Purchased for my 85 year old grandmother because of touchscreen and SSD. Not used for streaming or gaming. PROS: SSD, two finger scrolling on touchpad, touchscreen, zoom in and out on touchpad, connected to internet fine CONS: Slow to download (Google chrome took 8 mins to download), Right clicking works sporadically. Half the time when right clicking the mouse would open up the link/program instead of displaying the right click options. Extremely irritating, especially when trying to customize the window start menu where right-clicking is repeatedly used. This would be unacceptable for someone who is fairly computer literate. Conclusion: OK laptop for the price. Decided to keep it because my grandmother probably isn't going to right click very often

Good laptop expect to download driver updates.

Just read the reviews about all the crashes and issues occuring with this laptop. I was having the same issues with the driver power state failure and crackling speakers. I manually downloaded the bios and device drivers and installed them and this alleviated my issues, loving this Laptop so far only issue right now is the windows ieee 802.11w standard not being implemented properly on many cisco wireless routers which screw up any windows 10 devices trying to login to a guest network.

    Great Specs, Poor Implementation

The short of it...don't buy this computer. The specifications look really good - 8gb memory, 128gb ssd, touch screen, etc. but it seems like Dell set out to impress on specs but failed to deliver a decent computer. My problems included poor battery life (this processor shouldn't need a fan but Dell clearly didn't engineer this well enough to exclude the fan thus immediately hurting battery life), wifi that kept cutting out and an overall slow performer. I've had Dells at work in the past and they never held up particularly well but I thought I'd give it one more try. I'm disappointed but at least the problems came to the fore in time for me to return this device. Best Buy accepted the return with no problems.

Product OK but DELL Support is a JOKE

Every since buying this computer I've had little problems that I'd bet anyone at DELL could answer but they want money because they said the problems are software problems and I didn't by that service. Now I just bought this computer within a month. It would seem to me that DELL should assist in the set of their computer. Be warned that you might as well NEVER contact DELL for anything.

Excellent Form Factor - Good for what I do

I have a friend that has one and he advised me to get at least 8g of ram, Intel chip and SSD. I really do like this machine with only three exceptions. 1) I start to get some dancing 1 inch bubbles dancing near the task bar from time-to-time (I reboot to cure) 2) Upon coming out of a sleep, I typically get a blue screen saying something about the driver state and 3) I like to keep a couple of extra chargers and they have been hard to find. All-in-all, I like it a lot.

I brought this computer thinking it was the Core I3 one that I had been reviewing on here. Now I see this one posted out of all the times I researched these computers. When I got this computer , the item kept crashing on me. Its said disk drive failure. The geek squad couldnt figure it out and I was like I can get the Core i3 for the same price. I didnt even have this one for a week and I had the insurance. The slate drive crashed and also there was a thing going on with the webpages zooming to like 150 % out of nowhere. that wasnt bad but it was happening. It couldve been a defective unit but for the same price $549 why not get the Core i3.no more drive disk failure now. I ordered new computer on bestbuy.com and it came in less then a week a few days early. Very happy now. I would recommend if you got a good unit but no mine was not doing right at all. It was being difficult.

Awful - won't even keep up typing

I just purchased this computer because I liked the size and functionality. As I am typing this review it is actually taking me multiple attempts. I can't even type my name without pausing or not keeping up with my typing. It's stuttering and missing letters. It's almost like it's thinking as I'm typing and missing half of the letters. I am definitely typing down on the keys to make sure. I just type in "sure" and it missed the entire word because it was thinking. I can't work with a computer that can't keep up with my typing. Typing this right now is driving me insane as I have to keep backspacing or re entering what I thought I typed. This is definitely going back to the store!!!!

Two crashed almost immediately out of the box

    Posted .

Purchased this for my daughter. The first one lasted a week. Then it suddenly would not connect to the internet because it said "no hardware detected for connectivity". Somehow got through that problem. Then twice it did a factory reset on its own, and lost all info saved, including Microsoft Office, which was only good for one download. After getting it all set up again, it started a loop of "windows did not shut down properly" and would give you options to fix it. None of the options to choose worked, and it just continued the same loop. Finally, it started shutting on and off, on its own, only showing the dell symbol. Took it back after only using for a week. Best buy said the hard drive had crashed. Bought a second one, hoping it was just a fluke. Literally had the second one home for 10 minutes, and after doing the initial updates, it said no "hardware can be detected for connectivity", and then started the same loop as the first one. Immediately took it back and swapped it for a Lenovo brand 2-in-1 with an i3 processor for almost the same price. Have had no problems with the Lenovo. Dell obviously has a problem with this particular laptop. Would not recommend.

