The Dell 7559-5012GRY is a soild laptop. First thing I did was buy an m2 ssd (sata only) and another 8gb stick of ram. The lower panel comes off very easily, one screw and you have complete access. It runs current games on lower settings at 60fps easily. You can turn the settings higher, but I would rather hover around 60fps than have everything maxed. This model is a signature edition and comes with NO bloatware installed, another plus.
The 4k screen is very vibrant, it has a glossy IPS touch panel. (Main reason I chose this, I'm not a fan of the matte screen. Colors look flat and washed out on matte panels) It does not suffer from the traditional backlight bleed many other IPS panels do. It is pitch black.

I use this laptop for quite a few engineering related programs (MATLAB, Mathematica, Vision64, Asylum14) as well as for gaming (WoW, Steam) and it has been great. The graphics card has an NVIDIA program preinstalled that optimizes graphics settings to maintain smooth performance. I have been very happy with all of the programs that I've run; however, there are a couple of minor things that make this a 4 star instead of 5 star.
Most importantly there is something wrong with one of the sound drivers so there is often a faint buzzing noise that doesn't necessarily seem correlated with anything other than having the volume above mute. It only lasts a few seconds each time, but can be very annoying. Along with this, the audio often has pops and crackles much like an old scratched record. This is definitely a software issue since it persists through using headphones or using external speakers.
The next thing is the track pad. Plain and simple, it is not sensitive enough. You can work around the sensitivity by increasing the mouse speed, but it is still annoying that at times it just doesn't recognize your finger motions.
Overall, this is a great laptop that I would recommend, but there are a few issues that should be known before purchasing it.

This 15.6" Dell i7559 laptop machine rocks! I have built over a thousand PC's over the years and still enjoy building my own when needed but laptops are a different animal. In this case, I have to buy one someone else built... Erg!! I searched for months for the very best laptop in this price range with these features: i7 6700 Skylake, GTX960 4GB DDR5, touchscreen and backlit keyboard. RAM is just 8GB but I easily added another 8 with the available and easy to access slot. Getting to the RAM and HDD requires removing just one screw! Seriously...1 friggin screw and the whole laptop is open. I LOVE that! Also, it ships with a 1TB hybrid hard drive which is a good thing (and what I wanted) because many of them come with only a 250GB SSD. With this setup and the available M.2 slot, I put my own 512GB M.2 SSD in and left the 1TB hybrid drive in place for backup, game storage or whatever. I just mirrored the data from the included 1TB drive to the M.2 SSD, then set the laptop to boot to the MUCH MUCH faster M.2 SSD drive. Windows 10 now boots from power off to usable desktop in 10 seconds! This machine now scoots at a very quick pace and I have both big storage AND super fast SSD performance. Combine that with 16GB RAM, i7 6700HQ Processor AND 4GB of DDR5 on the fairly impressive Nvidia GTX960 dedicated gaming/graphics card and, considering the money I spent, I have just about as good a gaming, performance laptop that money can buy! Period. I looked on every conceivable laptop selling website on the planet. Nothing matched this in this price range. Nothing. Not Asus, Acer, Toshiba, HP or any of the less known custom built laptop sites such as Sager, CUK and many others. I looked!! To get this rig to 16GB RAM and add the 512GB SSD boot drive (and keep my 1TB drive internal), cost me under $200, took me about an hour to do and made this machine better, faster and as good for gaming as any laptop with similar specs costing $500-$1000 more than this one. Touchscreen, 6700 Skylake CPU, backlit KB and 960GTX w/ 4GB DDR5 video RAM for a grand is currently only achievable with this Dell machine. It IS a VERY nice laptop and now that I have it, it is clearly a good deal! Aesthetically, it is just ok but that was the absolute lowest priority item for me. With the flat gray color and the shiny black Dell logo, it actually looks pretty sexy yet masculine. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by the rather sleek, premium feel and appearance but it didn't matter much because I was after numbers, pure and simple! If I was focused on pretty, I may have gone another direction. This i7559 laptop is about 1" thick (thin) which not TOO bad at all but is no Asus Zenbook or MacBook but it's NOT too far off. It's sure thinner than laptops of just a few years ago! It is thin enough for me and NOT too heavy like a reviewer complained about. I don't think many reviewers realize what they are getting with this machine, I DO, I looked at just about every option out there! I did not just stumble upon this laptop, I've had my eye on it for a while and as my search dragged out and expanded, I kept winding up back at this Dell and after a couple of months, I concluded that this WAS the best choice for what I wanted and I bought it from old reliable, Best Buy. About the excess weight: All 15.6" laptops with these features are a little weighty but this Dell is just not unacceptably heavy by any means but that is my opinion and everyone seems to have one! It DOES have the beautiful 4K display and boy is it pretty! Like an Apple Retina display but I am mixed on the 4K because some programs don't scale to this ultra high resolution (but most do). What that simply translates to is that programs that are NOT designed with 4K display support are SUPER tiny on the screen, ridiculously tiny...like a number 1 font and a tiny box for its screen when you open the affected program. It's a pain when it occurs but scaling for 4K displays is something Windows 10 is pretty good at and most software vendors have caught up or are catching up. It is possible to reduce the resolution momentarily if needed to increase the size of a non-scaling tiny Window but then you have a new set of issues such as giant icons. Anyhow, 4K is neat, real neat but it does come with its own set of new challenges. On that note, I did also try for all of these specs but without the 4K screen but for some reason, I was unable, in my extensive research, to find a laptop with ALL of my required specs but with just a standard HD screen (not UHD). Strange I know but quite true, I could not find one. My required specs were all of the items I listed and the GTX960 or above dedicated video with 4GB of DDR5, no 2GB and no DDR3 for video. Regarding the display, I've seen some comments on the screen brightness not being good. REALLY?? It looks very bright and very good and I'm used to Apple Retina displays and high end IPS panels. This screen looks marvelous! Not sure where people are coming from on this complaint! You probably don't want to use it outside in bright sunlight but I'm yet to see ANY laptop, PC, MAC or tablet computer of any kind work well in sunlight. That's the only thing I can think of that explains the lack of brightness complaints because my spoiled and fairly fussy eye thinks it is pretty darned good! For the record, I am NOT a Dell fanboy, in fact, I am not a fanboy of any mass produced computers of any kind. As stated, I make my own when I can but that's not so easy with laptops AND I have seen a few unsubstantiated (opinion) subpar reviews of this excellent valued laptop and just wanted to get my full, expert and knowledge backed review in. Also, for the record, I'm aware that this does come with DDR3 system RAM (not the video RAM) as opposed to some machines with newer DDR4 system RAM but since this has dedicated (not shared) 4GB DDR5 for video plus the Intel HD 530 onboard graphics to help drive the 4K display (yes, this thing has 2 actual video cards), I felt DDR3 system RAM was just fine and would not have a noticeable impact and thus far, it has not. Every game I have tried (about 15-20) and most are newest release shooters, runs perfectly fine. Some run better with the settings reduced a bit to improve frame rates but for a laptop it's pretty impressive the way the games look AND run! Sure a 980 or Titan would be better but this is GOOD! It's very good! I'm very happy with this, particularly after my little (big) upgrades! If you want a nice, reasonably (and super easy) upgradable laptop that IS very game and graphic capable, has the current Skylake i7, 4GB 960 DDR5, touchscreen and backlit keyboard, it is unlikely that you will be able to do better than this machine by today's standards. Oh, the battery life! Fairly good but I wasn't buying for best in class battery life. It runs at full steam for a few hours on battery and I suspect I could get a full day of basic use out of it but I just don't measure it or care much. I run it on AC mostly but when I need to go mobile for a few hours, I'm quite comfortable taking this thing out without the charger for a while and it doesn't let me down. Gaming at 4K does use battery, no denying that!

