I was looking for passive soundbar as I already had Denon Receiver and M&K V-1B Miller & Kreisel Powered Subwoofer.
I found SSA-50 is a very nice, attractive solution for all-in-one surround, avoiding the need for multiple speakers in our room.
it’s no different than having five separate speakers, except for the fact that all the speaker wires run to the same place: a heavy-duty bank of binding posts on the back of the Mythos SSA-50.
It must be used with a receiver, as it is not self-powered. Even without a sub-woofer, this surround bar performed good. But I would definitely recommend sub-woofer.
Pros
It reproduces very subtle details in music and sound effects without being harsh or overemphasizing
It produces very convincing surround sound and precise, three-dimensional sound.
Male and Female Voices are crystal clear.
Better low-frequency effects than similar soundbars.
Cons:
Speaker binding posts be placed very close together
Seperate Subwoofer is must

I searched for a quality sound bar that would allow me to use the power and features of my HT receiver to produce great sound... and the Def Tech Mythos SSA-50 is the answer! It delivers a sound stage for movies/sports that defies logic; you'd swear there are more speakers in the room! As for listening to music, you'll enjoy warm tones, clear vocals and a full sonic spectrum that's flush with detail. READ CAREFULLY; this is a non-powered unit. Your HT receiver will need to drive this unit. I have this sound bar connected to a Pioneer Elite SC-LX501 receiver and it's coupled with a Def Tech Supercube 4000 subwoofer. The resulting combination is spectacular!

There are a lot of sound bars on the market. Not many passive though. After much research chose Definitive Technology Mythos. This is a substantial piece of equipment. NO PLASTIC and well built. Although haven't fully experienced true 5 speaker separation the sound is full and rich (with sub woofer). Compliments my equipment and downsized home.

Had to purchase this item in lieu of the fact that I dont have the ability to installs in ceiling surround system. This surround speaker really went above my expectations; it sounds great and it mounts on the TV relatively easily.

I am replacing Defnitive Technology tower speakers, center channel speaker, and surrounds with this sound bar. I can tell there is a drop in performance but is it enough to matter. So far so good!

3rd Party independed Technician did not understand the product. He insisted that it needed to be connected to the TV and not the receiver, It clearly states in the documentation that it needs a receiver to operate.

Due to limitations in the room where my equipment is located, I could not install wires for the surround sound speakers.
As a solution, I went with this sound bar. It sounds great for music and voices. When watching movies, surround sound is not as good as having individuals surround sound speakers.
I recommend this sound bar for those who can not install surround sound speakers. Otherwise, individual speakers should sound better for movies.

I used this Mythos SSA-50 surround speaker for a little more than what def tech probably intended it for, I have a pair of Def tech BP7002 being used with the SSA-50 with a pair of def tech bookshelf speakers that sit behind me for an amazing 9.1 channels of crystal clear sound with plenty of bass to shake my house of its foundation. Instead of just having the SSA-50 standalone like it could be coupled with the rest of the speakers make this an unbelievable experience. The sound comes from everywhere, a total of 33 individual def tech speakers enclosed in these speaker housings create every and any sound you want from the deepest low's to the highest and crispest highs. If you want a real experience don't just leave the SSA-50 alone couple it up with 2 more speakers to create 7.1 or like i did 4 more speakers for a crazy 9.1 that you wont ever regret!!! Thank you definitive for creating theses awesome speakers and thank you best buy for selling them. Get them and you wont regret a thing.

i upgrade my system with this wonderful ssa50
i use to have the 7.1 with jbl speakers (with was awesome)
but the ssa50 do the great job with out the inconvenient to put cable every where in the house.
you do need to add the subwoffer and very good receiver and you all set.
enjoy this amazing song. Olivier.
