I came close to passing up on this game but boy...

I came close on passing up on this game but boy I'm glad I didn't... It's an amazing experience which I never thought I would enjoy. When I first played the game, I have no clue what's going on or who my enemies are... It was a chaotic mess trying to figure out the inventory and how to organize them. Sometimes I had forgot to bring the items to my quest which I then had to go back and grab them... I was fed up and decided I would sale the game to Book Off but since they were closed due to the pandemic, I tried to give the game one last chance. I was determine to learn how to optimize my inventory, how to read the map properly, how to use certain items during my journey and figure out how to avoid/fight BT's and terrorist groups. And wow, glad I gave it a second chance, I'm loving it, the graphics, music, storyline and game-play are all superb. This is an amazing game and I like it better than Metal Gear Solid series. I'm playing this on a PS4 Pro with 4K 75" TV, the graphics is beautiful!! So bottom like is there's a deep learning curve to the game but once you past that and progress further, you'll see where the game shines.

Long time Kojima fan, but I did not like this game

First off, story has always been the draw for me when it comes to Kojima's previous games, but I found this one lacking. I felt it was ridiculous in ways no MGS game was. It often felt like the game was actively challenging my suspension of disbelief. A lot of the moments meant to be hard hitting often felt unearned. The lack of on-screen time spent developing the characters made it hard to care about what happened to them. I ended the game really only sort of liking two of the characters, maybe 3, and hating almost all the rest. Interactions with NPCs felt empty. I admit that I may have gotten more out of the characters if I read the novel worth of supplemental text and npc emails, but it's not written in a way that makes me want to really dig into the content. Reading an actual novel would be a more worthwhile experience imo. I was willing to give the gameplay a chance, but imo it remained tedious, frustrating, and unrewarding throughout. Spending many hours developing upgrades and equipment does ease some of the struggle the simplest actions invoke, but it still feels unrewarding when even walking in a straight line on a gentle slope in many cases still causes you to tumble over. The vehicles help, but the often inexplicable physics tend to blunt their effectiveness on anything but roads. The game always seems to stand in the way of its more interesting ideas being enjoyable. There's definitely a metaphor about life in there, but while it intent seems to be "the struggle is worth it," more often than not it left me feeling nihilistic. The online mechanics seem interesting on paper, and can make the game experience marginally more reasonable, but without the ability to actively coordinate and communicate, it often feels hollow. The placement of other player items might as well have been generated by a rogue-like randomizing algorithm. I didn't feel that the "likes" system made up for this. If you build the roads, you get buckets of likes in a batch without knowing who sent them, and the structures you try carefully placing largely get ignored by other players (which likely has to do with how your structures take time to propagate to other players' worlds and are shared randomly, preventing coordination). There's definitely a message sent about the importance of making human connections, but this is presented as "connections" ("likes" that you can't actually do anything with) with NPC characters that have paper-thin depth and the faceless internet masses. There are some upsides, hence the second star I gave this game. For one, the visuals are fantastic (with the caveat that the facial expression animations often dip well into the uncanny valley). And secondly, the music is absolutely fantastic (with the caveat that you barely ever get to hear it, since it only plays in certain points, each track plays only once, and there is a music player but it can only be used in a non-gameplay "mode"). I do greatly appreciate the game for introducing me to these musicians, however. If you approach this game with a sort of academic mindset, you might get more out of it than I did. As game for people who love both inventive and satisfying mechanics and a straightforward but rich and impactful story that doesn't require immense leaps of logic to follow, I can't recommend this game.

Definitely wont be for everyone but I think after playing for about 6hrs I got hooked on the delivering and rebuilding the world mechanic this game has. Love the story especially the last few hrs of the game as everything is revealed on how things are connected. Love the graphics. The music was amazing and fitting to the scenery. Reccomend this to anyone looking for a unique experience and storytelling.

This game is all about the crazy, good story which is great as it is loaded with a lot of dialogue. The gameplay is good and the graphics are amazing. That said, it's not a bang, bang, shoot'em game with tons of action. The first 4-5 hours are a little slow and you do have to backtrack a bit much at times, I'd give it 4.5 stars.

Been wanting to play this game for awhile and finally got some to it. I have read good and bad reviews regarding this game, but I came in with an open mind. That being said it is a different experience and it is drawn out at certain times, but the sorry keeps me in it. I'm enjoying it

Another great title from Hideo Kojima. The story is wild yet the core gameplay may not be entertaining nor engaging for a lot of people. You are essentially a porter delivering goods with sci-fi and supernatural elements mixed in. Quite a long game. The bulk of your time can be easily spent setting up paths to make the game easier for others on their journey.

Hideo Kojima has always previously been ties to a higher authority, yet he still brought us the MGS series. Now, his hands and mind were free to create a masterfully crafted story with intelligent choices of gameplay. Visually stunning with the help of the Decima engine this game will blow your mind. Read reviews after you play and I think most will agree, this game has GOTY written all over it.

    Smartly Strange and Wonderfully Weird!

