CAUTION BEFORE BUY

Day 1, I brought it home and the computer didn't work. I suspect maybe it had been dropped or just a random bad egg. So I exchange it for the same one the next day. About a week goes by until I first noticed the FPS dropping all the way to 10fps. Even if I put the graphical settings on games to low it would still happen. And it would stay that way until I restarted my PC. So apparently it has a problem with throttling and overclocking or whatever. Which can be controlled with MSI afterburner apparently. Though I had to read hours and days of different fixes before I finally turned to afterburner. Which seemed to work for the few hours I tried it. But I noticed my games were stuttering sometimes instead. So I never really seemed to get a smooth gaming experience, which is what I want for this price. Also, BIGGEST reason I am giving this product a 1 star, the customer service is an absolute joke. They said the computer works "as intended" and that I have to pay for "paid software support". So I decided to pay $104 (stupid me) and scheduled my appt. Appt time came and went with no email or phone call, yet my money was taken. Literally have called over 10 times to try and get answers and I just get transferred to someone else who has no idea. I'm literally still waiting a week later. So all this crap I went through with Dell took time, and the 2 week return policy at best buy had past. LUCKILY they still took it back for me and I exchanged it with a different PC. I'm still waiting to get my $104 from Dells "no fix no pay" guarantee. So I guess if you know a lot about how to overclock and manage your software, this computer might be okay for you. But for an average user like me combined with HORRENDOUS customer support I DO NOT RECOMMEND this product. Hopefully I can save someone like me the hassle of buying Dell. Or at least this Dell. 3D Render and gaming machine

So far I have punishing the system with 3D renders, keeping the processor at 100% for up to 48 hours straight, and its still KICKING... No problems or issues that I can see yet. If you are looking for a budget laptop that can do 3D renderings and maybe some VR, this is it...

There aren't too many 17" laptops on the market, so I am glad Dell offers this one. It is fast. I love the backlit keys (which are well spaced also). Nice, crisp screen too. I am not a gamer, so while I don't need the speed, I am glad I have the ability for it, should I ever want it.

This laptop started out really good. Great preformance, great screen, and great value (got it on sale for 1499.99). However, that shine quickly faded once I started using it more. This thing apparently doubles as a personal space heater. THIS GETS HOOOOTTTTTTT!!!! I MEAN REALLY HOTTT!!! In my usage and testing it termal throttle almost everytime i used it. Hitting a min temp (CPU) of 95c and maxing out at 100c!!! This cause horrible performance and horrible frame drops. I tried everything I could short of applying new Thermal paste and still issues. I would recommend saving your money and go for something else. I returned this 2 days later and got the MSI GS66 stealth with the same specs as this (1tb ssd instead of 512gb) and couldnt be any happier with that purchase. Save your time and money and get something else!

If system thermals are of concern, you can prioritize cooling by opening the Alienware Command Center application that came pre-installed with your device and select the 'Cool' thermal profile. Keep in mind that our G7 follows Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance. We fully warrant the product under these conditions. We do recommend contacting us when you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center.

Great rig, but loud

Boots up in seconds. 300MHz refresh ratebis buttery smooth. RTX 2070 is powerful enough for most games on high settings. Mu only knock on this unit is the CPU fan gets loud during gaming.
