Overall a solid subwoofer. But it had amp problems and it was a open box. But I would buy it again.

Great Subwoofer, but Open Box Beware!

This is my first subwoofer, and I paired it with some old speakers: Two Boston Acoustics T830s speaker for Left and Right channel (32" tall with 8" woofers#, One Paradigm CC-100 Center Channel Speaker, and two Mission Leading Edge 700 book shelf speakers #6.5" woofers# for Left and Right rear surround. Everything is connected to a Denon x3100W AVR Receiver. At first I was concerned that the 7.5" driver on the Definitive Technology SC 2000 would not add much more bass then my Boston Acoustics tower speakers. Boy...was I wrong! Incredibly deep and powerful bass that you can feel! I have the subwoofer set to half power...and my equipment is sitting in a room that measures 15' x 12.5' and is open and adjacent to our kitchen. I highly recommend this subwoofer. It is very small, but puts out an incredible amount of bass. One of the best purchases I have made for my audio/video system...ever! However, with respect to Best Buy...beware of their open box policy. The subwoofer I bought was an open box item, so naturally I expected it to be missing the manual or other "accessories". It arrived with NO POWER CHORD! Just the SuperCube unit itself. When I called Best Buy to ask if they could supply a power chord or at least provide me with a gift card of equal value they indicated that this is a common occurrence and that a power chord is considered an "accessory". Really? Wow. Well, lucky for me I had a spare PC power chord that worked just fine with the SuperCube. Best Buy should not accept a return if it's missing a necessary item...I would consider a power chord as "necessary". At the very minimum they should have indicated in the comments that it was missing a power chord, but the comments only indicated that the unit was in "Excellent" condition. For the most part it was...except for missing a power chord! I would have rated this item 5 stars #which the subwoofer deserves#, but I took away a star due to Best Buy's "missing accessory" policy.

    Terrible Service - Unreliable Equipment

I would not recommend this company. I bought one of these Super Cubes in August. Shortly thereafter it stoped working. I called Definitive and they pretty quickly diagnosed my problem as a blown sound board and offered to send a new sound board out for me to install in my unit The board arrived at the pad with no instructions for installation. All of the connectors were pretty straight forward except one. Emailed Definitive for help, their answers were vague and even more confusing and actually kind of condescending. I sent pictures multiple times and asked very specifically where should I connect the RED WIRE. Finally gave up and asked them to the ability to send the unit back for them to fix it. There is a several day to week delay in hearing back from them via email. I bought a REL to replace it and am very happy with it. Still trying to get my SC 2000 working. Very frustrating!!!!

Spent a lot of money on this subwoofer and it lasted two months. Sub is not blown, still works but won’t work with any of my receivers for some reason (I had it tested at an audio store). Highly disappointed. After doing some more research, this is a common problem. Save your money!

definitely not a subwoofer for anything more than a bedroom., if that. cannot even keep up with bookshelf speakers, and distorts anything over half level. obviously we were not expecting this thing to come close to a 10 or 12 inch woofer, but the reviews make you think it would do an adequate job, which it does not

    Great Subwoofer!

I purchased this subwoofer as an open item at my local Best Buy. It is extremely difficult to find higher end audio equipment from Definitive Technology used. After some research, I originally narrowed my options to SVS, HSU, and some lower end Definitive Technology subwoofers (particularly the Powerfield 312 -$199-299 and the Pro Sub 800/1000). My budget was below $600. After emailing Definitive Technology, they pushed me towards the Supercube 2000. Space was not an issue at all (I could have easily fit an 18" subwoofer if I wanted to). I will admit, I was extremely skeptical about the performance specs. I did not think that a 7-1/2" subwoofer with 2 7-1/2" radiators would be able to outperform my Yamaha YST-SW216, or a 12" subwoofer. But, I was definitely wrong! This sub has extremely tight bass, and can get extremely loud/and low if needed. I also liked that it did not distort once, no matter what I threw at it. One of the recent demos I tried, was the Dolby Atmos Amaze Trailer (which is now on Vudu). On the Powerful Bass scene, it got LOW! Now, I did not put the volume knob all the way up...half way was already too loud for me. It complements my Definitive Technology BP8s extremely well. The Yamaha performed extremely well if it is placed in a corner, and if your listening position is right against a wall on the opposite side. Once I moved, the listening position had to moved towards the middle of the room. The dispersion of this subwoofer was MUCH wider, allowing me to have several more "sweet spots" which I also appreciated.

We thank you for your purchase and feedback. The Definitive Technology SuperCube 2000 can reproduce impactful bass for its size. Placement and room acoustics can play a big part in the overall performance. Corner placement will typically result in greater output. Please consider experimenting with the subwoofer in different locations within your room.

Our 12" media room subwoofer had died. I went to Best Buy to find the biggest, baddest, most thunderous subwoofer I could find. When the sales guy, who declares himself an audiophile, told me that needing a large subwoofer was a thing of the past and pointed to this little Def Tech SuperCube, I chuckled. I pointed to some bigger subwoofers & requested sampling. He turned on the same Denon receiver we have in our media room & blasted theatre soundtrack through the speakers. After hearing the bigger subs, he changed it to the SuperCube. I was stunned. It was the best. How could a 7.5" woofer dominate the larger subs? I decided to stop contemplating the laws of physics & demanded Best Buy take my money for the thing. I only buy audio equip on sale. It wasn't on sale, yet I bought it...that's how impressed I was. Movies in our media room sound better thanks to the SuperCube 2000. We've now had it a year...it is still going strong.

Def Tech product are extremely well made and provide exquiste sound quality. I purchase this sub to complete a def tech surround system powered by a Pioneer Elite receiver. It was a very tough decision to make while going back and forth between Energy and B&W but trust me you will not go wrong with Def Tech based upon sound production and price. This sub provides an output that is unparallel to any in its class and will out perform some larger subs. Pushing the sub at high gain levels (past 12 o’clock) for extended periods of time (approx. 2 hours or more) will frequently put the sub in protect mode but I’m sure we can all agree this is a better option then blowing the unit. Def Tech all the way you won’t regret the decision.

We are sorry to hear about the disappointing experience. The SuperCube 2000 has a Signal Sensitive Auto On/Off. Possible solution, try and increase the subwoofer output level on the receiver. This can help prevent the subwoofer from turning off.
