Customers are saying

Customers regard the G7 17.3" gaming laptop favorably for its performance, large screen size, and impressive graphics capabilities, with many also praising the high refresh rate and RGB keyboard. However, significant concerns exist regarding overheating and loud fan noise, while some users also mentioned the limited SSD storage and the laptop's considerable weight. The build quality received mixed reviews, with some finding it solid while others did not. Despite some negative feedback, the price point was generally considered reasonable.

not exactly happy about this purchase this laptop seems to have a lot of issues. I play dying light and it struggles which seems to happen to alot of laptops but i limit my fps to around 50 and it will still sometimes get lag and start running horribly also have this issue on biomutant as well. I have another laptop that i got for somewhere around 850 that isn't as recent and has a 1660 ti in it and it out performs this. this laptop looks nice feels nice and overall would be amazing if it could you know let you play games at higher then 60 fps. i got this for 1100 as a open box i expected much better and feel kind a screwed on this purchase. all operations check out and are running correctly without issues according to diagnostics.

Not sure how this one get too many 5 stars and we definitely don't buy this just to play fortnite or freefire? Getting super hot for any normal games, temp reach to 100 and fps simply dissatisfied. 300hz does not make any sense if you never reach it. This thermal issue really matters. Also, did anyone notice the mousepad on little left side on this model which can be irritating for some users? Only pros like this design, RGB keyboard and lightbar. But sorry have to return soon!

      Hello Farhan,

Thank you for your review. If system thermals are of concern, you can prioritize cooling by opening the Alienware Command Center application that came pre-installed with your device and select the 'Cool' thermal profile.

Keep in mind that our G7 follows 10th generation Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance. We fully warrant the product under these conditions. If you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center, please contact Dell support and they would be more than happy to assist.

      Best Regards,
      Anthony P. Dell

This thing is a beast. For the past 2 days I’ve done everything on this from syncing peripherals, playing games and running other apps non stop and it never skipped a beat. I ran all updates including the bios. The Dell software is very easy to use and make sure all drivers are up to date as well. The RGB lighting is fully customizable using the included Alienware software center. There are a few hidden settings in the bios as well so make sure to update that. I plan to upgrade the ram and either add an m.2 or replace the current one. All in all the 17.3” G7 7700 has been great. I will update this if I do run into any blips at all.

For the price I expected way better. The laptop is beautiful honestly and the graphics on screen look great the problem is, the issues started DAY 1. Not even 8 hours of having this laptop and the screen was glitching. I tried to give it a chance because I realllyyyyy wanted to like it. I love the lights and how they change color and the keyboard is very nice. The mouse pad started giving me issues with scrolling and right clicking for some reason. I’d be moving the mouse and it would just stop moving along the page. Chrome wouldn’t work at allll. Last thing I’m disappointed about is the performance when playing. It was over heating just playing SIMS 4. That’s just ridiculous. And the heat would slow down the game. I wish it was worth it and I tried to like it a lot but I ended up trading it in.

Its a good laptop, BUT it does suffer from buggy drivers and Alienware apps. It has a tendency to run hot during gaming, Ive been able to keep it cool using a cooling pad, and using McAfee App boost. If I could do it over again I would purchase a different laptop.

So far so good! I have been able to run Call of Duty Modern Warfare with an average frame rate of 80-90 FPS as long as I’m not running anything else at the same time. It was very easy to upgrade the ssd inside which I did the same day I bought this. I did get rid of some of the random bloat ware that comes on this. Initially the laptop had a bunch of stuff preinstalled such as Norton antivirus that u didn’t want. After setting up my default apps and basically doing a clean install of windows 10 pro - this machine is a beautiful beast.

