Great Subwoofer, but Open Box Beware!

This is my first subwoofer, and I paired it with some old speakers: Two Boston Acoustics T830s speaker for Left and Right channel (32" tall with 8" woofers#, One Paradigm CC-100 Center Channel Speaker, and two Mission Leading Edge 700 book shelf speakers #6.5" woofers# for Left and Right rear surround. Everything is connected to a Denon x3100W AVR Receiver. At first I was concerned that the 7.5" driver on the Definitive Technology SC 2000 would not add much more bass then my Boston Acoustics tower speakers. Boy...was I wrong! Incredibly deep and powerful bass that you can feel! I have the subwoofer set to half power...and my equipment is sitting in a room that measures 15' x 12.5' and is open and adjacent to our kitchen. I highly recommend this subwoofer. It is very small, but puts out an incredible amount of bass. One of the best purchases I have made for my audio/video system...ever! However, with respect to Best Buy...beware of their open box policy. The subwoofer I bought was an open box item, so naturally I expected it to be missing the manual or other "accessories". It arrived with NO POWER CHORD! Just the SuperCube unit itself. When I called Best Buy to ask if they could supply a power chord or at least provide me with a gift card of equal value they indicated that this is a common occurrence and that a power chord is considered an "accessory". Really? Wow. Well, lucky for me I had a spare PC power chord that worked just fine with the SuperCube. Best Buy should not accept a return if it's missing a necessary item...I would consider a power chord as "necessary". At the very minimum they should have indicated in the comments that it was missing a power chord, but the comments only indicated that the unit was in "Excellent" condition. For the most part it was...except for missing a power chord! I would have rated this item 5 stars #which the subwoofer deserves#, but I took away a star due to Best Buy's "missing accessory" policy.

    Great Subwoofer!

I purchased this subwoofer as an open item at my local Best Buy. It is extremely difficult to find higher end audio equipment from Definitive Technology used. After some research, I originally narrowed my options to SVS, HSU, and some lower end Definitive Technology subwoofers (particularly the Powerfield 312 -$199-299 and the Pro Sub 800/1000). My budget was below $600. After emailing Definitive Technology, they pushed me towards the Supercube 2000. Space was not an issue at all (I could have easily fit an 18" subwoofer if I wanted to). I will admit, I was extremely skeptical about the performance specs. I did not think that a 7-1/2" subwoofer with 2 7-1/2" radiators would be able to outperform my Yamaha YST-SW216, or a 12" subwoofer. But, I was definitely wrong! This sub has extremely tight bass, and can get extremely loud/and low if needed. I also liked that it did not distort once, no matter what I threw at it. One of the recent demos I tried, was the Dolby Atmos Amaze Trailer (which is now on Vudu). On the Powerful Bass scene, it got LOW! Now, I did not put the volume knob all the way up...half way was already too loud for me. It complements my Definitive Technology BP8s extremely well. The Yamaha performed extremely well if it is placed in a corner, and if your listening position is right against a wall on the opposite side. Once I moved, the listening position had to moved towards the middle of the room. The dispersion of this subwoofer was MUCH wider, allowing me to have several more "sweet spots" which I also appreciated.

I went to an audio store about 15 years ago and told them I wanted the best system they had. They sold me 2 Definitive front towers, 2 rear surround speakers, and a center speaker. They told me I did not need a subwoofer because they were in the towers. I was never happy with the sound and would sit longingly in the sound rooms at Fry's and Best Buy with their deep bass and fret that my system was not up to par. This year, I bought a new Denon amp at Best Buy. It made everything crisper but I still missed my bass. After all these years, I decided to add the bass. I went to Best Buy and listened to all the choices for over an hour. I finally made my decision. When I told the rep, he asked what system I already had. When I told him Definitive, he advised against what I had chosen, and said just to go for the best. My father told me to always buy the best and I would never be dissatisfied. It was a couple of hundred $$ more than the one I had chosen, but he said it was worth it. Boy was he right! Once home, the moment the sound kicked in, I realized what I had been missing all these years. It created a whole new depth to the listening experience. Movies come alive. I just listen in awe. Buy the best. Buy this sub.

