual areas you go into never change (other than the pathways) if you stay on the same path but once you unlock new abilities you are able to access new areas and that is where the game really opens up, all in all it is a great game and being able to own it physically is a treat.

2D Fluid Action. Rinse. Repeat

The combat in Dead Cells is fast and fluid, varied by the random weapons you find along the way. You expand that library through a roguelike grind where you die, come back and try again. But as you improve you’ll live longer, get farther. Overall the gameplay loop is fast and engaging and hard to put down once it clicks. If you get stuck I recommend trying another path. The level layouts are random but the path from world to world doesn’t change, so trying another world really helped keep it fresh.

A Little Overhyped

This game got rave reviews and even a Game of the Year nomination. In my opinion, it was over-hyped. Was it a bad game? No. I enjoyed it for the first 10 hours or so. But after that, it became a grind. Yes, it’s challenging. Yes, that pushed me to beat it. Yes, I did finish it. But I can’t say I enjoyed beating it. This was my first venture into the Roguelike genre though, and I can’t say that genre’s for me. The repitition felt like a constant grind. If you like those games... this may be the best of the bunch as the actual gameplay was immensely fun.

This game is meant for you to die and learn from your mistakes. As you play you’ll unlock new weapons to start out with and gain powers as you go. The powers which have a different name in game are permanent once unlocked. They allow you to access parts of a level you couldn’t before. It takes small steps in order tonmove on to the next level. Overall its a great mix of a rogue like game with maps changing every game run.

Great game but can be brutal to have to start from the beginning every time you die. Plays great on the switch.

I bought this game thinking I would hate it because of the game play style but was I very wrong, I kept dying alot but every time I would get a little further it would kill me and make me want to see how much farther I could go and if I could beat the next enemy or boss which most games like this would make me rage quit and never play again but this one makes it fun and invites you to keep playing

Come on, if you haven't heard of this game, you are probably living under a rock. lol
Dead Cells is a Metroidvania style game, done in pixel art, so it has a retro feel to it. The semi-permadeath can be a pain in the neck, but it doesn't stop you from playing. It CAN be addictive...
This is an EXCELLENT game to have for the Nintendo Switch, especially now that the hard copy is available.
