Dell G7
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop, I've had it well over two years and it still performs well for AAA game titles. The only qualm is it could use more storage space, however, that would sacrifice its light weight and I have utilized a stand-alone SSD without issues.

Powerhouse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I really love the graphics, fast frame rates, wide range of available ports, size of the screen, customization options, design including RGB light on keyboard/bottom, and battery life. Portability, fan noise, and thermals are the only real concern. Otherwise, powerhouse for gaming in this price range. The G7 17.3" by Dell might be a sleeper in the gaming laptop field. In my first week of owning this laptop, I was able to download and play 6 different games from Tomb Raider, to COD, to Forza, etc. My experience with response time and refresh rate was above average from anything I have experienced. At the highest settings for every game that I tried, I was averaging 90 FPS and higher with lower settings getting above 190 FPS if I was on the low settings. The only issues I was getting from a graphic perspective while playing the games was the bleed from the corners and the bottoms of the laptop in dark scenes. It didn't bother me too much because the screen is so big that although it's noticeable, it's not cumbersome. While the graphics are up to par with other laptops in this range, the battery life is impressive. Powering through a two hour gaming session while not plugged in was very passable. The laptop does get very hot in the center of the keyboard but the AWSD keys don't get too hot. The fan noise is loud when on high settings and it would both other people if you were ever traveling with this laptop and wanted to game in a public setting but other than that I was not bothered. The speakers are great. They are loud, they are clear, and they help cover the fan noise. There are plenty of ports available for connections to headphones, external drives if needed, mice, internet, and external displays. There is even an SD card slot for transfer of media if you happen to use SD card maybe with a DSLR. There is also a really neat feature that will turns on the computer when you open it which can be switched off if you are not into that. The RGB lights are a favorite of mine. They really pop and turn an otherwise dull piece of hardware into a work of art. GAME ON!

Excellent bang for the buck
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The performance and graphics are rather impressive for a laptop in this price point. An NVMe SSD is very fast, I only wish it was 1TB instead of 500GB.

Good laptop
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a good laptops, it didn't heat much and the refresh rate was good. If you don't like to pay for the Alienware premium this is a good option.

A great laptop for gaming, when the price is right
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this on an incredible deal, knowing that I was almost immediately upgrading the SSD and memory as I needed more than 512GB of storage and didn't want the lower speed 4k display. I am beyond happy with this, it even runs the Alienware software (that comes with it as Dell makes Alienware). You are literally getting an Alienware for a fraction of the cost. The Max-P version video is the way to go, as it's the full speed unaltered video card, whereas a Max-Q is built for lower temps/being silent. The CPU is excellent for anything thrown at it. Most people will find 16GB more than adequate for anything, however, I've future proofed this and upgraded to 32GB. The only issue to note, is the included NVME SSD (512GB) is a garbage brand that I wouldn't trust to last (and working in IT I've seen many of these off-brands fail); I replaced with a Samsung so that issue is out the door.

It is next level in terms of performance and reliability. It’s really sleek and has a 17.3 in monitor for design and editing my content. Many bells and whistles that far outways the price!

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lightening fast processor with awesome NVidea Graphics. The six core intel I7 processor with the 16 gb of RAM makes for an awesome work machine. Especially when it comes to running 3D model renderings. I love the ambient lighting as well.

Dell G7 ~ Too Hot!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyboard was very squished, and my biggest complaint was that it ran very hot. I bought it specifically for gaming, and within the first couple minutes, it was too hot to touch. Returned it the next day. The rgb keyboard was beautiful, and it ran smooth and fast, but the heat was too much of an issue to look past.

Posted .Hello NotImpressed,
We are sorry to hear that your G7 did not quite meet expectations. We really do appreciate your feedback and will use it to help improve our current and future products. If system thermals are of concern, you can prioritize cooling by opening the Alienware Command Center application that came pre-installed with your device and select the 'Cool' thermal profile. You can view the full article here - https://dell.to/2XAULtU.
Keep in mind that our G7 follows Intel performance design guidelines, which can lead CPU temperatures to reach 100°C to output top in-game performance. We fully warrant the product under these conditions. We do recommend contacting us when you see CPU temperatures rising beyond 100°C on Alienware Command Center.

Mixed feeling!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is powerful but quite noisy and runs very hot. I had to turn off turbo boost and reduce the gpu frequency to avoid frame drops and keep the noise at acceptable level. The heat pipes are close the display hinge. The hinge gets extremely hot to touch; hotter if the default settings are kept. The bracket to add another m.2 ssd is missing and had to do some tedious research on where to get one.

I love the big screen, it’s beautiful especially for gaming. I am still getting used to the keyboard for some reason, maybe it’s just me. It gets hot a bit after a long while of operating.

A REALLY NICE GAMING LAPTOP (INTENTIONAL CAPS)
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop rocks. Gaming on this laptop has been super quick, no lag. Nice laptop-grade RTX 2070 card holds its own in FPSs. Plenty of RAM and SSD storage. I can't really say if the 300Hz display is noticeable, but it's a nice clean display. Includes DisplayPort - able to connect a VR headset without issue for nice VR gaming. The RGBs on the keyboard and at the bottom of the laptop are bright, easy to see. This is NOT a portable laptop by any means. The unit itself weighs plenty, and the power brick is huge (not to mention a second brick to purchase is $$$). Just don't expect to be mobile with this laptop. Fans are noticeable, but aren't too noisy. Just enough cooling management during gaming. During normal work, the system runs pretty cool.
