Very good, budget friendly 2-in-1 laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE GOOD ~ 2-in-1 ~ Touch screen ~ Compact ~ Feels sturdy ~ Resolution (Full HD+ 1920x1200) ~ SSD Drive ~ 1080p camera ~ Key response ~ Budget-friendly ~ USB-C Charging ~ SD Card slot THE BAD ~ Forced to have Microsoft account (Hotmail or outlook email) THE MEH (Could go either way) ~ 2 USB-A ports ~ Only 2 USB-C Ports (1 available if charging) ~ Sound ~ SD Card slot OVERALL I like Dell. I think they generally make solid products. This one is no different. There are some features/specs I didn't mention because if you're buying it, you'll know. Namely, the SSD drive is only 512GB. If you're using this for a school or work laptop or just to travel, that should probably be enough. It is the bare minimum I would consider, but to be honest, I would prefer 1TB. All the same, it is quick and responsive and will probably be enough space for the upcoming school year for most students. It won't be enough space if you are doing massive video files or downloading a lot of games and movies. 16GB RAM. It's DDR5 and for most applications, especially school and work (think Excel, Word, etc), this will be more than sufficient today. I am not sure if it is upgradeable. What this combination means is that it will more than handle the daily tasks of most people USB-A. I am not sure why they included two of them. I think one might be nice, but two seems like a waste when most everything is switching to USB-C. All the same, it does mean you can probably use an older printer and an optical drive if you have them. The sound isn't great. It's loud enough, but despite having ATMOS, it sounds kind of tinny and airy to me. It isn't bad enough that it deserves losing a star, but if you're an audiophile the speakers may disappoint you a little. Even though it only has a 60Mhz refresh rate, the picture quality is pretty good, even during quick changes. The screen is very responsive. Although it is plastic, the laptop is hefty and feels durable. That's a plus. I have some that are so light, I'm afraid a breeze with break them. I haven't tested it, but based on feel and my experience with similar Dell laptops for work, I'm confident you can toss this one in a book bag or computer bag and tote it around campus or the country without worry. And you can enjoy watching movies on it in your downtime. THE BIG QUESTION Would I recommend this to people? Yes, I would. Especially at the current price (discounted), I think it is well worth the money. I wouldn't suggest this one to gamer friends because the specs just aren't there, but anyone else who doesn't need a terabyte of storage, would get a big thumbs-up from me.

A good but not great laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Dell Inspiron 2 in 1 is solid choice for general office computing. It can adeptly handle browsing, office apps, and video conferencing with snappiness. There are a few usability flaws, though, as explained below. PROs - The fingerprint sensor is quick to unlock the laptop. It also serves as the power button. - The keyboard offers enough resistance to keep the keys from feeling too soft. But they don’t sound clickety. The spacing and size of the keys is also comfortable. I really appreciate that the left and right arrows are full size. - FHD+ screen sharpness and colors are excellent. Windows sets the default zoom to 150% which makes it seem cramped and as if it were a lower resolution screen. You should change this right away to 125% or 100% depending on your vision. - Speakers are functional for basic use, Zoom calls etc. - One of the big features of this laptop is that the screen can be flipped backwards to use it like a tablet. It’s a great way to save desk space if you’re watching movies or videos. When using the laptop in flip mode, however, the sound is diminished because it’s projecting from behind the screen. CONs - The biggest usability issue is that the control key on the right side of the keyboard has been replaced by a key to invoke Microsoft Copilot. That means you can’t use a right-hand-only shortcut (control + arrow) to move the cursor to the next/prior word. And you can’t delete the prior word (control + backspace) either with just the right hand. I use these shortcuts all the time but with this laptop, I now have to use my left hand to press the control key. For this alone, I have deducted a star. - The fan runs a bit loud. It also runs often while plugged in and doing simple email and web browsing. - Only two USB-C ports, both on the left side, though there’s a USB-A on both sides. - The camera privacy shutter is nearly impossible to tell if the shutter is closed or not. They should have made the closed side a different color. Overall I still recommend this laptop and give it 3.5 stars.

Great Everyday Student/Home Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great everyday student/home 2 in 1 laptop/tablet powered by a capable Intel Core 5 CPU and integrated Intel graphics. It has a generous 16GB of DDR5 memory, 512GB SSD storage, a 14-inch FHD 1929 x 1200 display, 1080p front facing camera, built-in microphone and backlit keyboard. It includes Windows AI Copilot, helpful for writing and research. And of course, it offers Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, etc.). I've watched streaming videos, movies, You Tube Music videos and had multiple applications open and running. This laptop runs fast and smooth, no buffering or lagging. The display is excellent and although the speakers are decent for a laptop, you'll appreciate its Dolby Atmos Core and Waves MaxxAudio Pro sound much more with a good set of headphones or external speakers. Ports include 1 x HDMI, 2 x USB C 3.2, 2 x USB A 3.2, headphone jack and SD media card reader slot. Connectivity is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth. The chassis (outer case) of this laptop is all aluminum with a kind of satin metallic finish that Dell calls Ice Blue. The keycaps of the backlighted keyboard look and feel durable and the overall build quality of the laptop I would rate as excellent. In sum, this is a perfect laptop for meetings, surfing the web, watching movies/videos, budgeting, writing, students, and light gaming. It will easily handle any tasks or multiple apps the average user would require of it. Also, my personal experience with Dell is that they have outstanding customer service and product support.

