Customers are saying

Customers regard the G7 17.3" gaming laptop favorably for its performance, large screen size, and impressive graphics capabilities, with many also praising the high refresh rate and RGB keyboard. However, significant concerns exist regarding overheating and loud fan noise, while some users also mentioned the limited SSD storage and the laptop's considerable weight. The build quality received mixed reviews, with some finding it solid while others did not. Despite some negative feedback, the price point was generally considered reasonable.

Powerful laptop!! Very happy. Photoshop and Illustrator opens up in less than 30 seconds. My 4 years laptop with an Icore5 processor would take 2 minutes.

After undervolting, the performance is day and night!! It does not have XMP (for now). Can't wait till my thermal paste/pads and cooling pad comes in. Playing warzone high settings stable 130-150 FPS after -100mhz. Don't get it if you don't want to tinker with it. Must buy if your comfortable opening her up!!!! All in all for me, $1499 it's an excellent laptop!!

Please note first off I have returned this system (returned on Dec 31, 2020). I bought this system Dec. 23, 2020. Pros: The system looks nice. Has RBG if you are into that. Specs are ok for the price. Screen is decent (only 1920x1080 but it is only 2070 max-p so prob should stick at that resolution) Cons. I think the 512GB drive should be a bit bigger for the price. (you can get 1 TB NvME's for around $100 USD now days at a consumer level. 512GB for a "gaming" system is low imo) All the Dell/Alienware bloat software that are only trials and keeps popping up Ad's to buy them or extend the subscription for (drop box, MS office, McAfee). Yes I know most all major brands put this type of stuff on their systems. Sure you can uninstall them or turn off notifications but at first it is rather annoying. Now why I returned it (if you are not a gamer your mileage may vary). The performance was good until it is bad. Let me explain what I mean. Apparently there is a known issue (all over the internet when searched) with thermal throttling. The system will, while playing games, start to throttle its self so much that you will only get 5 - 15 FPS (games played tony hawk pro skater 1+2, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 (yes RDR2 and Cyberpunk have optimization issues)) . The GPU will throttle down to around 300 MHz. There is a physical "button" to put the system into a "boost" mode. This button will put the FPS back a playable frame-rates however it doesn't last long, any where from 1 - 5 minutes before it throttles again. Then if you press the "button" again, turning off the "boost", it will put you back at playable frame-rates (why turning it off boosts the FPS is odd). Then after 1 - 5 minutes the cycle starts again. So basically every 1 - 5 minutes you are pressing this button on the laptop turning off and on the "boost" just for playable FPS. Yes I tried all the different "workarounds" or suggestions that Dell has out there. I turned on performance mode, I set the thermal throttling to performance. None of this worked. I turned off "turbo boost" in BIOS for the CPU, issue persists. The only "fix" I found was a Windows registry edit that allows you to set the MHz for the CPU in the Windows Powerplan settings. I set the CPU to 3500 MHz and bam fixed the problem. However this doesn't stop the next issue. The system runs HOT all the time. At rest 60 C for the CPU and the GPU. When gaming 100C for the CPU the ENTIRE TIME. Sure the rating for the CPU states it can handle 100C but I game ALOT so I would think it would start to break down and cause the CPU to have a shorter lifespan. I know this is a laptop but something seems off. The GPU runs around 90 - 100 C when gaming as well.

Very powerful laptop, but quite loud. The fans run almost constantly as long as it's on with a high-pitched whine. You'll want to use headphones to get the best in-game audio over the fan noise. The fans even kick in occasionally when the laptop is in sleep mode.

I recently got this laptop, as my HP omen 15 with rtx 2060 bricked on me within a week. And I have to say, I am impressed so far. First off, make sure you update bios and all drivers on this laptop otherwise you may have issues with it. Everything about this unit feels better than the Omen I had, and honestly the thermal performance isn't as bad as others are saying either, I'm getting under 90c on the cpu while playing games such as witcher 3 and Red Dead 2. Overall this is a beast for gaming and I highly recommend it.

The gameplay and resolution is amazing exactly what i wanted in a portable gaming laptop. However its does tend to get extremely hot while gaming. Enough to not ever put it on your lap. All that aside i would say with a good cooling pad you will get what you want out of this if its for portable use only.. would NOT recommend for prolonged periods or as a main gaming unit due. Just something to take on trips

This is by far the fastest laptop i Have ever owned. The battery life is great on it and the included charger is massive. I do wish for the pricepoint it had more ram standard. I use this for editing 360 videos. The display is excellent and I dont think I will outgrow the video card anytime in the near future. Overall a super solid buy that will serve my needs for the foreseeable future.

Actually a surprising laptop for the price. I usually have built my PC or purchased a top tier laptop but after selling off most of my gaming PC equipment I was looking for something not too expensive to play New World with my wife. I found this as an open box and don’t regret a thing. Runs the game great, feels generally premium. Screen is phenomenal if you can get over how big it is for a laptop. All in all would recommend