All I can say about this game is that it is UNLIKE any game I’ve ever played before. It is definitely unique, and love it or hate it, the sheer fact that it is something new and fresh and not just another SOS (help, help, the Same Old Shooter) is glorious! If you’ve read other reviews, I’m sure by now you know that it is basically a UPS man simulator set in a super funky supernatural sci-fi apocalypse. The level of depth of the world story is pretty impressive. The cut scenes are MANY, and prepare to grab some popcorn, because they are mini-movies in themselves. They answer some questions about the history and plot, BUT they only peel back a little onion layer of weird each time. Throughout the game you’ll also find some true oddities (hidden and not so hidden) in both the story and game play that will make some people laugh out loud and leave others scratching their head. As for me, I did a bit of both. Is it frustrating at times? YES! Do I feel like I should be getting a paycheck (with health insurance benefits) from Hideo Kojima for grunting my way through delivering all these freaking packages. YES! Is it fun? Surprisingly... yes! Am I addicted to it? Pretty much. If you like feeling absorbed into a world, even if that world can feel isolated and hair-pulling at times AND if you like some smartly strange story telling, then this could be the game for you.

    Kojima's Complete Masterpiece

This game is fantastic, but certainly not for everyone. A moderate amount of inventory management, light survival elements, and small amount of base building is in this game. If you only like a straight forward action game, this will not be for you. The sense of going on a journey and the beauty of the story is what sets this apart. I would suggest not "bingeing" this game. It could get monotonous. Instead, play bit by bit, rest when your character rests, and pick up long sessions when the mood strikes. There is a lot more to it than walking, but most who criticize it for that are watching the first few hours of the game. The game has large shifts of how the game is played in two distinct places, creating a feeling of "thirds". The first third is heavy on story and introduction to gameplay. The second is an evolution of the gameplay that continues to introduce new elements until you are well seasoned. The final third is a fast paced journey through the story like a Metal Gear game. In the middle third, you can complete the map, do all your errands, earn trophies, etc. or you can clean them up after completing the story. It is good to see a developer try something different. Even better, to bring AAA quality to an endeavor like this is so rare.

The game has many interesting features, story lines, technical info such as issues of balance on rocks and slippery surfaces, carry limitations, restroom visits, crazy creatures, and other dangers such as acid rain, and bandits. The game takes some attention stamina and patience, but I think it's worth it.

A Game That Teaches You To Slow Down

This isn't a game that requires fast reaction, rather, it requires patience. Most of the gameplay is walking around as you work to deliver goods to people. Yes, it is a delivery man simulator but it's much more than that. The story is key in games like these and I have to say the pacing is good and if you're into sci-fi, this will be right up at your alley. It's so different than any other game I've played. It's refreshing, it's innovative, and you can tell a lot of passion went into producing this game. Give it a try. It's a bit slow in the beginning but picks up after you finish the introductory missions that teaches you the mechanics. Lastly, I find the game to be relaxing and stress relieving. I like games like Apex Legends too but those games can be stressful too. Thanks for reading my review. Have fun gaming!

...but it is definitely NOT for everyone. If you're a fan of a slow-burning, thoughtfully crafted open-world experience that takes patience and dedication, then you will be rewarded playing Death Stranding. A simple concept executed perfectly, with a intriguing story that will keep you hooked until the very end. Highly recommended

It is a great game, but its not for a casual gamer... It's hard to recommend it, unless you are kind of hardcore and or patient... The game can be tedious, slow but rewarding and interesting at the same time... Slow burn game.... But unique and sci-fi interesting. I would give it an 8.5

I was iffy on this game for so long but grabbed it on sale and I’m so glad I finally did. What a fantastic game. I sunk 100 hours into it and got platinum and it was fun the entire time. An original story. Amazing graphics. No frame rates that I could notice. No glitches. Amazing acting. A really really great game.

The game is wonder-filled, beautiful, and haunting. It's not MGS6, although there is more action here than has been described in many reviews or seen on YT. For example, you've probably read the "first 10 hours are a slog and filled with backtracking." Well, I didn't have to backtrack til hour 6 and when I did, it was on a motorcycle and took like 2 minutes. Before that point, I was pulled into an amazing world and game play loop that alternated between top tier storytelling cinematics and tight, compelling game play. Each loop added a bit more to each. Within 3 hours, I had seen and done more crazy things than most games dream of, had heart pounding moments, planned my moves, ran for my life, explored in wonder, and got pulled into the mystery of terms, characters, and visuals Death Stranding offers. Give the game a rental or if you have the disposable income, go with your gut. This isn't No Man's Sky launch part 2. This is a masterpiece in its own right and playing it will be immensely satisfying and emotionally engaging. History will look fondly on Death Stranding after the initial polarization stabilizes.

This game is almost like playing a movie. High quality graphics, famous actors playing the characters, intriguing story. Just started it, but it's one of the most impressive games I've played. Only negative is that some of the menus aren't intuitive. Would be nice to have integrated tutorial for those.