Good option for school
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing, the laptop was a nice cool blue color, very nice and sleek design to it making it feel solid and not cheap. Setting up the laptop was very easy. Dell overall is very easy to use and navigate making them a go to for me when looking for a PC and I have always had very nice and easy experience. If you are considering switching from Mac to PC or need a PC for certain applications this would be a a good laptop to consider if it will not be your main laptop. The specs are great for a mid level laptop and good for everyday applications like excel, word and not to heavy intensive productivity. The graphics allows you to connect to 3 monitors without issues and compromise to resolution. I love the touchscreen because it allows me to move and navigate quickly and seamless from laptop to tablet. However I do have to say nothing on the laptop really stuck out to me and it overall felt a little basic and many of the features on this laptop i feel that you can get on any other laptop and i feel that if they want to get more sales they need something unique that will draw people in. However i do feel that while it might not be anything special it is very practical and easy to carry around (a little heavier than I would like for portability) and the display was really high quality resolution and it ran very smoothly. I’d recommend this laptop if you are looking for something that it seamless and easy to navigate and use, for school, work etc. and the touchscreen worked great and it nice how you can even double it as an tablet. Overall, because it has solid specs at this price point, 512 SSD drive and the touch screen I gave it 4 stars. It was a little heavier than I would have liked for a portable laptop for school but it does have good specs, intel 5, 512 GB SSD, 16GB of memory and touchscreen. All good components for a solid laptop that would last for high school or college.

Decent laptop, just be sure to get it on sale
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GOOD - Lots of connectivity ports - 16:10 monitor - Decent display quality BAD - Bloatware - Mediocre CPU performance - Only 512 GB storage ( 450 GB usable ) TLDR This particular Inspiron model is a good choice for basic school or home use, if you can get it on sale around $550. Like many low-budget laptops now, raw CPU performance is sacrificed for a lower thermal envelope and power draw to extend battery life. The inclusion of extra USB ports is great, but over $600, this laptop becomes a much worse bargain. DETAILS Low-budget laptops, particularly those between $500 - $600, can be very hit-and-miss. Some are underpowered, laptop-shaped objects just meant to take advantage of shoppers who don't know better. Dell's lower-cost Inspiron laptops are usually on the other side of that line, offering enough computing performance to do the job without pricing themselves out of the segment. This Inspiron 14 7440 has a typical MSRP around $750, but is often on sale around $550, making it much more attractive. In terms of hardware specs, the 7440 makes a few smart trade-offs to reach the price point, but misses on a few others. The CPU is a Core 5 120U, which offers enough horsepower for your basic web browsing, document creation, and social media sites. Perhaps most importantly, the 7440 has 16 GB of system RAM instead of only 8 GB, allowing better flexibility in tasks and use cases. Storage feels a little skimpy at only 512 GB ( of which, only 450 GB is available ), but it's not unexpected for a lower-cost laptop. The downsides are that the CPU is throttled back due to the thermal and power restrictions of the small laptop chassis. Though it can spin up to 5 GHz in a few very light tasks, any kind of serious processing load drops it down under 2 GHz on most cores. You can override this in the power and cooling options to try and get a little more performance at the cost of loud cooling fans, but there's only so much to be gained. As this is also the base Core CPU and not a Core Ultra, there is no NPU. So if you're someone who wants to use a lot of AI-enhanced software, this probably isn't the laptop for you. It also comes with a fair amount of extra software and bloatware that takes up the limited storage capacity and eats into the available RAM. Out of the box, a steady state after boot usually results in about 8.5 GB of RAM in use. Removing Perhaps the best feature about the laptop is the selection of connectivity ports. A full HDMI port, four USB ports ( two type-A and two type-C ) and an SD card reader are all available, which is very appreciated. The display is a 16:10 ratio, which I much prefer over a 16:9 as the extra height is wonderful for productivity use. However it's a WVA panel and only 60 Hz refresh rate, so don't get your hopes up too much. The rest of the features are pure run-of the mill. The keyboard is backlit, which is nice, but the typing feeling is pretty drab. The speakers are, well, typical low-quality laptop speakers that don't sound that great. The touchpad doesn't feel particularly nice, nor does it have a sharp clicking feel. In a vacuum, this is a handy little laptop. It's still easily portable without being so small to hurt actual desk use. While total computing performance isn't great, it's certainly adequate for most tasks it's meant for. However, the real value to the consumer is determined by the price. If you can find this on sale under $600 ( preferably under $550 ) it becomes a good value laptop for basic needs such as school, home use, maybe some limited home office and work software. But at full price over $700, it's notably overpriced for what you get.

Versatile, all-around laptop, good stylus writing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was surprised at the performance of this 2 in 1 laptop. It is relatively thin and light enough to be a take everywhere, do most things companion. Mobile gaming would be its biggest weakness owing to no discrete graphics card, but light and cozy gaming is still well within reach. The writing with a dell active stylus works well on this laptop as well. Writing works well in tablet mode, all 2 in 1's should work like this with an active pen and tablet mode, it is very intuitive. I used the laptop in Tent Mode for recipes and videos while in the kitchen. I used it in Tablet mode for writing/drawing and handing it around to kids for video calls from relatives. Windows 11 works well on this laptop. The amount of RAM and the GB size of the SSD for storage seems just right for this type/category of laptop, I have no intention of trying to change either out. The charging port works well and the included charger keeps up with all uses of the laptop so far. I would recommend this 2 in 1 for general laptop use and those wishing to dip their toes into active stylus writing or drawing.