For someone that moderately enjoys PC gaming without being the most intrigued with all of the deep technical details (I know what I like, I know when it works and when it doesn't) I went into using this laptop without having a long list of expectations based on tech site early reviews...I just went in knowing what my current experience is with the PC I use for gaming and what I would like to see be better than that. Set up was fairly easy and quick. The AlienWare App is excellent for customizing everything just the way you want it. I'm not a huge fan of Dell SupportAssist but for the most part it works. It was also super easy to pair my Xbox controller (something that was a hassle with my previous gaming PC). I immediately tested it out by playing one of my favorite fighting games and was impressed by how smoothly it played without any lagging (something that happened constantly with my more expensive gaming PC sadly). I did however notice how hot it gets. I haven't noticed any effect on frame drop so far but it is something I will keep an eye on. When the cooling fans really kick in it can be a bit loud but it wasn't something that was an annoyance to me...and when using a headset I didn't notice it at all. The speakers absolutely impressed me with amazing sound...especially for laptop speakers with no add on enhancements. I definitely didn't expect that perk. Battery life has been pretty decent for me although to be fair I don't tend to spend endless hours in one sitting purely gaming so what's decent for my needs (gaming and some editing work) may not translate well for someone that will spend hours on end gaming so the statement is completely subjective. The long power cord definitely makes battery life an almost non-issue for most people unless you have a habit of hardcore gaming on the go. The one thing that stands out as a semi negative for me is the "small" 512GB SSD...at least in relation to gaming. It's not a huge deal as most gamers almost always use external options to expand but if you're new to the world of PC gaming and don't already have an external SSD with 1TB or more you might be surprised how quickly 512 GBs can disappear with many games needing 20+ GBs. Overall, I find this to be a great option at a pretty good price point without feeling the need to do a lot of modifications

Better Than Expected From A Gaming Laptop

This Dell G7 is an above average gaming laptop. The combination of impressive specs at this price point is simply amazing! The build quality is much better than I've come to expect from laptops from Dell and their attention to detail is fairly obvious. The screen is outstanding and while it may only be a 1080 panel this just means the Nvidia graphics don't have to work as hard pushing as many pixels when using the built in display, which is a win in my book. So far I've played PUBG and GTA 5 and with both games I'm averaging well above 60fps with a combination of graphics settings both with the built in display and when connected to my desktop 27 inch 4k monitor. The boost key thing really makes a difference in performance. Just be prepared for some loud fan noise when you're using it. They keyboard is fairly decent with an acceptable amount of key travel. It does get a little awkward trying to game with it so I'd recommend going with an external keyboard. The track pad is one of the best I've used on a Windows PC, but not really something usable for gaming purposes. A mouse is the better option there. The laptop is not what I consider to be too heavy for a gaming machine of this caliber. Let's be honest, you don't get a gaming laptop if you're not willing to carry some extra heff. That being said, this one fits comfortably into my backpack which is a win as I travel for work often. Now I can take my games with me! According to the specs there are two SSD slots and my intent is to install a second 2GB MvNE drive just to hold my games and assorted media. Likewise, the 16GB of memory can be easily accessed and upgraded. I've already ordered 32GB to throw in there. It's nice having a Thunderbolt 3 port built int for expandability. Sound from the built in speakers are above average but will not knock your socks off. I keep the RBG strip lights turned off as for me it's not that. big of a deal. I do turn them on when I'm showing this baby off to friends and. co-workers. My one complaint is over heating. Do yourself a favor and get a cool pad to go with this. You'll thank me later. Gaming laptops have come a long way in just the last two years and this one is a fine example of what can be done when a manufacturer pays attention to what gamers want in their machines.

Despite the pandemic I still am required to travel for my job, so I've been looking for something to play Cyberpunk 2077 on while I'm spending weeks in hotels. I didn't want to spend a ton of money, so when I saw this G7 17.3 on sale I grabbed it. Holy smokes, what a beast. Notebookcheck claims that there aren't any laptops that can run Cbrpnk with ultra graphics and ray tracing turned on, but this machine was up to the task. The 300hz screen is a legit 300hz as well, verified by an independent website. If you want a good gaming laptop this is it!
