An old school challenge with new age fluidity

This may be, by far, the best game I've played and will play this year. The game punishes you for dying, but the music and fast pace keeps you coming back for more. Essentially, you have 12 levels or so to run through. Unlike most games now a days that simply delay you with a load screen back to where you are, if you die at all during the game you are sent back to square one. Upgrades that you've spent cells on are retained but progress, gold, and weapons are not unless you've unlocked them. This game brings the punishment and enjoyment that you had from old school NES games like Mega Man 2. If you are looking for a challenge, I'd highly recommend starting here.

One flaw ruins the entire game

The one flaw that ruins this game is that if you die, you have to start the entire game all over again (Much like Rogue Stormers). I am not sure why developers think it is fun playing the same level over and over, but if I don't feel like I am making progress in a game, I am not having fun.
As far as the character movements and combat. Everything is fluid and responsive. It has the retro feel of the old castlevania games. The graphics, unfortunately, aren't great but for this type of game they are passable.
I believe there is around 12 levels of this game. And if you die on say level 10, you have to start again at level 1. You are allowed to keep some things like gold, but who cares. You just lost all your progress by dying.
And yes, I know some players love a challenge. Well, have different difficulty levels then. The hardcore gamers can brag when they beat the game on a higher difficulty, but why punish the casual gamer that just wants to have some fun exploring these levels and fighting things?
And this is coming from someone that has finished all the Dark Souls games. At least in those games, when you died, you didn't lose progress on every area you explored or things you unlocked.
Either way, if you think you will like replaying the same levels over and over again, then enjoy! For me, I rather be having a root canal.