    Piece of junk constant DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

I got this to use for school. Portable, good for presentations, and what appeared to be decent specifications. It has been nothing but trouble. I get constant Blue Screen of Death (which have a sad cartoon smiley on them now in case you were wondering). The error is always DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. This thing is a complete piece of s*#&. To give context of my computer proficiency: I work in IT as a programmer, have worked with hardware for over a decade and have a computer science degree from an accredited state university in Kansas. So if you still buy one after reading this, its on you.

    Automatic Repair Errors

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After only 24 hours of owning this laptop, an automatic repair error message continued to loop and pop up. The only thing we could do was reset the laptop back to factory settings which I was not happy about since I just spent all evening setting up all my software and files. Reading over the comments, this Automatic Repair error message seems common for this product. DO NOT BUY!

    Going back for second time

Bought this for my daughter and set it up with no issues. Loved it for 30 minutes and then got the BSOD- blue screen of death for a driver error. Kept getting it every few minutes. That should not happen right of the box, so we went to return it. Were told a memo had gone out that morning that this was a known issue, but there was a workaround. We needed to bypass the wireless setup, complete the rest of the set up first and then go back and set up wireless last. Something about windows updates trying to run before the set up. We came home with a new identical machine willing to try it. We did exactly what they said and again after about 1 hour of use...BSOD. This time it locked up, took forever to turn on on top of the BSOD. Not acceptable on a shiny new laptop. It's being switched tomorrow for a different brand/model. Very disappointing. My daughter really wanted this one. I would stay far away.

    Good at everything except charging

    Posted .

Bought this open-box for sub-$300 without a charger. First charger I tried - a 45W HP adapter that came with my HP Stream - would not charge the battery; laptop gave the "AC adapter not recognized" error. Next charger I tried was a Targus universal 90W, and the same thing happened. After some research, I found out that Dell laptops must read some data programmed into an ID chip in the charger in order to recognize it - the center pin of the charger jack goes to the output of this chip. Most aftermarket chargers don't have these chips, because literally every other laptop manufacturer does not build this restriction into their computers like Dell does. And when the chip fails, the charger, while it technically could work on another laptop, is useless for the Dell. Anyway, I ended up buying an aftermarket charger specifically meant for this series of Dell computers. It charged my laptop just fine, until the ID chip failed after only two months. I exchanged the bad charger for a new one, and that one failed after only a couple of weeks. I guess I can't really fault the computer for those two failures, but then I remember that Dell was the one who built the restriction into the laptop in the first place (both chargers worked fine in my old HP Stream even after they failed according to the Dell machine, by the way), and you can find all sorts of instances where the chips inside OEM Dell chargers fail and the computer does not recognize it. (Typically the chip will fail due to the center conductor wire shorting with the 19V+ line somewhere in the DC end of the charger, dumping a high amount of current into the chip and frying it, though I imagine both my chargers failed due to the excessive heat from inside the brick itself cooking the chip.) I mean, the computer itself was a decent enough machine: modestly powerful and lightweight, but unless you could somehow bypass the ID system in the charger and keep the chip from failing prematurely (best thing to do would be to take the chip out of the charger and solder it in line with the power jack on the laptop itself, thereby letting the laptop work with any 4.5mm charger), you would basically have to shell out $20-30 every few months for a new charger when the chips fail, and that's no good for me. (Also, kudos to the Customer Service reps at my local Best Buy for handling this whole situation beautifully - they took back the computer well after the return period ended and let me put the entire sum I paid for it towards a new machine!)

I am a freshman in highschool and was looking for a laptop at an affordable price that would be good for writing essays and whatnot, and I saw this one and was like hey lets give it a try lol. So the first thing I come to notice is that 1. everytime I type and the cursor is by any letters, it will jump in between and start typing in the middle of a word. for example. I would type the sentence "Lets go to the park." and if the cursor was by the word 'the', it would tap in between and the sentence would then look something like "Lets go to thparke", or whatever lol I don't really know how else to explain. Also, the mouse will randomly deactivate!

I wanted to replace a friend's old tiny acer with something that I could use as well, so wanted something that was small but powerful. I wish it were more robust, she and her pets are tough on devices, so the touch screen is cracked and isn't working and I haven't gotten it repaired yet.