Pros: Fast hybrid drive, even though spins at 5400rpm--but if 1tb ssd comes down in the $200 range, I'll probably upgrade
Gorgeous display. Rich colors
Buy the 8gb ram model and save by upgrading with another 8gb module for less than 30 dollars--easiest memory upgrade I've ever done (one screw for bottom of case). Also a noticeable improvement in speed.
There is a battery power indicator light on the front that goes off while plugged in and if the battery is not charging. I thought it was broke at first and so while reading thru the manual, I found out that that's how it's supposed to work. However, I found out a very cool thing--pressing Fn+H will change the light to act as a hard drive activity indicator instead--so very happy about that I can't tell you how much so--I'm addicted to the activity light.
touch screen responsive (but I think unnecessary in a laptop form factor--rarely use it)
Although I normally use a Zalman laptop cooler, the 7559 seems really cool. And quiet. The only time I've heard the fans really kick in is when using Dell's Diagnostic test tool.
While I am concerned about its durability, the keyboard's pressure/action feels good. I'm still trying to get used to having an actual number pad. The layout of the keys are also pretty much where I want things. I normally have to remap my home/end keys because the are in such unusable locations...but these make sense to me. I love having a backlit kb but I do wish the had a more options than the 3 toggled preset states.
Speakers sound good (though a recent update in drivers makes it sound tinny or loose on cbs.com (but not on hulu). The headphones sound night vs day better than in my toshiba--and they are just a cheapie five dollar pair.
All the ports feel "tight"--I had a problem with my usb ports in the toshiba becoming much looser over the six years I've had it. I think these might last a bit longer. Time will tell!
The overall build feels solid and durable.
Cons: The touchpad is the weakest element of this laptop and is mostly what prevents this from being a 5 star review. It just feels flimsy, and is often non-responsive. The settings for it are also limited (can't set up touch/scoll zones for instance). In the interest of full disclosure, I didn't like the touchpad on my last laptop either, so used a logitech M705 mouse. LOVED it. But I don't want to tie up a usb port, so, went with a logitech anywhere 2 mouse. Works great, but constantly have to re-pair it up with bluetooth--and it's not always easy (have to toggle bluetooth on and off, remove old paired device and re-pair it). If anyone knows how to replace the stock touchpad with a (better) 3rd party one, I would love to know!
While it's not a problem yet, the keyboard looks flimsy--but as of now, it feels okay. I'm just worried about durability. And while it's not a loud kb, it certainly isn't one of the quietest out there... Bad if you are taking notes in class or in a meeting.
Weight--it is heavy but then I knew that going in. However, I didn't know the power brick is also a weighty sidekick. But with the right backpack, that shouldn't be a problem. It was my fault, but I did not notice that the battery is not removable (it's inside the case and screwed in).
Unfortunately, the Battery/HD activity light defaults to Battery light on startup. I can't force it to stay in HD activity indicator mode when booting up.
Other Thoughts: Although I thought having a touch screen would be nice, I have to admit that it's a bit of a pain to use in a laptop form factor. I was actually looking at the ASUS ROG 15.6 laptop instead of this one, but the nontouch screen dissuaded me. If you are still looking, you should compare these two--it might be a better deal if you decide that touch isn't as useful for you in this form factor as you may have thought. I know I could live without it now that I have it. That's not to say I don't want touch--I do, and if I could afford a Surface Pro 4 with these kinds of specs, I would get it in a hard beat for the touch on a tablet experience (would make grading essays much easier and convenient).
While the resolution itself is not a con, Dell has a trick to make text bigger even though you're set at the highest resolution (to keep everything from becoming too tiny). In theory this is to make it easier to read things. Unfortunately, not all windows or screens get embiggened with the software (maybe it's a Windows 10 thing). So for instance, and this is a stupid example, but, the MS Word start screen is like 3/4 of an inch on my display. If it were something I actually needed to read, I would have a hard time. For example, I really had a hard time reading the menu that came up when updating the bios of the hybrid drive--the laptop kept rebooting to it until I finally realized it was a menu and not a message--took me a few tries to find the right option to boot successfully back into Windows. But for the most part, Dell's embiggening of everything works pretty well. I suppose, they do it to maintain the higher resolution for graphics and games. Update: Hulu's website kept playing videos much smaller (unless full screen) in latest version of Firefox. I tried going to Dell support but they suggested it was Firefox. However, when I lowered the screen resolution to 1600x1900, it worked fine (but turned off that Embiggening software). I like it but the screen feels less sharp at that resolution (but again, it's better not to rely on tricks like that--no more problems with program controls being too small to read).
I'm not a much of a gamer but did load Civilization V on it (I know, I know) and it rocked (it was very slow and on lowest res on the toshiba). I do a lot of video editing, though and am excited to try it out--the toshiba was much too weak to properly run camtasia (well, it would run, but editing took forever bc I couldn't do it "real time"--slow-mo and stuttered way too much).
I am currently looking for a backpack and sleeve to fit this beast... I used to use a zeroshock in-bag sleeve (awesome btw), but I'm not sure they have one that will fit the 7559. Not sure about Dell backpacks, but like all of them, it really requires a hands-on test.
Overall, for the specs at this price, and the overall quality of the build, I would probably buy this again. I don't know if there's a cheaper nontouch version, but I suspect if they had one, that's the one I would get.