I purchased this subwoofer to finish off my Def Tech home theater system. I was a bit on the fence since the 9040 towers I have already have excellent imaging and bass, but I'm really happy I got this. With a small room, this super cube is all the extra bass that anyone would ever need, and the compliment it's made to an already excellent sounding system has been pretty dramatic. Movie tracks now sound really punchy, and music is even more natural and balanced. I'm glad I went with the Def Tech sub over others I looked at because the timbre of running an all Def Tech speaker system is consistent, and works together really well. Having said that, I suppose if I had had a different speaker system this sub would probably work equally as well, it's a wonderful sounding speaker. If you are in the market for a sub woofer, and particularly if you own Def Tech speakers like I did, give this one a listen. I think you'll like the difference!

I have a fairly large room 13”x33” I bought the pro cinema 600 on sale about a month ago. The pro sub that comes with that system sounds great and works well with the system. I decided to look into adding another to fill out the bass and bought the supercube 2000 on sale. After hooking it up on its own and setting the bass level to 10 o’clock on the rear dial, this Subwoofer sounds great. It’s very smooth, tight, no matter what you play. I like the sound so much I decided to not use the other pro sub with it. The size is laughable at first look, the fit and finish is nice, though the top of mine had a very small scratch out of the box, but I don’t think it’s worth exchanging over. I highly recommend for anyone looking for good, clean, accurate bass in a compact speaker.

I Purchased this Sub in Feb. 2018 and tested it for nearly a month (28 days exactly). The sub performed really well for movies and general TV watching. I really can't complain about it on that end. However, I returned the sub because I didn't like it for music at all. It's not the clean bass i was looking for. I used my HT for movies about 60% and music about 40% of the time. And as such, i needed a sub that can perform well for both. I tested a Martin Logan Dynamo 700W and immediately returned the Supercube 2000. The ML Dynamo performed much better for music. It does better for movies as well so for me, it was pretty clear which sub i needed to keep. Worth noting, if I didn't use the Supercube 2000 for music, I'd have kept it and returned the Martin Logan, considering that it is cheaper and smaller and handles movies pretty well. I would say i'm impress with how this sub plays movies considering it's size. It can definitely shake my living room. I would recommend to a friend who's looking for a sub for movies only.

Our 12" media room subwoofer had died. I went to Best Buy to find the biggest, baddest, most thunderous subwoofer I could find. When the sales guy, who declares himself an audiophile, told me that needing a large subwoofer was a thing of the past and pointed to this little Def Tech SuperCube, I chuckled. I pointed to some bigger subwoofers & requested sampling. He turned on the same Denon receiver we have in our media room & blasted theatre soundtrack through the speakers. After hearing the bigger subs, he changed it to the SuperCube. I was stunned. It was the best. How could a 7.5" woofer dominate the larger subs? I decided to stop contemplating the laws of physics & demanded Best Buy take my money for the thing. I only buy audio equip on sale. It wasn't on sale, yet I bought it...that's how impressed I was. Movies in our media room sound better thanks to the SuperCube 2000. We've now had it a year...it is still going strong.

I bought this subwoofer for my game room upstairs. All of my 7.1 speakers are definitive technology so i wanted my sub to be the same. I like the size of this sub as it is very small and produces very good bass. I like this sub more than my Polk 505 that I have downstairs. Its more punchy. I would like to get another supercube 2000 and run 2 of them upstairs. I paired my supercube 2000 with the Polk 505 off the same amp and ran dual subs for a little while but i was not impressed as the polk and the supercube dont respond the same so it didnt really sound that good. But Im pretty sure 2x supercubes would sound amazing. Highly recommend this sub but keep in mind i would not probably by this for very large rooms. You would need to step up a size or two for larger rooms.