Easy to setup without Geek Squad but good to know they were available IF needed. I especially like the finger print ID instead of entering a password which works most of the time (about as often as this technology can be expected; such as on the iPhone or about 85% of the time). There are a lot of pre-loaded products that I do not need whatsoever but i do have the capability to remove them from Start-up. I purchased the optional NVidia GeForce GTX but I cannot find any confirmation on the system that it was installed and continue to see Intel graphics card mentioned. Overall the laptop is reliable, somewhat faster than my previous Win7 with Intel graphics/video card but I've only had the laptop about 30-days so I would need more time to see if and how a NVidia GTX is worth the additional money invested.

I bought this laptop and used it for a week before seeing that Dell's next generation of these laptops are coming to Best Buy in February.
During the time I had it, I did enjoy this laptop. It handled the games I played on it decently, but I had to turn the settings down to medium to get good performance for games like Gears of War 4, Watch Dogs 2, and Far Cry 3 since this laptop has a GTX 960m.
Which brings me to why you should wait for the 2017 models. They will have GTX 1050 and 1050 TI graphics cards that have better performance than the 960m, plus Intel's 7th generation of processors (Kaby-Lake), and DDR 4 ram instead of DDR 3. Lastly, they will be roughly the same price as this, starting at $800 for the cheapest model!
If you can get these for $500 or $600 after the new generation comes out, then I say it's worth it. This was a good laptop and I didn't have any issues, with the only reason for me returning it was finding out the 2017 models are right around the corner.
If the prices of this model stay the same, and you're going to spend $800 or more on a laptop, why not go with the newer, better model?
Hope this helps!
